Naruto World Through Tenseigan - Chapter 27
Carefully examining the short-statured Uchiha in front of him, Hyuga Kyo’s thoughts began to drift.
Uchiha Shisui.
A young man who greatly influenced Itachi and indirectly led to the annihilation of the Uchiha clan. He was a boy who, full of hope for reconciliation with the village, was ruthlessly betrayed and ambushed by Danzo.
After losing one of his Mangekyou Sharingan, he resolutely chose to commit suicide in silence to prevent further conflict between his clan and the village.
This Uchiha, whose talent might have surpassed even Itachi’s, ended his comet-like, brief, and brilliant life in a tragically sorrowful manner.
“How pitiful!”
Thinking about Shisui’s future, Hyuga Kyo couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
Shisui’s tragic end was closely tied to his naivety. He should never have exposed his Mangekyou Sharingan, nor should he have confessed the existence of ‘Kotoamatsukami,’ a fearsome ocular jutsu, to the village’s higher-ups.
Putting himself in the Hokage’s shoes, Hyuga Kyo understood that if a powerful Uchiha with ‘Kotoamatsukami’ appeared amidst a brewing coup, even he would find it hard to remain at ease.
Reining in his wandering thoughts, Hyuga Kyo smiled and said, “I’ve heard many legends about the Sharingan. I hope this time I’ll have a chance to experience its power firsthand by sparring with you.”
Shisui smiled back, “Compared to your Hyuga clan’s Byakugan, the Sharingan has no advantage. But I’m also looking forward to a match with you.”
After exchanging pleasantries, Shisui turned and walked away.
Shisui was well aware of the village’s current suspicions of the Uchiha, so he maintained a certain distance from other ninjas, both to protect himself and to safeguard others.
Watching Shisui’s departing figure, Hyuga Kyo sighed softly.
The Uchiha coup seemed laughably absurd primarily because the clan’s top three experts were either holding back or had defected.
Shisui and Itachi were the defectors, but the clan leader, Uchiha Fugaku, was also half-heartedly involved in the coup, driven more by the clan members than by personal conviction. This lack of genuine resolve led him to surrender without resistance when he discovered his son had turned traitor, sacrificing his life for Itachi’s path.
In reality, if the Uchiha had been united, whether the coup succeeded was uncertain, but they could certainly have left Konoha in ruins. Even Shisui alone, with ‘Kotoamatsukami,’ could have swept through Konoha’s high-ranking officials.
As Hyuga Kyo pondered this, Guy came over, whispering, “Shisui seems to have a big reputation, but he appears to be an easy-going Uchiha!”
Genma, chewing on a senbon, snorted, “That depends on who he’s dealing with. He’s polite to Kyo because he’s from the Hyuga clan. If it were you, he might not even acknowledge you.”
Asuma joined them, his face serious, “This guy is no joke. If you encounter him in the assessment, be very careful.”
The guy was curious, “How strong is he?”
“I heard he has records of killing three Mist Jonin. He’s recognized as a genius within the Uchiha clan,” Asuma explained. “I also heard from my father that Shisui’s strength was enough for a Jonin promotion long ago. This Special Jonin assessment is just a formality for him.”
Everyone gasped, “What!?”
Seeing their shocked faces, Asuma shrugged, “What’s so surprising? Look around. The Uchiha only sent him, which speaks volumes.”
With this, everyone observed their surroundings more carefully.
They noticed that despite the crowded venue, Shisui was indeed the only one wearing the Uchiha crest.
Their hearts sank.
Asuma’s words seemed to hold some truth. Of the fifteen promotion slots, one was already practically reserved for the Uchiha.
However, Hyuga Kyo noted that he seemed to be the only participant from the Hyuga clan. He mused, “Could it be that the clan made some arrangement with the village, securing a slot for me as well?”
Noticing Hyuga Kyo’s change in expression, Asuma winked and patted his shoulder, “Figured it out? Your Hyuga clan must have secured a slot for you too.”
Hyuga Kyo crossed his arms, putting on a displeased expression, “What a waste of effort!”
Disliking favoritism would be too hypocritical, but given the context with his peers, he had to show disdain for such special treatment.
Guy, as his teammate, nodded in agreement, “Yeah, with Kyo’s strength, this assessment shouldn’t be a problem.”
The others had heard about Hyuga Kyo’s recent achievements, knowing his strength had grown rapidly. They nodded in agreement, accepting that some privileges were expected from prestigious clans.
At this moment, the Third Hokage appeared in the assessment venue.
Given that the participants were all experienced ninjas, the Third Hokage did not waste words and directly announced the assessment rules.
This assessment focused on evaluating combat strength. As long as a participant had sufficient combat power or excelled in a particular area, they could pass.
This made it somewhat easier for those with Kekkei Genkai or secret techniques to become Special Jonin compared to ordinary ninjas.
The assessment followed a random draw format for pairings. Hyuga Kyo’s first-round opponent was his classmate, Kurenai Yuhi.
In Practice Ground No. 9, Hyuga Kyo stood with one hand on his hip and calmly said, “Kurenai, your luck isn’t very good.”
Kurenai’s face was somber. She said nothing but stared intently at Hyuga Kyo, trying to find an opening.
As a genjutsu specialist, facing a dojutsu wielder was indeed tricky.
It was well known that both the Byakugan and Sharingan had some resistance to genjutsu. While not entirely immune, their effectiveness would be significantly reduced against these dojutsu users.
Hyuga Kyo was also curious about how his Tenseigan would fare against genjutsu, so he didn’t rush to attack but waited for Kurenai to make her move.
Hyuga Kyo’s calm demeanor put immense pressure on Kurenai, making her feel something was off.
Unable to withstand the tension, Kurenai finally acted.
“Genjutsu: Tree Binding Death!”
As soon as Kurenai made her move, she used her best genjutsu, one of her family’s secret techniques.
Hyuga Kyo felt a momentary daze, but quickly returned to clarity as if nothing had happened.
Kurenai was shocked, “How is this possible!?”
