- Chapter 129 - The Characteristics of Flame Breathing Emerge
Seeing Obito’s smiling face, which clearly showed he was more than happy about Shisui’s impending struggle, Shisui felt a bit complicated. He wanted to say that the comfort was enough and there was no need for more, but he decided against it.
Shisui chose to continue training for a while, while Obito walked home with Rin Nohara. Although they didn’t take the exact same path home, they did share a portion of the way.
“Rin, how’s your medical ninjutsu training going?” Obito asked with a smile as they walked.
“It’s going well. I feel like I’ve learned a lot of useful new techniques. Now I can handle the most basic healing,” Rin replied.
“If you ever get hurt, Obito, make sure to come to me for treatment,” Rin said with a gentle smile.
Seeing Rin’s smile, Obito felt a bit dazed, as if he was seeing a blooming flower. Then he scratched his head and laughed, “Hehe, then I’ll be counting on you, Rin.”
“It’s no trouble at all to treat you, Obito. But remember, just because you have someone to heal you doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take care of yourself. Getting hurt still hurts,” Rin said seriously, looking into Obito’s eyes.
“I’m Uchiha Obito, the strongest student in the fourth year. I won’t get hurt so easily,” Obito boasted, patting his chest.
“But Obito, you haven’t even taken the top spot in the year-end practical exams yet. Can you really call yourself the strongest in the fourth year?” Rin reminded him.
“But during the summer training, I already beat Guy, so that counts too,” Obito said without changing his expression.
“Hmm, that makes sense,” Rin thought for a moment and agreed.
“I hope you keep it up, Obito. If you do, you’ll definitely become an excellent ninja,” Rin said, clenching her fists in encouragement.
Obito’s face flushed slightly, and his determination soared. He decided to train a bit more once he got home.
After they parted ways, they waved goodbye to each other.
“If only I could be in the same team as Rin after graduation,” Obito mused as he walked down the street, a smile on his face. In his mind, he imagined an excellent scenario where he and Rin trained together, undertook dangerous missions, and he heroically saved her from danger. If he got hurt, Rin would heal him with her medical ninjutsu.
They would help each other complete various high-difficulty missions and eventually become a famous pair in the ninja world. Although teams typically consisted of three members, Obito didn’t care who the third person was, as long as it wasn’t Kakashi. He thought it was unlikely to be Kakashi anyway, since Kakashi had graduated years ago and already had his own teammates and teacher.
“Granny, do you need help?” Obito suddenly noticed an elderly lady who seemed to have fallen and rushed over to ask.
“My legs aren’t very good. Could you help me to that bench over there?” the old woman asked, frowning.
“Granny, let me carry you to the hospital for a check-up. It’s not good if you’ve hurt your bones,” Obito suggested.
The elderly are more fragile, and a fall could easily result in a severe injury.
“Don’t worry, granny. Even though I’m small, I’m a ninja. Carrying one person is nothing, and I can even carry three,” Obito said confidently.
“A ninja, huh…” the old woman seemed hesitant, not wanting to trouble a child. But under Obito’s warm smile and persistent persuasion, she agreed. Obito carried the old woman on his back and ran towards the Konoha Hospital.
After taking the old woman to the hospital, Obito also got her home address to inform her family.
After notifying the old woman’s family, Obito continued on his way home. Not long after, he saw an old man carefully walking down some stairs with a cane.
Without a word, Obito ran over and helped the old man down the stairs safely.
“You’re a good child, thank you,” the old man said with a kind smile.
“It’s nothing, just lending a hand,” Obito said, waving his hand and smiling.
Soon after, Obito saw an older man with a child whose toy had gotten stuck in a tree. Obito gathered chakra in his feet and jumped up the tree in two leaps, retrieving the toy and giving it back to the child.
“Big brother, you’re amazing! Are you a ninja?” the child asked excitedly.
“Not a full-fledged ninja yet, but soon,” Obito responded with a goofy smile.
Then Obito saw an old man carrying a heavy package and helped him carry it home. Surprisingly, he found himself back at the spot where he had parted ways with Rin.
By the time Obito got home, it was already late, and the sky was completely dark.
“I wanted to train more, but I’ll practice a bit before going to bed,” Obito thought, looking at the time.
Although helping people had taken up a lot of time, Obito didn’t regret it. If he had to do it all over again, he would still make the same choices.
Losing a bit of training time wouldn’t affect him much, but not helping the elderly could result in something terrible happening to them.
Obito then went to the yard to practice his breathing technique.
“Heat, burn, flame…” Obito muttered, inhaling large amounts of oxygen and trying to grasp the essence of the Flame Breathing technique.
Unexpectedly, he suddenly felt a sensation he had never experienced before. His body became hot, and the chakra pathways and nodes where the air flowed became warm.
He had a sudden idea and gathered chakra in his hand, then performed a nature transformation.
Whoosh!
Instantly, a fist-sized flame emerged from his palm, and Obito could clearly feel the heat from the flame.
“The conversion speed of the flame has increased,” Obito said in surprise.
He couldn’t see chakra values like Mokutsuki, but he noticed that his transformation speed was different from usual.
Obito thought for a moment and resumed normal breathing, stopping the use of the breathing technique. Gathering chakra again, the flame on his palm was noticeably smaller than before.
“Does eating spicy food really help with training Flame Breathing?” Obito wondered, excited and surprised.
His current state matched Mokutsuki’s description of Flame Breathing perfectly.
Obito couldn’t wait to buy some chili peppers to eat while training.
The spiciness was unpleasant, but to avoid disappointing Rin and Mokutsuki and to become an excellent ninja, short-term pain was bearable.
The next day, Obito eagerly shared his progress with Mokutsuki.
Mokutsuki used his appraisal jutsu and was shocked to see that Obito’s proficiency had jumped from sixteen to twenty-one, surpassing Guy’s nineteen.
