Naruto: Konoha Silver Wolf - Chapter 72
Kakashi observed the sky as it gradually darkened and clouds began to gather. With his knowledge of weather patterns, he knew a thunderstorm was imminent. The changing weather mirrored his turbulent emotions.
Uncertainty flickered in Kakashi’s eyes, but he resolved, “I must go back and finish this mission, no matter what.”
Determined not to retreat in defeat, Kakashi began formulating a strategy. But he knew he couldn’t return immediately—he needed to recover first.
Covering his Sharingan, Kakashi leaned back against a tree and allowed himself to rest and recover.
In Den Village, Kaede’s return caused a stir among the ninjas, who were shocked to see their leader injured.
“Leader, you’re hurt?” one exclaimed in disbelief.
“I’m fine,” Kaede replied dismissively, waving his hand.
“Leader, did you kill the intruder?” asked Rin, a Jonin known for his taijutsu prowess.
“No, he escaped,” Kaede said, his eyes flashing with frustration.
“How could this be…?” the villagers murmured, stunned that their leader couldn’t defeat the intruder.
“Stay vigilant and report any unusual activity immediately,” Kaede ordered, not wanting to dwell on his failure. He then called out, “Yama, come to my office.”
“Yes, Leader!” A young, pockmarked ninja named Yama responded, following Kaede into the office.
“Yama, I have a crucial mission for you,” Kaede said seriously.
“A mission? Is it a C-rank mission?” Yama asked eagerly, as high-ranking missions were rare for them.
“No, this is more important than a B-rank mission. It’s vital for our village’s survival.”
Yama was shocked by the gravity of the task but listened intently.
“I need you to go to the Hidden Cloud Village and request reinforcements,” Kaede said, handing him a scroll.
Yama nodded, understanding the urgency, and quickly left to carry out the mission.
“Hidden Leaf ANBU… It seems our village’s role in gathering intelligence for the Hidden Cloud has been discovered, and now they aim to eliminate us,” Kaede murmured, feeling a mix of anger and fear.
Returning to the village, Kaede pondered why the Leaf ANBU would come alone. He couldn’t afford to take chances and sought aid from the Hidden Cloud Village to protect Den Village.
“We must hold out until the Cloud reinforcements arrive,” Kaede thought firmly, as he sought medical treatment for his wounds.
After some time, an urgent voice interrupted Kaede’s rest.
“Leader, we have intruders!”
Kaede immediately stood up and vanished, reappearing in a corner of the village where several villagers lay dead in pools of blood, but there was no sign of the enemy.
“Where are they?” Kaede demanded, his face darkening.
Thunder rumbled ominously in the sky, adding to the grim atmosphere.
“They escaped. I didn’t see them when I arrived,” Rin said, his face also dark with anger.
“Damn it,” Kaede cursed, unable to detect the enemy’s presence, realising they might have hidden or left the village.
“Coward, wasting our energy,” Kaede muttered, recognising the enemy’s tactic of trying to provoke them into spreading thin for easier targeting.
“Leader, let’s spread out and search for them,” Rin suggested.
“Alright, everyone spread out. If you find the enemy, signal immediately,” Kaede agreed, a sly smile on his lips. He believed his speed would ensure no enemy could escape.
“And remember, don’t engage. Just hold them off until I arrive,” Kaede instructed.
“Yes, Leader!” the ninjas replied, dispersing to search the area.
Kaede remained still, closing his eyes to sense the wind’s movements around him. By concentrating, he expanded his awareness beyond the village, hoping to detect any disturbances.
Kaede’s subordinates spread out, forcing any hidden enemies to reveal themselves. The moment they moved, Kaede would be ready to strike.
