- Chapter 133 - Obito's Mission Settlement (4k)
“Number two, Hyuga Kaen; number four, Might Guy, prepare for the exam.”
Might Guy’s opponent for the second round was Hyuga Kaen, who had defeated him once in the first semester.
Hyuga Kaen did not participate in Mokutsuki’s summer special training, stating that he needed to train with his clan elders at home.
Mokutsuki understood Kaen’s reasoning. The Hyuga clan’s taijutsu was unique, and ordinary teachers could only teach Hyuga students a little.
Even if Mokutsuki had been a Special Jonin then, Kaen likely still wouldn’t have attended, believing that Mokutsuki couldn’t help him become more muscular.
“Might Guy, be careful. I’m much stronger than I was last semester,” Hyuga Kaen said, forming the seal of confrontation.
He had been very dissatisfied with his defeat by Might Guy during the end-of-term exam. Over the break, he had refined his Gentle Fist with the help of his uncle, and now Hyuga Kaen was confident he could defeat Might Guy.
“Who are you?” Might Guy scratched his head, feeling that the person with the Byakugan in front of him looked familiar.
“I remember now! You’re that Hyuga Daimon from last semester!” Might Guy recall the end-of-term exam?
Hyuga Kaen’s forehead furrowed deeply, unsure if Might Guy was using a tactic to anger him or if he had mistaken his name.
“Kaen! It’s Hyuga Kaen! Is your memory that bad? Your theoretical grades must be terrible,” Hyuga Kaen corrected loudly.
“You got that right; my theoretical grades aren’t very good,” Might Guy said, forming the seal of confrontation.
Hyuga Kaen had no words for him and took a deep breath to prepare for the battle.
Last time, his strength was slightly inferior to Might Guy’s. Although he could see through Might Guy’s moves, his body couldn’t react accordingly.
This time was different. With his uncle’s help, his speed and Gentle Fist skills had improved. Since Gentle Fist causes significant damage upon contact, he has no weaknesses.
“Begin!” the proctor shouted as the two were ready.
Hyuga Kaen instantly activated his Byakugan, veins bulging around his eyes, allowing him to see Might Guy’s chakra points and pathways. He quickly advanced towards Might Guy, aiming for his chakra points.
Might Guy quickly sidestepped and countered with a powerful punch. Although Hyuga Kaen saw the move, his palm could only partially deflect the punch, pushing him back over a meter.
“Such strength, even greater than before!” Hyuga Kaen felt the numbing in his palm and realized Might Guy had also improved significantly.
“This level doesn’t require using Breathing Techniques,” Might Guy concluded after a probing attack.
Hyuga Kaen’s initial failure led many watching students to believe he was already on the brink of defeat.
“Guy is strong. Hyuga Kaen is no match for him,” said Genma Shiranui.
He was number two and had fought Hyuga Kaen in the first round.
After fighting Kaen, Genma felt that Kaen was only of average strength in Group A, able to beat weaker members but no match for strong ones like Might Guy.
“Yeah, he might be the only fourth-year who didn’t join the special training. He seemed strong last semester, but now he looks average,” said Ebisu.
Most fourth-year students had joined the special training. Even if they hadn’t seen Might Guy fight, they knew his strength from the test rankings.
Hyuga Kaen didn’t attack recklessly again. He planned to use his superior insight to find an opening in Might Guy’s defense.
However, while Kaen wanted to slow down the pace, Might Guy wasn’t interested in wasting time.
Suddenly, Kaen noticed Might Guy’s speed increase dramatically, and he appeared in front of him in the blink of an eye.
“Leaf Strong Whirlwind!” Might Guy used a burst of chakra to appear before Kaen and quickly launched a kick.
“So fast!” Hyuga Kaen could only think this as the powerful kick sent him flying.
Although Kaen wanted to continue fighting and quickly got up, Might Guy gave him no chance, appearing instantly and delivering a heavy punch.
Dazed from the kick, Kaen couldn’t react in time and was knocked down again. He couldn’t get up quickly this time, and Might Guy held a kunai to his body.
“Might Guy wins!” the proctor announced Might Guy’s victory.
“Just as expected, he lost with little resistance,” Genma Shiranui noted.
“Among the fourth-years, only Obito might have a chance. After all, he occasionally beats Guy,” Ebisu considered.
“Let’s ask their classmates. They should have fought by now,” Genma suggested, looking around for familiar faces from the summer training.
Genma saw Rin Nohara and Obito talking and felt awkward about asking directly.
When Obito’s battle began, Genma’s curiosity got the better, and he dragged a reluctant Ebisu over to ask.
“There are only about ten participants in the grade-level practical exam, so we’ll see them soon. No need to ask,” Ebisu argued.
Ignoring him, Genma approached Rin Nohara.
“Who’s the top student in your class this time?” Genma asked curiously.
“It’s Guy,” Rin replied.
“Obito lost? Then it seems Guy will win the grade-level practical exam again,” Genma thought.
The class practical exam was yesterday, so it seemed unlikely that Obito could recover and win today.
As time passed, the battles continued until only the final match between Uchiha Obito and Might Guy remained.
Guy and Obito had drawn favorable lots and hadn’t faced each other earlier, reaching the final match.
“Students Might Guy and Uchiha Obito, prepare for the exam!” the proctor called.
“Go for it, Obito! Good luck!” Rin Nohara cheered, smiling.
