Chapter 88: The Prelude To The Assassination Of Chiba
In the Yakiniku Restaurant, Hyuga Hiashi and Uchiha Fugaku praised Chiba repeatedly, making him so happy that he forgot to eat the yakiniku.
“Senior Chiba, the Third Kazekage, known as the strongest Kazekage in history, was defeated with just one move by you. I also heard that the entire Sand Shinobi force was wiped out, with thousands of Sand Shinobi being washed into the canyon.”
“Senior Chiba is incredibly strong!”
“Among our peers, no one can surpass you. I, Hyuga Hiashi, have always regarded you as the strongest.”
Uchiha Fugaku praised Chiba’s heroic appearance, and Hyuga Hiashi expressed his utmost admiration. However, Chiba couldn’t shake off a sense of familiarity with their words.
Even as Chiba walked out of the barbecue restaurant, the words of the two continued to echo in his ears.
“What sincere people! I’m glad to have made these two friends.”
Turning around and waving goodbye to them, Chiba reluctantly parted ways. Carrying the packed barbecue, he made his way to the back mountain.
This was the barbecue he packed for Shizuka. After all, people have to eat, and he had to return to the cabin once more. Walking down the street, Chiba received friendly glances and greetings from ninjas, which brought him great joy.
“Senior Chiba!”
As he reached the back mountain, a voice called out to him. Chiba turned around and saw Fujiki.
“Aren’t you tired?” Fujiki asked.
“Yes,” Chiba replied, a little embarrassed.
Since being detoxified by Chiba last time, Fujiki had been in a weakened state, and he had only just recovered.
“Senior, how is your farm doing?” Fujiki inquired.
“It’s…hard to say,” Chiba sighed, and the two of them walked together towards the back mountain.
In the cabin, Aburame Shizuka was enjoying the barbecue while Chiba and Fujiki sat beside her. Suddenly, Shizuka seemed to remember something.
“Oh, by the way, Chiba, I found Tsunade lying on the road this morning…”
Shizuka spoke with a strange expression on her face. She had intended to go to the village to find Chiba, but along the way, she saw three people lying on the ground, which frightened her, causing her to quickly run back.
“Oh, they must be tired. You can continue eating,” Chiba quickly found an excuse to brush off the topic.
After he finished speaking, Chiba was taken aback. He looked at Shizuka, then at Fujiki.
“That’s right! If even Tsunade and the others form a team of three, why can’t we?”
The more he thought about it, the more feasible it seemed to Chiba. So, he proposed his idea.
“Let’s form a team of three!” He announced it aloud.
Shizuka nodded in agreement, but Fujiki shook his head. Chiba couldn’t understand Fujiki’s refusal.
“Fujiki, aren’t we friends?” Chiba asked, puzzled.
Fujiki nodded in response.
“Then let’s form a team of three,” Chiba suggested again.
But Fujiki shook his head once more. This time, Chiba was completely perplexed. Now, Fujiki seemed to be in discomfort, looking back and forth between Chiba and Shizumi.
“One of you uses manure, and the other uses insects. I don’t want to be on a team with you,” Fujiki finally explained.
Chiba: “…”
Shizuka: “…”
Chiba felt that Fujiki was discriminating against him. So, he tried to persuade him in a friendly manner.
“It’s been a long time since my detoxification technique has been effective, Fujiki. What do you think?” Chiba raised his hand, showcasing his skills.
Fujiki replied, “Don’t move! I believe you, but the three of us can’t form a team. “According to the village regulations, the minimum requirement for forming a team is to be a Genin, and you don’t have a ninja forehead protector.”
Upon hearing Fujiki’s explanation, Shizuka suddenly realized, while Chiba remained puzzled.
“Fujiki is right. Although you are strong, you are not officially recognized as a ninja.”
“Just wait!” Chiba was not convinced and left in a hurry.
In the Hokage’s office, a flame appeared in Sarutobi Hiruzen’s hand, burning the scroll containing Chiba’s information.
Duang!
The office door suddenly opened.
“Who?!” Sarutobi Hiruzen was startled by the sudden sound.
He quickly kicked half of the scroll to the floor.
“Chiba?”
Seeing that it was Chiba, Sarutobi Hiruzen’s heart skipped a beat.
“Ahem, Lord Hokage, I apologize for barging in without knocking,” Chiba said apologetically.
He had been in such a rush that he forgot basic etiquette.
“Are you busy?” Chiba asked.
“I want to become a ninja!” Chiba spoke sincerely and truthfully.
“A ninja? Is that why you rushed in?” Sarutobi Hiruzen asked.
“Of course! Only as a ninja can I form a team,” Chiba replied.
Upon hearing Chiba’s intention to form a team, Sarutobi Hiruzen became more cautious.
“With whom do you plan to form a team?” Sarutobi Hiruzen inquired.
“Shizuka and Fujiki,” Chiba answered.
Silence fell in the room. Sarutobi Hiruzen remained silent.
“It seems you’re starting to build your own forces,” Sarutobi Hiruzen said with a sense of unease.
In his eyes, Aburame Shizuka represented Danzo, and Mito Fujiki represented Homura Mitokado. If Chiba succeeded in forming his team, it would mean that the two high-ranking leaders had gained another member.
In that case, he, as the Hokage, would be left with a weakened position. Sarutobi Hiruzen began to feel conflicted.
“To form a team, the minimum requirement is to be a Genin. However, you haven’t attended the ninja school, so according to the regulations, you cannot become a ninja,” Sarutobi Hiruzen explained.
Chiba was dumbfounded. What kind of rule was that?
“But that’s not right. Many ninjas never attended the ninja school,” Chiba argued.
“That’s because they were trained and recommended by their respective families. However, you are just an ordinary person,” Sarutobi Hiruzen replied.
“But I defeated the Third Kazekage,” Chiba protested.
“Rules are rules. It doesn’t matter whom you defeated,” Sarutobi Hiruzen regretfully explained.
This time, Chiba’s eyes narrowed.
“Are you trying to embarrass me, Third Hokage!” Chiba’s tone changed.
He had realized that there must be a reason behind such an obvious rejection. In the office, a sense of fear surged within Sarutobi Hiruzen. He looked at Chiba and saw the anger in his eyes.
“I will deal with your situation as soon as possible,” Sarutobi Hiruzen promised.
“For real?”
“For real.”
“Then hurry up!”
Leaving those words behind, Ch iba left the office with a sense of elation. Now, Sarutobi Hiruzen’s face completely sank.
