Chapter 65: Konoha’s Task Of Catching Pigs
Jiraiya scrolled through all the mission scrolls but didn’t find any other quests.
On the entire scroll, aside from the dung collection, the only tasks were about catching wild boars.
“Sensei, did you pick up the wrong scroll?” Jiraiya asked, bewildered, wondering if his teacher had made a mistake.
Sarutobi Hiruzen smiled confidently and replied, “Nope.”
As the Hokage, he couldn’t possibly have made a mistake.
“But why are there only these tasks here?”
“This is related to the future development of our village, but it cannot be disclosed to the public for now,” Sarutobi Hiruzen explained, still smiling with a mysterious air.
“Sensei, are we only supposed to catch wild boars?” Orochimaru asked, breaking the silence.
He certainly didn’t want to pick up dung, so catching wild boars seemed to be the only viable option.
Sarutobi Hiruzen pondered for a moment and said, “Well, as long as it’s a docile animal, it can be considered. But it should be large in size.”
He thought it might be reasonable to expand the category of animals. After all, many ninjas had taken on the task of catching wild boars, so it wouldn’t hurt to broaden the selection criteria.
Eventually, the Orochimaru team chose the S-rank mission – to capture 50 large, docile animals.
They exited the Hokage building.
Jiraiya had a constipated expression on his face, mirroring the expression of many other ninjas who had taken on similar missions before.
Tsunade was equally disappointed. As a female ninja, she didn’t expect to be tasked with catching pigs.
Fortunately, the team hadn’t chosen the dung collection mission.
Orochimaru, however, was lost in thought, seemingly contemplating something.
“Orochimaru, you’re the smartest among us. Tell us, why did Sensei assign these two tasks?” Tsunade asked, seeking Orochimaru’s insight.
Jiraiya, on the side, grunted dissatisfiedly and perked up his ears, eager to hear the explanation.
“I believe it might have something to do with Chiba,” Orochimaru began, a smile playing on his lips.
“Chiba?” Jiraiya and Tsunade questioned simultaneously, not understanding the connection.
Orochimaru continued, “There’s one common factor between these two tasks: feces.”
He paused for a moment.
“Feces? Chiba’s Shit Technique?” Jiraiya and Tsunade suddenly realized although they didn’t fully grasp the implications.
“Sensei changed all the tasks to these two. Could it be that Chiba can use excrement to bring significant benefits to the village?”
“Can he convert feces into food?” Tsunade speculated her guess hitting close to reality. When it came out of Jiraiya’s mouth, he immediately thought of energy conversion, turning dung into food.
The three of them proceeded on their way and entered the Dead Forest.
If there were plenty of wild boars near the village, they would surely be found in the Dead Forest.
As they ventured deeper into the forest, their pace quickened.
However, the deeper they went, the more disheartened Orochimaru and his team felt.
“Shadow Binding!”
“Heart-Turning Technique!”
“Partial Doubling!”
Ninjas from the Nara clan were catching pigs using shadow manipulation techniques.
As soon as the shadow manipulation was employed, the wild boars obediently walked toward the Nara clan members.
The Yamanaka clan utilized the Mind Body Switch Technique to control the spirits of the wild boars, making them happily jump into their embrace.
The Akimichi clan members used Partial Doubling techniques to directly scoop up a group of wild boars. By the time the Orochimaru team arrived, the nearby wild boars had already been captured.
The ninjas from the three clans looked at the empty-handed Orochimaru team and smiled friendly smiles.
“Let’s keep going,” Orochimaru urged, and they continued their journey.
Ninjas seemed to be everywhere.
Some were using strings, others ropes, and there was even a team that had set up a massive net and pushed it forward.
“Damn it!” Jiraiya couldn’t help but curse as he stood there dumbfounded, as did everyone else.
“If this continues, what are we going to catch?” Tsunade wondered aloud, also at a loss.
“Let’s move on,” Orochimaru said, resigned to their situation.
He had no other choice but to search for a different area.
Orochimaru initially thought that only his team could catch other types of animals, but now he realized that everyone else could do the same.
This was proving to be a challenge. The three of them continued walking and walking. As darkness approached, they finally spotted a black bear.
“Is this considered a docile animal?”
“It should be.”
“Let’s catch it first, and then we’ll discuss.”
They had been empty-handed for far too long, so they couldn’t afford to be too picky about temperament.
They swiftly charged forward, ready to shed blood for the first time that day.
Boom!!!
Suddenly, the black bear turned into smoke, revealing a ninja underneath.
Orochimaru: “…”
Tsunade: “…”
Jiraiya: “…”
Certain ninja: “???”
