Chapter 99: Chiba: It Feels Like Kazekage Is Going To Disappear
Chiba was stunned. He never expected the other party to come here and make such a statement.
“So, you also think it’s the Hokage?” he said, suspicion evident in his voice.
Third Kazekage spoke quietly at that moment, displaying his deep understanding of human nature as the shadow of the village.
“Are you also suspecting the Hokage?” he asked, turning to look at Chiba.
“It can’t be!” Chiba replied, his expression filled with doubt. He couldn’t understand why the Hokage would want to kill him when they had never even fought before.
“Hehe… Looks like you’re still in the dark,” Kazekage sighed, extending his arm. “Help me up.”
Chiba complied, pulling Kazekage up and patting the sand off his body. Kazekage proceeded to sit on the ground, visibly weakened.
“Don’t move!” Chiba yelled, waving his hand. Suddenly, a hole was poked in Kazekage’s trouser pocket, and a shuriken floated out.
“Your abilities are truly disgusting,” Kazekage commented, sighing once more.
He hadn’t encountered such abilities in the ninja world for the past ten years. In terms of disgusting effects alone, Chiba undoubtedly ranked third.
Upon hearing Kazekage’s complaint, Chiba glanced at him. “I, Fat Tiger, suspect that you’re discriminating against me!”
“It’s not discrimination, it’s personal preference,” Kazekage shook his head, taking a seat on the ground. His demeanor turned serious.
“Actually, ever since you killed Rosa and took his sand pad, I knew that you would become a target for the Hokage. You might even be eliminated.”
With this revelation, Chiba couldn’t comprehend the situation. “You don’t understand. I never knew the Hokage would come after me. We’ve never had any conflict. Why would he want to kill me?”
“Haha… No wonder he had the funds to put a bounty on you!” Kazekage smiled mockingly.
“Your ability to create gold bars can have an impact on the entire village’s development. With that ability, you are destined to become the Fourth Hokage, even if you don’t want to. The influential families in your village would push you into that position. And do you think the Third Hokage sees you as anything other than an obstacle?”
Chiba started to connect the dots, considering Fujiki’s warning, Danzo’s remarks, and Uchiha Fugaku’s words. He even recalled the Orochimaru team surveilling him in the village. Everything began to make sense.
Kazekage scanned the unconscious Baki lying nearby and delivered a significant piece of information. “Baki is my envoy to Konoha Village. It seems he has been captured by the Hokage and turned into a pawn to frame our Sand Shinobi. Furthermore, if you return to the village, you’ll undoubtedly be ambushed by Sarutobi Hiruzen…”
As Kazekage stopped speaking, Chiba fell silent for a long time. He shifted from his initial impulsive thinking to analyzing the situation from a third-person perspective.
Eventually, he aimed his suspicion directly at Sarutobi Hiruzen. “So it turns out I was completely in the dark…”
Speaking to himself, Chiba realized his own impulsiveness. He had been misled, and upon seeing Baki for the first time, he had been too hasty.
In retrospect, it was unlikely that Baki had participated willingly if he ended up in that state. Instead, someone had trapped him, waiting for Chiba to take the bait.
“Fine, I admit it. I was the one who suffered,” Chiba confessed, ignoring Kazekage’s expression. He felt a tinge of guilt for his impulsive actions that had affected the entire Sand Shinobi Village.
Kazekage, on the other hand, appeared proud and indifferent, as if he were the strong one while Chiba was the weak one.
“Well, forget it. I guess it’s my own fault,” Chiba said, planning to help Kazekage return to the village.
“Back to the village? Are you trying to throw me into a cesspit?” Kazekage retorted.
Chiba hesitated, realizing that Kazekage’s words held some truth.
“Besides, I don’t need your help. My subordinates have arrived,” Kazekage stated, looking into the distance.
Chiba followed his gaze and saw a red-haired boy running toward them.
“Are you in such dire straits that you’re relying on children as subordinates?” Chiba exclaimed, surprised by the young age of the boy.
“What do you know? This is my prodigy, Scorpion! He has incredible talent in puppetry,” Kazekagesaid proudly, valuing the boy highly.
Chiba suddenly realized something. He looked at the collapsed Third Kazekage, then at the approaching Scorpion. He had a feeling that if he didn’t intervene, Third Kazekage would be lost forever.
