Chapter 87 Suspicion Deepens, The Popular Chiba
Hokage’s office.
Sarutobi Hiruzen frowned as he looked at the detailed information about Chiba on the scroll. The scroll contained records of Chiba’s growth from childhood to adulthood.
“Both parents died when he was three, he refused to go to the orphanage and grew up picking up trash alone…” Sarutobi Hiruzen read the first line and concluded that Chiba had no connection to him. He knew that if Chiba were to lose control, it would bring a huge crisis to the village.
Bark!
Throwing the scroll on the table, Sarutobi Hiruzen stared deeply, taking a deep breath before picking up the scroll again. He skipped the content in the middle and his eyes fell on two names: Mito Fujiki and Aburame Shizuka.
“Fujiki is Homura’s son,” he murmured. “And Aburame Shizuka, was she sent to Chiba by Danzo in the first place?”
Seeing this news, Sarutobi Hiruzen’s heart skipped a beat. It seemed that Chiba had been in contact with Danzo for a long time. He recalled the previous meeting where Danzo remained silent for a long time before choosing to support him. Sarutobi Hiruzen now suspected that Danzo had some private deal with Chiba.
“Not just Danzo, but Homura too!” he realized. “His son was saved by Chiba three times, which is also problematic.”
The thought of Mitokado Homura openly opposing him at the meeting made Sarutobi Hiruzen feel extinguished. Suddenly, footsteps could be heard outside the door. Sarutobi Hiruzen closed the scroll and tried to regain his composure.
“Master Hokage!”
“What’s the matter?”
“An accident occurred with the Orochimaru team.”
“What?” Sarutobi Hiruzen was shocked upon hearing the report from the Anbu. He had sent the Orochimaru team to monitor Chiba, so why did it take so long for something to happen?
“Who attacked them?”
“No one, they…have diarrhea…”
The Anbu seemed a little embarrassed as they revealed the truth.
“Diarrhea?” Sarutobi Hiruzen froze.
After a moment, he understood. Previously, Hatake Sakumo reported the situation at the frontline, including the incident of the Third Kazekage having diarrhea. It now appeared that Chiba was responsible for Orochimaru’s diarrhea.
The three members of Team Hiruzen were his disciples. Did Chiba have no scruples?
“It’s gotten out of control now…” Sarutobi Hiruzen squinted his eyes, his thoughts shifting. Chiba, on the other hand, was unaware of the chaos caused by his ability.
As he walked down the street, many ninjas greeted him, most of whom he didn’t know. When he arrived at the barbecue shop, something even stranger happened.
“Chiba, what a coincidence!”
Hyuga Hiashi appeared out of nowhere and sat next to Chiba.
“Boss put Chiba’s barbecue on my tab,” he called out to the boss, staring at Chiba with enthusiasm.
Chiba was puzzled. He had already paid the boss for a year’s worth of barbecue, so why was someone else paying for him? And why was this person scrutinizing him so intently?
“Ahem, do you have something to ask me?” Chiba spoke, sensing that something was amiss.
He felt like he understood what was going on, but if that were the case, why was the other person so enthusiastic?
Facing Chiba’s question, Hyuga Hiashi scratched his head and nodded.
“Speak up! What’s the matter? But let me make it clear, I can’t help you with anything! Go ahead and talk.”
Hyuga Hiashi was taken aback. He had intended to speak, but Chiba’s words caught him off guard.
“I actually want to be your friend.”
“What?” Chiba was surprised. It turned out they wanted to be friends with him after all. He had misunderstood!
“Okay.” Chiba smiled brightly.
“Senior Chiba, what a coincidence!” Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out.
“Huh?” Why did they address him as “senior”?
Chiba and Hiashi turned their heads simultaneously and saw Uchiha Fugaku sitting down beside them.
“Are you… Uchiha Fugaku?” Chiba questioned, a little uncertain. He wasn’t very familiar with the other person, as they had only met once while collecting manure.
“Senior Chiba, when you visited the clan last time, you were wearing a mask, so I didn’t recognize you,” Uchiha Fugaku explained sincerely.
Chiba couldn’t quite comprehend the situation. First Hiashi, now Fugaku. It seemed like he had suddenly become popular.
“I wanted to ask, what’s going on with the two of you?”
“Don’t you know, senior?”
“I don’t know anything!”
Uchiha Fugaku and Hyuga Hiashi were confused by Chiba’s response.
“Forget about it, what about you two?”
“Senior, you single-handedly defeated the entire Sand Shinobi army on the front line, even making the Third Kazekage surrender on the spot. Everyone in the village knows about it.”
“Yeah, Chiba, don’t hide it, I know you’re strong!”
The two spoke in an excited tone, with a hint of awe.
Chiba remained silent.
He finally understood. It seemed that his great deeds had been exposed after a long time. In reality, there was no way to conceal such matters.
Hatake Sakumo had brought back some frontline ninjas who had spread the story. Not only did they spread it, but they even exaggerated it, severely tarnishing the reputation of the Third Kazekage.
