“Third Hokage-sama.”
“Hokage-sama.”
As Hiruzen Sarutobi approached, Group C had just finished drawing lots, and the students greeted him respectfully.
“Everyone, just act as usual. I’m just here to watch,” Hiruzen said with a kind smile.
“Contestant 1, Anko Mitarashi, and Contestant 2, Sanken Asakawa, prepare to begin the battle,” Mokutsuki’s shadow clone announced, starting the test.
The students called upon quickly moved to the battle area and got ready.
Hiruzen glanced around. To avoid interference, the testing areas for the three groups were spaced out.
“Mokutsuki, these five weeks must have been hard on you, managing over three hundred students by yourself,” Hiruzen remarked.
In this situation, one person wouldn’t be enough; shadow clones were necessary. Mokutsuki’s natural body was beside Hiruzen while his clone presided over the exams.
“It’s my duty,” Mokutsuki replied with a smile, not saying much more.
Hiruzen nodded with a smile, focusing on the battle that had just begun.
Despite her opponent, Sanken Asakawa, being a fourth-year student, Anko, though shorter, showed no hesitation and rushed in for close combat.
Anko’s taijutsu was highly aggressive. She adopted a style in which she could take damage but ensured her opponent took more.
Feeling the many eyes on them, Sanken silently cursed, struggling against Anko’s relentless assault.
Using Anko’s punch to push them off, Sanken retreated to a tree and then threw a barrage of shuriken at Anko, trying to keep his distance.
But Anko, who had completed her tree-climbing training, had also practiced combat in the forest and quickly caught up to Sanken, engaging in a tactical battle among the trees.
They both used the basic techniques: Clone Jutsu, Transformation Jutsu, and Substitution Jutsu.
“Mokutsuki, this Anko Mitarashi is in your class, right?” Hiruzen asked suddenly.
Because Mokutsuki’s class had performed exceptionally well before, Hiruzen remembered the top students.
“Yes, she’s a student in Class 1-A,” Mokutsuki confirmed.
“To have such chakra control and ninjutsu proficiency in the first year is impressive,” Hiruzen said, stroking his beard.
He was delighted with Mokutsuki’s teaching results. Both students’ performance was excellent, and this was the group with the slowest progress.
“Indeed, her strength surpasses that of many third-year and even some fourth-year students,” a Chunin teacher accompanying Hiruzen remarked.
“Her opponent is also doing well. With more practice, he should reach graduation level,” Hiruzen added.
The other Chunin teachers nodded in agreement.
One Chunin, in particular, was surprised because Sanken Asakawa was his student. He remembered Sanken as an average student, yet he had made significant progress in just five weeks of special training.
Was it due to his previous lack of effort and diligent practice in these five weeks, or was Mokutsuki simply that good of a teacher? He wasn’t sure.
“Anko Mitarashi wins.”
In the end, Anko slightly outperformed Sanken and won the match.
“Contestant 3, Kotetsu Hagane, and Contestant 4, G?ichi Nakamori, prepare to begin,” Mokutsuki quickly announced the next contestants.
“G?ichi Nakamori? He’s one of my students,” Ikegaya Y? said.
“Oh, how does he usually perform in combat?” Hiruzen inquired.
“He’s fairly average, with combat scores around fifteen points,” Ikegaya Y? replied honestly.
“But his opponent seems to be a first or second-year student, so he should be fine, right?”
Hiruzen understood G?ichi Nakamori’s level from the score. According to the academy’s grading standards, he was pretty average.
“Not necessarily. Kotetsu Hagane is also one of Mokutsuki-sensei’s students and has excellent combat scores,” said Ayaka Ueda before Mokutsuki could identify his student.
As the observers discussed, the battle began.
G?ichi Nakamori used his size advantage to close in and launch a fierce attack quickly.
Kotetsu Hagane, though at a disadvantage in strength, was smaller and more agile, skillfully dodging G?ichi’s attacks.
The fight was intense and evenly matched.
“If nothing unexpected happens, G?ichi Nakamori should win,” a Chunin teacher predicted.
Although Kotetsu wasn’t heavily suppressed, he was at a disadvantage. Being younger, he lacked the stamina to maintain the fight, and G?ichi would eventually find an opening.
“This student is good too. Although not as strong as his classmate, he’s still very impressive,” Hiruzen said, puffing on his pipe.
After all, it was a cross-grade battle, and to fight like this was already commendable.
“Deception Technique!”
Taking a brief respite, Kotetsu used his strongest ninjutsu.
To enhance his technique, Kotetsu had even visited a women’s clothing store.
Instantly, the field was filled with six women in revealing outfits surrounding G?ichi Nakamori.
“Huh?” G?ichi’s attention was mysteriously drawn to them.
Kotetsu seized the opportunity to kick G?ichi down, then pressed a kunai against him.
“Kotetsu Hagane wins!”
A stunned G?ichi Nakamori realized what had happened.
He knew about Kotetsu’s technique but never expected him to use it in this setting, with the Third Hokage watching.
Silence.
The field was deathly quiet, with no one making a sound.
Both students and teachers were stunned by the scene.
“Ahem.”
Finally, Hiruzen’s cough broke the silence.
Entranced, Hiruzen had inhaled too much smoke, and he quickly wiped away a trace of red from under his nose, then thoughtfully commented:
“Mokutsuki-sensei’s special training has been very effective. Kotetsu Hagane cleverly used his strengths, and G?ichi Nakamori’s performance was also commendable. How many points do you think his combat performance deserves?”
“Twenty-four,” one Chunin teacher suggested.
The other teachers agreed, and their scores did not differ much.
No one mentioned Kotetsu’s unusual technique; everyone unanimously praised Mokutsuki’s special training and the students’ significant progress.
Occasionally, they would glance at Kotetsu’s direction, thinking he was quite a talent.
“Kotetsu, you’re going to be famous now,” Izumo Kamizuki said enviously to the victorious Kotetsu.
Using a clever ninjutsu to defeat a stronger opponent under the Third Hokage’s watch—he wished he was the one standing there.
“Contestant 5, Yoshi Ishii, and Contestant 6, Izumo Kamizuki, prepare.”
Hearing his name, Izumo quickly took the stage. He was ready to make a name for himself, too!
