- Chapter 46 - The Nature Transformation of Yin Release Chakra
With a swift movement, Kakashi appeared on the stage.
“Kakashi, do your best!” Rin cheered.
Seeing Kakashi use the Body Flicker Technique just to get on stage, Obito thought Kakashi was showing off. He decided he also needed to learn that technique.
“Kakashi Hatake is no ordinary participant. He’s one of Konoha’s famous prodigies. If I remember correctly, this is your second time competing?” the host introduced Kakashi with more detail due to his fame.
“Yes,” Kakashi nodded coolly, maintaining his aloof demeanor.
“Kakashi Hatake, what jutsu will you be performing today?” the host asked.
“Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall,” Kakashi replied.
Once the host stepped back, Kakashi quickly formed the hand seals, unleashing his chakra.
“Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall!”
As Kakashi performed the jutsu, the ground shook, and a massive, solid wall rose from behind him.
“Such a high-level Earth Release jutsu…” one judge marveled at the long and thick wall, momentarily lost in thought.
Usually, he would have given a perfect score for this, but with one perfect score already awarded, another ideal score would mean a tie for first place.
After some consideration, the judge raised his scorecard with a ten. This dilemma was best left to the organizers.
“He’s still as overpowered as ever,” Asuma wasn’t surprised by Kakashi’s prowess.
“If you want to defeat Kakashi using ninjutsu, you need to train even harder,” Guy recalled the time Kakashi fought him seriously. It was a one-sided fight, except for one surprise kick he landed with the Leaf Whirlwind.
Seeing one judge give a perfect score, Obito felt uneasy. If Kakashi also got a perfect score, who would be declared the winner?
“Ten, ten, ten! Kakashi Hatake receives a total score of thirty points! Incredible! This is the second perfect score today and the first time in the competition’s history that we’ve had two perfect scores,” the host exclaimed.
This competition had an unusually high quality of participants, with two perfect scores. Uchiha Tekka, who had scored highly, would have easily won first place in the previous competition.
“What bad luck,” Tekka was frustrated. He thought he had a chance at first place but was now pushed to third.
He had to admit, though, that both Kakashi and Obito’s jutsu were genuinely powerful.
“If only you had competed, Shisui. You could have easily scored a perfect ten,” Tekka said to Shisui, confident in his abilities.
Shisui smiled but didn’t respond. He had no interest in the competition, especially since Obito was so eager to win first place.
“Are you satisfied now? It’ll take you a few more years to beat me,” Kakashi said to Obito as he stepped off the stage.
“Why are you so smug? We both scored thirty points, and I got mine first. By rights, I should be the winner,” Obito retorted, unwilling to concede.
“You got thirty because that’s your limit. I got thirty because it’s the highest score,” Kakashi said coolly.
“You…” Obito couldn’t out-argue Kakashi, and his face started to flush with frustration.
“Alright, both of you did great. No need to argue,” Rin stepped between them, smiling wryly.
Nearby, the event organizers discussed the situation.
“What do we do with two perfect scores? How do we decide the winner?”
“How about an additional round? Let them use another jutsu to compete again,” one suggested.
“That might work, but it seems unfair. One of them is still an Academy student, and mastering one Fire Release jutsu is already impressive,” another argued.
“Why not declare a tie for first place?” a new voice interjected.
The organizers turned to see a blond man wearing a forehead protector they hadn’t noticed before.
“You can use the dual first-place winners as a promotion, offering discounts to attract more customers,” Mokutsuki suggested with a smile.
“That’s a great idea,” the organizers agreed, finding the suggestion appealing. The competition aimed to boost foot traffic in the shopping district, and more customers meant more sales.
“Are you interested in opening a shop here?” one of the shop owners asked, impressed by Mokutsuki’s business acumen.
“No, I’m just a passing chunin. This competition is great for encouraging the village’s youth to train harder,” Mokutsuki praised before walking away.
If they had gone for an additional round, Obito would have no chance against Kakashi. Mokutsuki had done everything he could to secure Obito’s victory. He hoped the reward would be worth it.
No more perfect scores appeared after Kakashi and Obito. The highest score after them was only twenty-three points.
When all the participants had finished, it was time to announce the results.
“Uchiha Obito, first place. Hatake Kakashi, first place. Uchiha Tekka, second place…” the host announced.
Mokutsuki’s suggestion had worked, and Obito and Kakashi were tied for first place.
“You’re lucky this time, but next time, I’ll definitely beat you,” Obito said excitedly, issuing his challenge.
“When your skills are as sharp as your tongue, maybe you will,” Kakashi retorted his words as cutting as ever.
Fortunately, the prize of a beautifully crafted silver kunai and eight thousand ryo kept Obito in high spirits despite Kakashi’s barbs.
As the winners were announced, Obito’s training mission rewards were also calculated.
[Disciple Uchiha Obito’s training mission completed. Reward: Chakra +800, Ninjutsu Proficiency Scroll, Yin Release Chakra Nature Transformation (Proficient)]
Seeing the rewards, Mokutsuki felt a wave of satisfaction. Such generous rewards made his twenty days of effort worthwhile.
Eight hundred chakra points would take forty B-rank class sessions to earn.
The Ninjutsu Proficiency Scroll was also valuable, instantly raising a mastered jutsu to a proficient level.
But the Yin Release Chakra Nature Transformation was the most satisfying reward. More valuable than the chakra points, it added much to his skills.
The moment he received the reward, Mokutsuki’s mind was filled with memories of training in Yin Release Chakra Nature Transformation.
Mokutsuki opened his status panel to review his stats.