Obito smiled back and nodded, walking seriously to the battleground.
Yesterday’s defeat had left Obito unsatisfied. He realized that in terms of strength, he was no weaker than Guy, perhaps even more vital.
After reviewing his defeat, Obito knew he had underestimated Guy, assuming his progress guaranteed victory.
In reality, their gap wasn’t that significant.
“Guy, thanks for going all out yesterday, but today will be different,” Obito said, regaining his confident smile.
He wouldn’t underestimate Guy again and wouldn’t lose in front of Rin and Mokutsuki.
“That’s the spirit of youth! Let’s fight with all we’ve got!” Guy gave a thumbs-up, sensing Obito’s fighting spirit.
“Begin!”
As soon as the proctor spoke, Guy vanished from his spot.
“Leaf Great Whirlwind!”
A shout and a rapid whirlwind kick came from Obito’s side.
“Leaf Whirlwind!”
Obito didn’t dodge but quickly countered with his whirlwind kick.
Bang!
Their legs collided, generating a powerful gust that stirred the dust on the ground.
“Using Breathing Techniques right from the start, huh?” Guy noted Obito’s unusual strength, realizing he was in Flame Breathing mode.
The impact caused both to step back slightly.
But the distance needed to be longer for both. Obito wrapped his legs in chakra and quickly appeared in front of Guy, throwing a punch.
The guy blocked with his arm, feeling the force. Excited, Guy realized Obito’s taijutsu could now match his own, thanks to the breathing technique.
“I can’t hold back either,” Guy said, channeling chakra into his fist and punching Obito. His breathing rhythm changed sharply.
The guy inhaled a large amount of oxygen, enhancing every cell in his body and feeling an endless surge of power.
With the breathing technique, Guy’s speed and strength surged. His punches and kicks now generated gusts of wind.
“How did they get so strong?” Hyuga Kaen was shocked.
He realized the Guy who had defeated him hadn’t even used his full strength.
Guy and Obito’s current speed and power far surpassed what he’d experienced.
Kaen even thought Obito could defeat him with taijutsu despite being more skilled in ninjutsu.
“It’s been less than three months. How did this happen?” Kaen couldn’t accept it.
He had once taken first place in his grade last semester, but now he needed to catch up, even with his uncle’s help.
“You didn’t notice? Everyone’s gotten stronger,” Kaen’s friend said.
“During the break, the school had a special training led by Mokutsuki-sensei. It was very effective. Mokutsuki-sensei is really strong.”
Kaen recalled today’s practical exam and realized overall strength had indeed increased. He had fought Genma Shiranui before and won easily, but today, it had taken much more effort.
“Why didn’t you join, Kaen? Everyone else did.”
Kaen didn’t respond, contemplating whether he should have made the same choice as everyone else.
Despite troubling his uncle to help, he had only widened the gap between himself and Guy.
Guy and Obito’s fight had reached a fever pitch on the battlefield. Both were using breathing techniques, going all out.
“Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!”
With the enhancement of Flame Breathing, Obito’s nature transformation speed increased, spewing numerous fireballs and forcing Guy to keep moving.
After finishing the Phoenix Flower Jutsu, Obito paused, giving Guy a chance to charge.
“Raging Leaf Strong Whirlwind!” Guy channeled chakra into his leg, enveloping it in light, and delivered his most powerful kick.
Before learning Flame Breathing, Obito would have used Shave to dodge, but nature’s transformation speed proved invaluable now.
Obito extended his palm.
, first wrapping it in chakra, then quickly transforming it with his fire nature.
Flames burst from Obito’s hand, and he swung his fiery palm towards Guy’s leg.
Obito felt the immense pressure on his palm but believed Guy was also struggling with his flames.
Feeling the heat, Guy quickly changed his move, punching at Obito.
Obito used Shave to evade, and Guy chased after him, but Obito noticed a brief pause in Guy’s movement.
Though brief, Obito noticed it, knowing Guy too well.
“Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!” Obito released a giant fireball over three meters in height at Guy.
Strike while the iron is hot. With Guy’s leg injured, Obito feigned an attack with the Great Fireball and combined it with the breathing technique and Shave, pushing Guy back continuously.
Frequent bursts of flames from Obito’s palms and mouth made it difficult for Guy to defend. The more injured he got, the more he fell behind. Despite his strong fighting spirit, Guy’s increasingly tired body couldn’t keep up, and his breathing became erratic.
“Uchiha Obito wins!” the proctor finally announced Obito’s victory.
“How did Obito lose yesterday? He won so convincingly today,” Genma Shiranui was puzzled.
He observed the whole fight and rarely saw Obito, appearing stronger than Guy, on the back foot.
“Who knows? Maybe he didn’t have Guy’s information yesterday?” Ebisu speculated, acknowledging the importance of information in battles.
“These two are exceptional students. Uchiha Obito excels in both taijutsu and ninjutsu. Might Guy, though not showing his ninjutsu, has achieved an extraordinary level in taijutsu for a student,” the proctor remarked.
The other teachers nodded in agreement, recognizing the significant gap between these two and other students.
Though Guy lost, they believed his strength was far beyond an ordinary student’s.
“Obito, you finally got first place,” Rin Nohara smiled, happy for him.
Mokutsuki, who had been silently watching, also smiled with satisfaction. Obito hadn’t choked at a crucial moment and displayed his true strength to defeat Guy.
Obito’s training task was settled immediately after his victory over Guy.
