- Chapter 29 - Master-Level Ninjutsu
Mokutsuki pondered the sudden notifications.
He hadn’t expected the student-teacher system to include training tasks.
Why hadn’t any appeared when he was creating training plans before? Was it only the students who could trigger them? Even if that were the case, there should have been some tasks triggered before, like Obito wanting to be the best in combat.
Mokutsuki guessed there were many restrictions for triggering training tasks, possibly related to trust levels or other factors.
Since this was the first time, he couldn’t determine all the conditions. The only thing he knew for sure was that the student needed to have a strong desire for the task’s goal.
Seeing the eager and expectant look in Obito’s eyes, Mokutsuki was very sure of this point.
“Habu-sensei, please agree this one time. If I get first place, I promise to double my efforts in completing your assignments and will follow any training plans you set in the future,” Obito pleaded.
He couldn’t forget the day he lost badly to Kakashi in front of Rin during the competition.
“Alright,” Mokutsuki said with a resigned look, nodding.
“Habu-sensei, you’re the best teacher in the world!” Obito cheered, excited.
“Save your praise until you’ve won first place,” Mokutsuki said, tapping Obito on the head with two fingers.
“Hehe, I’m just telling the truth,” Obito chuckled.
He had been in school for years and knew what made a good teacher. Mokutsuki was patient, made lessons engaging and easy to understand, and treated his students well. If that wasn’t a good teacher, what was?
“So, Habu-sensei, what jutsu are you going to teach me?” Obito asked curiously.
“Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique,” Mokutsuki replied.
“I already know the Great Fireball. I used it in the last competition and only scored twenty points,” Obito said, scratching his head.
In the previous competition, he used the Great Fireball to score twenty points and temporarily take the lead. But Kakashi then performed an Earth Release: Earthquake Slam, controlling the entire arena’s terrain to score a perfect thirty points.
“You want something impressive. Among the fire jutsu you can currently learn, the Great Fireball has the most impact,” Mokutsuki explained, walking to the riverbank and quickly forming hand seals.
“Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!”
Mokutsuki gathered a large amount of chakra, transforming it into fire as he exhaled. The massive flames formed a ten-meter-high fireball, making the one-meter-eighty Mokutsuki look small in comparison. The sight was even more awe-inspiring for Obito and Shisui.
“This is even stronger than last time. What is Habu-sensei’s true strength?” Shisui recalled the first time he visited Mokutsuki’s house.
Back then, he had seen Mokutsuki practicing the Great Fireball, which was already impressive. But this was even more so.
Shisui felt that Mokutsuki’s strength was unfathomable and that he hadn’t yet shown his full power.
“This…is the Great Fireball?” Obito was dumbfounded by the massive fireball, taller than his house.
Compared to Shisui’s Great Fireball, his own seemed like a tiny spark. And compared to Mokutsuki’s, it was barely a flicker.
Obito found it hard to believe that Mokutsuki had used the same jutsu as him.
“So big… If I encounter such a jutsu, I need to be faster and stronger,” Might Guy said, looking up at the enormous fireball.
The massive fireball crashed into the river, evaporating a large amount of water and creating a thick white mist. Mokutsuki then used Wind Release to disperse it quickly.
Exhaling lightly, Mokutsuki smiled at Obito. “How’s that for impressive?”
“It’s impressive enough. It looks so powerful,” Obito nodded rapidly. If his Great Fireball could be a quarter of Mokutsuki’s size, he should win the competition.
Mokutsuki thought it was indeed impressive. That display consumed a lot of chakra, burning through a thousand points of his chakra.
In actual combat, such a large Great Fireball wouldn’t be practical as it would be hard to hit anyone with it.
Mokutsuki remembered that in the previous life, someone had tallied up the results and found that in over seven hundred episodes, no Great Fireball had ever hit a humanoid target.
No wonder it was called the technique that couldn’t hit anyone.
“Now you try,” Mokutsuki said to Obito.
“Alright,” Obito nodded, moving to the riverbank and quickly forming hand seals before blowing out a stream of fire.
Embarrassingly, Obito’s Great Fireball was only the size of two heads, vastly different from Mokutsuki’s.
“Obito, it’s okay. Even a small one is…”
“Guy, please spare me your weird comfort,” Obito interrupted, stopping the jutsu.
“Do you know why your Great Fireball is so different from mine?” Mokutsuki asked.
“Because I haven’t mastered it?” Obito replied uncertainly.
“There are three reasons. First, your chakra control is poor, preventing you from using the limited chakra you have effectively.
“Second, your nature transformation is weak, so you can’t convert a large amount of chakra into fire.
“Third, your mastery of the Great Fireball is lacking,” Mokutsuki summarized.
He then handed Obito a small booklet, saying, “This is my experience with training fire chakra nature transformation. Study it well, and you’ll solve the nature transformation problem.”
Compared to Shisui, Obito’s foundation was much weaker. Mokutsuki spent the first month helping Obito rebuild his basics and teaching him the Dragon Fire Technique, so he hadn’t yet given Obito the nature transformation booklet.
If not for the training task suddenly appearing, Mokutsuki had planned to give it to him next semester.
After all, teaching Obito too much at once wouldn’t be effective.
**[You have gifted your disciple the Fire Chakra Nature Transformation Training Manual. Due to the disciple’s gratitude, you receive a major bonus reward: Fire Release: Head Mincing Pain (Master Level)]**
Mokutsuki hadn’t expected Obito’s gratitude to be so strong, giving him a master-level fire release jutsu.
The Head Mincing Pain wasn’t an ordinary fire jutsu. It was a B-rank fire release jutsu used by Kakuzu’s fire mask, known for its immense power. Combined with the Wind Release: Pressure Damage that Mokutsuki previously obtained, it could create a sea of flames capable of burning down a forest.
A flood of training memories surged in Mokutsuki’s mind, giving him the illusion that he had spent thirty years honing this jutsu in some unknown corner, reaching a level of mastery where he could use it as easily as breathing.
“I’ll study it every day!” Obito said, holding the booklet like a treasure.
“There’s one more thing: you need to improve your chakra control first,” Mokutsuki said with a smile.
Once Obito completed the basic tree climbing and water walking training, Mokutsuki’s enhanced water walking exercise, invented for Asuma, would come in handy.
Although Obito didn’t know what Mokutsuki was planning, recalling the painful experiences from the weekend, he knew it would be something challenging yet practical.
But now he could only face it head-on because, this time, it was his own request.
