Chapter 107: The Laziest Hokage In History!
Today was destined to be a hectic day for Chiba. After the meeting, he dived into the task of condensing placer gold. But there was a problem. He had boasted a bit too much, and now he had to hold back his tears.
Meanwhile, the villagers were still busy collecting gold, and the census data for all ethnic groups had been compiled.
When faced with the overwhelming demand, Chiba decided to prioritize the Uchiha clan.
Before long, amid the envy and jealousy of the other clans, the Uchiha clan was left with sacks of gold on their backs.
Next in line was the Hyuga clan.
The two major clans reaped significant rewards, while the rest queued up anxiously, not wanting to be left behind.
Need to use the restroom? Be quick about it. If you hesitate, your spot will be taken. As a result, they held off from noon until evening.
Finally, after seeing off all the families, Chiba slumped into a chair, not wanting to move.
“My hands are swollen…”
“Am I as swollen as you?”
“Master Hokage seems to have forgotten something…”
“Hmm~~”
A group of Anbu were exhausted and eagerly anticipated some rest. Their hands, used to mold the gold bars, were swollen, and now they could finally take a break.
But in the next moment, Chiba sprang up from the chair.
Gold dust!
Activating his mimicry ability for the umpteenth time, Chiba swiftly condensed a massive amount of gold dust.
Blindly shaping it, he transformed the placer gold into a large, pockmarked golden sphere.
Duang!
The golden ball fell to the ground and rolled in front of Hatake Sakumo.
“Check it out.”
Leaving these words behind, Chiba immediately vanished. Strolling out of the Hokage building, he realized his stomach was empty.
“This Hokage life is really something…”
Grumbling, Chiba made his way to a nearby barbecue shop.
“Good evening, Hokage-sama!”
“Hokage-sama, your attire looks really cool.”
“Hokage-sama, shall we play with Ollie together?”
“Hokage-sama, your smell is gone.”
As he walked through the streets, many villagers greeted him with great enthusiasm. It filled Chiba with a sense of accomplishment.
With a smile plastered on his face, he nodded to the villagers frequently, which eventually caused his neck to ache. Upon reaching the entrance of the barbecue shop, Chiba’s footsteps abruptly halted.
“Huh?”
Taking a couple of steps back, Chiba looked up at the billboard of the barbecue restaurant. To his surprise, he saw a portrait of himself on the billboard, holding a skewer of barbecue.
“This owner sure knows how to use my image!”
Chiba couldn’t help but admire the marketing skills of the barbecue shop owner.
After all, in the portrait, he was holding a barbecue skewer, not a lump of Ollie. It was promoting his positive image, which he greatly appreciated. After savoring a hearty barbecue meal, Chiba headed back to the secluded mountain.
He was so tired that he needed a nap.
The next day…
In a daze, Chiba felt himself being carried on someone’s back. Indeed, he was being carried on someone’s back.
When he finally opened his eyes, he saw Hatake Sakumo hurrying towards the Hokage building with him on his back.
“Where’s my bed?”
Chiba’s head was spinning, and he wasn’t in a good mood. Hadn’t he just woken up? Why was he being put to work already?
“Master Hokage! It’s almost noon, and I’ve been trying to wake you up for hours!”
Hatake Sakumo’s tone was anxious, and it was clear he had exhausted all other options.
He had been trying to wake Chiba up since morning, shouting for hours. Furthermore, due to the previous day’s succession ceremony, the pile of documents in the office had grown quite high, and all of them needed to be processed.
Carried all the way to the Hokage’s office by Hatake Sakumo, Chiba was placed in a chair.
“Master Hokage! You need to attend to these documents!”
“I’ll go get breakfast for you.”
Hatake Sakumo wiped his sweat as he spoke. After saying that, he promptly disappeared.
As soon as Hatake Sakumo left, Chiba’s eyelids began to droop again, and he started to doze off with his head resting on the table.
Chiba had expended a great deal of chakra the previous day, and he needed the rest. When Hatake Sakumo returned with breakfast, he was taken aback.
“This… What do I do now?” he wondered.
He couldn’t wake Chiba up again, could he?
Hatake Sakumo knew very well that even if he did wake Chiba up, he would probably fall asleep again as soon as he turned his back.
In the end, he decided to leave Chiba. Noon came, and Chiba finally woke up. He was roused from his slumber once again by Hatake Sakumo.
“Master Hokage! There was a street fight between Hyuga Hiashi and Uchiha Fugaku!”
Rubbing his eyes, Chiba responded with a sleepy, “Oh.”
He reached for the boxed lunch on the table and began to eat. Hatake Sakumo looked consternated.
“Master Hokage! The two of them fought over the title of ‘the strongest family in the village,’ and it had a significant impact!”
“Then what do you suggest we do?”
Chewing his food, Chiba asked nonchalantly.
“I think they should be immediately detained to prevent the situation from escalating.”
“Very well! Let’s go!”
With an approving nod, Chiba waved his hand. Hatake Sakumo was taken aback.
Did he hear that correctly? Did Chiba want him to handle this personally?
With a prompting gesture, Chiba grew impatient.
As the Fourth Hokage, wasn’t it reasonable for him to accept his subordinates’ recommendations?
Before long, Hyuga Hiashi and Uchiha Fugaku were apprehended by Anbu. Their offense? Inciting public disturbance and jeopardizing the village’s stability.
This incident had a significant impact, and both clans had been notified promptly. Their respective clan leaders hurried to Hokage’s office.
“Hey…”
In his office, Chiba sighed and stared blankly at the thick stack of documents.
How was he supposed to handle all of these?
He idly flipped open one of the files, and it turned out to be about the ninja school’s graduation ceremony. As Hokage, he was expected to deliver an inspirational speech to these students.
“Isn’t this ironic? I never even attended ninja school myself.”
Chiba couldn’t help but grumble.
Even though he had become Hokage, Chiba had yet to achieve the rank of Genin.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Suddenly, hurried footsteps echoed in the corridor. A short while later, the leaders of the Hyuga and Uchiha clans entered together.
“Master Hokage!”
The two appeared visibly anxious and spoke with great respect. They had come regarding their sons.
Chiba, who had been fretting over the documents, lit up immediately upon seeing them. With a broad smile, he approached the two clan leaders.
“You’ve arrived at just the right time!”
“Here, these documents are now in your hands!”
“If you can’t finish them, you can sleep in the wrestling arena tonight!”
With that, Chiba marched away.
Duang!
He slammed the office door shut, leaving the two clan leaders with wide eyes.
