- Chapter 61 - Talent for Sealing Techniques
“Seal!”
On Monday afternoon in the southern forest, Mokutsuki was practising the One-Finger Seal taught by Kushina.
Since it was a sealing technique meant to seal chakra, Mokutsuki used his shadow clones for experimentation.
“Unable to gather chakra, it worked,” the shadow clone reported back.
“But it feels like I could break through it with full force,” the shadow clone added.
Mokutsuki nodded, understanding why Minato said this sealing technique had no practical value.
Even though he had just learned it, the clone, with only half his chakra, could easily break through it. The binding strength was indeed weak.
“But I did learn it. Could it be that I have a talent for sealing techniques?” Mokutsuki wondered.
Kushina had given him the technique last night, and he had mastered it by today. According to Kushina, this meant he was a genius in sealing techniques.
Strictly speaking, he had practised for less than half a day, with some practice last night and a bit more this afternoon.
Many thoughts crossed Mokutsuki’s mind: it could be the original body’s innate talent, his own talent, or a combination of both…
The reason didn’t matter because it was undoubtedly good news.
Even without considering future powerful sealing techniques, this allowed him to see hope in breaking Danzo’s curse seal.
After reading books on sealing techniques and curse marks and learning a sealing technique, Mokutsuki realised that curse marks were a subset of sealing techniques.
The Cursed Tongue Eradication Seal was a more specialised type of sealing technique.
Sealing techniques can be dealt with in two ways.
The first was breaking through with overwhelming chakra, and the second was using the corresponding unsealing technique.
Relying on chakra to forcefully break the seal seemed unreliable to Mokutsuki, as the Cursed Tongue Eradication Seal was high-level. If he could break it, killing Danzo would be an easy task.
Therefore, Mokutsuki planned to learn more sealing techniques, study his own Cursed Tongue Eradication Seal, and eventually develop an unsealing technique for it.
He had deliberately saved a proficiency scroll for a sealing technique.
When the system rewarded him with ninjutsu of an unmastered chakra nature, it provided some corresponding nature transformation knowledge. Mokutsuki speculated that enhancing a sealing technique to proficiency level might similarly grant sealing technique knowledge.
Mokutsuki decided not to use the proficiency scroll on the One-Finger Seal. It seemed akin to the basic Three Techniques of sealing techniques, and using the scroll on it felt like a waste.
After finishing his disciples’ training, Mokutsuki headed to the central district.
Since he had been invited to dinner by Kushina and Minato the previous day, it was only fair to invite them to his house for dinner today.
Tonight, Mokutsuki prepared chilli fried eggs, tempura, and stewed potatoes with meat.
His personal favorite was the chili fried eggs, a dish his mother used to make for him in his previous life.
Mokutsuki loved eggs in any form—steamed, boiled, fried, or scrambled. Combined with his fondness for spicy food, his home rarely had chive fried eggs; it was mostly chili fried eggs.
First, he cracked the eggs into a bowl, beat them with chopsticks until frothy, and then mixed in the chilli before pouring the mixture into the pan.
Although his cooking skills, enhanced by his chef skills, had surpassed his mother’s, making this dish always brought back memories of his past life.
“Mokutsuki, what’s wrong? Are you afraid of the heat from your own cooking?” Kushina joked as she saw Mokutsuki hesitating to eat the chilli-fried eggs he had just picked up.
“It’s amazing how good chili and eggs taste together when fried like this,” Minato praised.
He couldn’t have imagined combining chilli and eggs this way, let alone frying them together so straightforwardly.
“Yes, chili fried eggs are delicious,” Mokutsuki said, smiling warmly, as he stopped reminiscing and took a bite.
“Mmm, delicious.”
The three chatted while eating, eventually discussing the sealing technique Mokutsuki was learning.
“Mokutsuki, can you perform the One-Finger Seal now?” Kushina asked.
Mokutsuki shook his head, saying, “It goes smoothly in my mind, but I can’t perform it properly. It feels like something is missing.”
Mokutsuki didn’t want to reveal that he had learned it in half a day, as it might draw too much attention. Kushina had said it took her a day to learn.
With ANBU always watching, he didn’t want to stand out too much.
He planned to act like he learned it in seven days—showing talent without being overly exceptional.
“That’s normal. Few can learn it in a day. You’re in a normal range,” Minato comforted, worried that Kushina’s earlier words might have affected Mokutsuki’s mindset.
“Yes, as long as you can learn it within a month, it’s fine,” Kushina added.
“Ask us if you have any questions. Don’t be shy,” Kushina said while eating.
Minato nodded in agreement.
“As long as you don’t mind,” Mokutsuki replied with a smile.
…
On Thursday afternoon in the southern forest of Konoha.
“Obito, eighty-five questions. Might Guy, thirty questions,” Mokutsuki announced the results of the afternoon’s battle.
“Only eighty-five!” Obito couldn’t hide his excitement.
He felt that the beating he took from Kakashi wasn’t in vain. This was the fewest questions he had received since the rules changed, indicating he had improved, getting hit less and landing more blows.
Obito planned to offset forty percent through training, do ten percent that day, and the remaining fifty percent in installments. After dividing it up, the number of questions didn’t seem too daunting.
“Thirty questions!” Might Guy clenched his fists in disbelief. This was the most questions he had received since the rule change.
Even maxing out the training offset, he still had to do twelve questions.
“Well done. Both of you have made great progress. If you choose to do installments today, there will be no interest,” Mokutsuki said with a smile.
Obito’s eyes lit up instantly, considering more installments.
Might Guy thought about it. No interest on installments was a free gift. It would be a waste not to take it, so he also asked Mokutsuki for instalments.
After training, Might Guy approached Shisui, hoping he could help with some intensive training.
Obito’s progress had made him feel a strong sense of urgency. Although he still had a significant advantage, the battle rules restricted Obito from using ninjutsu, limiting him to less than half his power.
Might Guy remember Mokutsuki’s words: battles are also a way to improve strength, not just training battles with Obito, but real, all-out fights.
“Full strength?” Shisui asked.
Might Guy nod to confirm?
“Then I’ll make my move,” Shisui warned.
Might Guy tensed, ready to explode with taijutsu.
But in the next instant, a large tree emerged from the ground, binding Might Guy.
As Might Guy wondered what ninjutsu Shisui had used, the tree suddenly disappeared, and Shisui was holding a kunai to his neck. The battle was over.
Might Guy realised what had happened—he had fallen for Shisui’s genjutsu.
“The path to becoming the strongest is still long,” Might Guy thought after being defeated in one move.
“Please, one more time!”
The road was long, but Might Guy would never give up!
