- Chapter 19 - In Times of Chaos, the Saint Must Die First!
“It has begun!”
Shisui Uchiha’s smile was warm, almost surreal, like a snowflake drifting in the gentle spring breeze, but its underlying coldness was deeply chilling.
There’s no choice!
You must die for me to feel at ease!
Smiling warmly at the still, somewhat dazed Shisui on the platform, Shisui’s killing intent surged.
Yes.
Though Shisui had temporarily deceived the politically naïve Shisui with clever words, these tricks would eventually be undone with Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzo Shimura guiding him. The Damocles sword of Kotoamatsukami would inevitably hang over Shisui’s head again.
Before that sword falls, Shisui must seize the opportunity to muddy the waters.
The tense atmosphere, the eager Uchiha clan, and the grand tournament with an unknown purpose—all these tactics, while not sophisticated, were enough to temporarily hinder the Hokage faction.
During this time, Shisui further enhanced the clan’s strength and power.
Most importantly…
To bring the Reaper’s proclamation early!
Shisui subtly nodded at Uchiha Munakata on the platform, suppressing his killing intent.
Shisui Uchiha observed the middle-aged man before him, sensing a hidden hostility, and quickly recalled all the information about him.
Uchiha Munakata!
An elite Jonin active during the early Third Shinobi World War, renowned for his combined use of ninja tools and Fire Release, known as the Flame Demon in the Mist Village.
Unfortunately, the Hozuki and Kaguya clans seriously injured Munakata in a large-scale battle with the Mist Village.
Although he barely survived, the internal injuries forced Munakata into semi-retirement, dedicating himself to training his son after the war ended.
But… Munakata’s son?
Shisui felt something was amiss but had no time to ponder as Munakata launched his attack.
“Fire Release: Great Fire Annihilation!”
A massive sea of flames surged from Munakata’s mouth, overwhelming the small figure of Shisui as if to burn the entire world.
Witnessing the sheer precision of Munakata’s Fire Release, even Shisui had to acknowledge the terrifying power of the Flame Demon.
But… we’re not on the same path!
Flames swallowed Shisui’s figure, but no one was worried. The “Shisui of the Body Flicker” was not just a name.
Sure enough!
Seven or eight afterimages appeared simultaneously on the platform, ideally avoiding the flames and charging at Munakata with long swords.
The opponent didn’t form the seal of confrontation, indicating this wasn’t a simple training match!
Shisui realized that Munakata genuinely intended to kill him.
Faced with a veteran of the Shinobi World War, Shisui dared not be careless, even without revealing his Mangekyo.
Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire!
Six kunai, surrounded by small fireballs, sealed off Munakata’s escape routes like dragon claws.
“Naive!”
Munakata’s eyes grew colder, and his raised sword ignited with intense flames. Unlike the previous high temperatures, these flames emitted a blinding light, dispelling the shadows on the ground.
Uchiha Style: Firefly Light!
But Shisui, a master of the Uchiha sword style, combined a Body Flicker with a “Sword Flame Dance” to close in.
Such precise chakra control and masterful Uchiha swordsmanship drew genuine admiration from Munakata.
If this were a mentor guiding a student, Munakata wouldn’t hesitate to share his knowledge, but recalling Shisui’s Anbu identity…
Ninja Art: Shuriken Manipulation!
Uchiha Style: Solar Halo Dance!
Uchiha Style: Flash Cut!
Holding nothing back, the Flame Demon, renowned for the Third Shinobi World War, was fully revived on the platform!
However…
Shisui, seemingly in danger moments ago, suddenly changed. Navigating through the dense sword net with ease, his short kunai aimed directly at Munakata’s forehead.
“Such a disappointing legacy!”
Coldly observing the shift in battle, Shisui, below the platform, sneered.
Even against a real threat, Shisui held back.
Holding back comes at a cost in such high-stakes combat. If this intense exchange continues, the outcome is predictable.
Shisui would win with severe injuries, and Munakata would be critically wounded or killed!
Caring about so-called kinship, fearing the clan’s elders, and worrying about the Hokage faction’s stance…
Even if it meant severe injuries, Shisui seemed unwilling to kill his opponent, hoping the elders on the dais would intervene.
Truly a saint!
Just as Shisui anticipated, Uchiha Sasuke and Fugaku stood up to intervene.
But!
As Sasuke and Fugaku moved to stop the match, Munakata on the platform and Shisui below revealed sinister smiles.
“Did you know?”
Munakata struggled to fend off the fiery attacks, but his gaze penetrated the sparks, locking onto Shisui’s red eyes. He spoke in a barely audible voice.
“In times of chaos, the saint must die first. You really deserve to die!”
At some point, Munakata’s sword was covered in strange flame patterns. With his final words, it erupted with blinding light, its intense heat engulfing the entire platform.
Boom!
