- Chapter 42 - Mokutsuki's Interest in Sealing Jutsu
On Saturday afternoon, Mokutsuki returned to his house in the central district.
Having shared meals several times, their relationship had become quite familiar, so Mokutsuki invited Minato and Kushina over for dinner before he started cooking.
“Mokutsuki, what are you cooking today?” Kushina asked curiously.
Every time Kushina had eaten at Mokutsuki’s place, the dishes were never repeated.
It wasn’t just the variety; Mokutsuki always managed to make everything delicious. This skill impressed and made Kushina a bit envious.
“Mushroom soup and stir-fried mushrooms,” Mokutsuki said, pointing to a plastic bag full of mushrooms beside the sink.
Earlier that day, Shisui and the others had gathered many ingredients, including various fish and wild vegetables, and they had even hunted a wild boar. Mokutsuki had brought the leftovers home.
The wild mushrooms, in particular, were fresh and flavorful, but they needed to be cooked thoroughly to avoid food poisoning.
“Are these wild mushrooms from the forest?” Kushina asked, noticing the different types and sizes.
This reminded her of the first time she had teased Mokutsuki about using strange-colored mushrooms that caused hallucinations.
“Yes,” Mokutsuki nodded. “We had a picnic in the forest with some students today. We gathered too many ingredients and didn’t finish them, so I brought the extras home.”
“You even take students on picnics?” Kushina asked, feeling a bit envious.
She had never had a teacher take her on a picnic during her six years at the ninja academy.
“These students are quite close to me,” Mokutsuki explained.
“Mokutsuki, do you need help? I can wash the vegetables,” Minato offered, not wanting to eat for free.
“Minato, could you wash the mushrooms? I’ll start preparing the wild boar meat,” Mokutsuki said, not hesitating to assign a task.
Being overly polite wouldn’t help in deepening their friendship.
Since there were three people eating, besides the mushroom soup and stir-fried mushrooms, Mokutsuki also planned to make braised pork.
In his previous life, he had an aversion to fatty meat unless it was in braised pork, which he found delicious. However, he didn’t have the necessary ingredients for Mei Cai Kou Rou, so he would just make braised pork.
“And me? What should I do?” Kushina asked, feeling left out as she watched Minato and Mokutsuki working together.
“There’s not much space here, so just sit and wait for the food,” Mokutsuki replied.
Adding a third person would only create more chaos in the small kitchen.
Feeling bored, Kushina sat in the living room and picked up a book from the low table.
“Huh,” Kushina exclaimed, surprised to find a book about sealing jutsu titled “What is Sealing Jutsu.”
“Mokutsuki, why are you reading this book? It doesn’t seem very good just by the title…”
She stopped mid-sentence, noticing the author was Uzumaki Ashina.
“Cough, cough, this book is actually quite good, Mokutsuki. You should read it thoroughly,” Kushina said, clearing her throat.
“Yes, I’ve read it several times. Uzumaki Ashina is truly the patriarch of Konoha’s sealing techniques. Even someone like me, who doesn’t understand sealing jutsu, can learn a lot from it,” Mokutsuki said while preparing the pork.
“Of course, he was the leader of our Uzumaki clan,” Kushina said proudly.
“But Mokutsuki, are you interested in sealing jutsu?” she asked curiously.
“Yes, very much so. Sealing jutsu seems both mysterious and powerful,” Mokutsuki said, looking dreamy.
“In terms of improving one’s abilities, sealing jutsu is indeed a good choice,” Minato agreed.
They continued discussing sealing jutsu until the food was ready.
Most of the time, Mokutsuki listened, occasionally offering novice perspectives, which made Minato and Kushina feel more accomplished.
Kushina tried the braised pork first, and after taking a bite, she immediately took a big mouthful of rice.
“This is so delicious! Why haven’t I had this dish before?” Kushina said, immediately loving the taste.
“If you want to learn, I can teach you,” Mokutsuki offered with a smile.
“Deal! Minato and I will buy the ingredients tomorrow evening,” Kushina quickly agreed.
Noticing that more than half of the stir-fried mushrooms were already gone, she saw Minato eating non-stop and quickly joined in.
“Minato, save some for me!” she exclaimed, starting to eat.
The first bite amazed Kushina. It was incredibly fresh and delicious.
After eating, the three of them went for a walk, chatting about various topics. Mokutsuki shared funny stories from his teaching while Minato and Kushina talked about exciting experiences from their missions.
…
Two days before the competition, Mokutsuki began the final training for Obito.
“To make your jutsu look more powerful, besides nature transformation and chakra quantity, you can also use shape transformation to make it appear more impressive,” Mokutsuki said.
“But there’s only two days left. Is it enough time to train shape transformation?” Obito asked, scratching his head.
“Of course not,” Mokutsuki replied bluntly. Obito had a different talent for jutsu.
“But you don’t need to master shape transformation. You just need to master my modified Fireball Jutsu,” Mokutsuki said.
To ensure Obito won first place and maximize the training mission rewards, Mokutsuki modified the Fireball Jutsu to make it look bigger without increasing its actual power.
In other words, it would be visually impressive but not necessarily stronger.
After all, the youth ninjutsu competition didn’t involve actual combat; it was about showing off the most impressive jutsu.
“Mokutsuki-sensei, you’re like my Sage of Six Paths!” Obito exclaimed, feeling confident that victory was inevitable.
With Mokutsuki’s guidance, Kakashi had no chance!
“Since you called it a lifelong request, as your teacher, I must do my best,” Mokutsuki said, fostering Obito’s dependency on his help.
“Hehe,” Obito grinned sheepishly.
“Get back to training,” Mokutsuki said, tapping Obito’s head.
“Yes, sir!” Obito immediately resumed his practice.
He couldn’t wait to defeat Kakashi in front of Rin and claim first place.
