- Chapter 132 - Covering Weaknesses
Monday morning, the first exam of the second semester of the year began at the Ninja Academy. Unlike the previous exam, Mokutsuki was promoted this time and didn’t need to draw lots to decide which class to proctor. Mokutsuki could patrol the various first-year classes or sit quietly in the office drinking tea.
However, having nothing to do was boring, so Mokutsuki sent a Shadow Clone to patrol a few times and returned to the office while his main body went to train.
Mokutsuki had not used a Ninjutsu Proficiency Scroll to train the Contract Seal directly but had practiced it himself to the proficient level. Since there was no urgent need for sealing techniques, Mokutsuki believed that with his talent for sealing techniques, he could research it himself and save the proficiency scroll for later.
Regarding physical strength, Mokutsuki had already mastered Rock Breathing for over two and a half months. With continuous twenty-four-hour training, he tested his physical strength weekly, and there was progress each time.
After two months, the rate of progress began to slow, but it was still better than regular training.
Mokutsuki hadn’t spent much time on the five basic ninjutsu, as his current level of proficiency was sufficient based on his observations and assessments of other ninjas. Instead, he focused on studying the various combinations of his ninjutsu and how to execute combination techniques in combat.
Mokutsuki felt that his real shortcomings were chakra capacity and combat experience.
He possessed a high level of nature transformation and many proficient ninjutsu. The power of his ninjutsu was so great that he didn’t dare to unleash it fully for fear of attracting the ANBU.
Mokutsuki believed the strength would be at the Kage level if he unleashed his ninjutsu at full power. However, using such powerful techniques continuously would quickly deplete his chakra.
A more vivid analogy would be that Mokutsuki’s water outlet was huge, but his stored water volume was a little. Although not as extreme as a certain mage who could only use explosion magic once, his chakra was less abundant than his output capacity.
As for combat experience, there was no easy way to gain it. Mokutsuki didn’t have the opportunity to fight at full strength to test his level unless he wanted to be suspected of being a spy and invited for tea by the ANBU or ROOT.
So Mokutsuki only had the essential combat experience from ROOT training, with no additional real combat experience.
Mokutsuki was working hard to supplement these two deficiencies.
In terms of chakra, Mokutsuki was already trying to earn chakra rewards. He had been grinding for chakra in the first month of the new semester, accumulating about 1,180 points through teaching.
For combat experience, Mokutsuki’s current idea was to create Shadow Clones and have them fight each other, with the memories returning to the main body to increase expertise. Whether this method would be effective remains to be seen, but it is better than doing nothing.
Besides the Shadow Clone training method, Mokutsuki had another idea that could increase his combat experience and train his students. However, it wasn’t the best time to propose this idea yet. He needed to wait until he had achieved better results, and the war had been going on for a while before suggesting it.
The next day, Mokutsuki visited the first-year class A practical exam site to observe the students’ overall combat performance.
He planned to check on Might Guy and Obito during the grade-level practical exams on the third day.
With the summer special training rewards in mind, Mokutsuki now pays close attention to the progress of the first-year class A students.
“Director Hanyu.” Two proctoring teachers greeted Mokutsuki with a smile.
This time, the proctoring teachers weren’t very familiar with Mokutsuki; their relationship was more like that of colleagues who knew each other’s names.
“Teacher Kikuta, Teacher Murashima.” Mokutsuki responded with a smile.
Initially, seeing Mokutsuki coming over, Murashima Kansei felt slightly pressured, thinking he needed to be more cautious with scoring. However, after a brief chat with Mokutsuki, Murashima Kansei relaxed.
Mokutsuki was as gentle and friendly as his reputation at the Ninja Academy. Although his position and ninja rank were higher than ordinary teachers, he didn’t show superiority.
Honestly, Murashima Kansei was a bit surprised when Mokutsuki called him by name. He remembered only talking to Mokutsuki once and didn’t expect him to remember.
“Sigh, the opponents are just a bunch of first-year students. It’s hard to get excited,” said Kotetsu Hagane, crossing his arms with a regretful expression.
“Yeah, fighting them will probably feel like bullying kids,” agreed Izumo Kamizuki, nodding.
“Aren’t you two also first-year students? Anyone who didn’t know better would think you’re amazing after special training, yet you didn’t even make it past the third round in the practical test,” Anko Mitarashi couldn’t help but retort.
Even though she was a top contender in group C, she hadn’t complained, but these two acted pretentious.
“Not making it past the third round was just bad luck. Anko, you don’t understand. Our ninja path is smooth now that we’ve been recognized by the Hokage,” Kotetsu retorted.
“That technique of yours is no good. If you faced me, I’d knock you to the ground,” Anko said, waving her fists as a taijutsu warning.
Kotetsu and Izumo dared not boast for a moment, acknowledging Anko’s current brute strength.
“Number one, Uchiha Shisui; number two, Mitarashi Anko. Prepare for the exam,” the proctor’s voice reached the three.
“Hahaha, looks like you won’t have a chance to meet us, Anko,” Izumo rejoiced. Although Anko could defeat anyone in the first year, she had unfortunately drawn the one person she couldn’t beat.
“Someone’s not even making it to the second round. I won’t say who,” Kotetsu instantly felt confident.
“Damn it! You two better not leave after your exams!” Anko grumbled, frustrated that Shisui was number one.
Murashima Kansei and the others were proctoring first-year students for the first time this academic year. After watching the battle between Anko and Shisui, they were instantly shocked.
“Judging by first-year standards, I can’t deduct their points,” Murashima Kansei said bluntly.
Their fight was beyond first-year students’ level, more like a fourth-year class showdown or a grade-level practical exam.
Although Anko lost, Murashima Kansei still gave her full marks. It wasn’t that Anko wasn’t strong, but her opponent was more robust.
When the first round of battles for first-year class A ended, Murashima Kansei looked at the score sheet in his hand, doubting his life. He felt he would be called in for questioning, as the average score was too high.
Murashima Kansei glanced at the other teacher’s score sheet and felt relieved when he saw it was similar to his. It wasn’t his scoring that was high; the first-year class A had indeed performed well.
“In another half to one month’s time, there should be improvement rewards,” Mokutsuki thought, observing the performance of class A.
After watching the first round and seeing all the students’ battles, Mokutsuki left.
On the third day, Mokutsuki went to the location of the fourth-year grade-level practical exams.
