- Chapter 62 - The Eternal Friday
“Obito, did something good happen recently? You seem to be in a great mood today,” Rin Nohara asked curiously, noticing Obito’s unusual happiness.
“Of course, it’s because the good days are coming,” Obito replied with a grin.
Although the battle rules changed, making it seem like there were more questions, with the training offsets and instalment plans, the daily number of questions actually stayed the same.
Now that he was gradually getting more robust and with fewer questions and the ability to offset and install them, good days were indeed ahead.
“Obito, you finally remembered the date! Do you want to hang out tomorrow?” Rin invited, thinking Obito meant the weekend.
“The date… hang out tomorrow?” Obito looked confused, then realised a terrible possibility.
“Is today Friday again?” Obito asked Rin.
“Yes, isn’t that what you meant by good days?” Rin nodded and asked.
Obito was silent. He felt like yesterday was Sunday, so how could it be Friday again today?
In a daze, Obito remembered experiencing this scene several times.
“Am I trapped in a world with only Fridays and weekends?” Obito clutched his head, unable to accept the reality.
“What’s wrong, Obito? Why do you look so troubled?” Rin needed help understanding.
How could a student look pained about the weekend? Isn’t it great to have time off?
“It’s because I love school and studying so much that I feel sad about not being able to attend,” Obito explained forcefully.
There was no way he would tell Rin that he was afraid of accumulating too many questions over the weekend and being unable to finish them.
“Do you really love studying that much, Obito?” Rin was surprised, thinking this might relate to Obito’s recent progress.
“So, do you still want to hang out tomorrow?” Rin asked.
“Let’s go out tonight!” Obito replied.
With the new rules, he needed more energy to play over the weekend.
Training almost all day and doing questions until evening left him exhausted.
Whenever he thought about how Guy trained even outside their scheduled sessions, Obito felt a chill. What kind of body and willpower did that take?
“Doesn’t Guy ever get tired?” Obito wondered as he looked at Guy, who was busy asking questions.
“I hope there will be interest-free installments over the weekend too,” Obito thought of yesterday and silently prayed to the benevolent sage Mokutsuki.
After school, Obito went to the training ground as usual, arriving last.
Mokutsuki gathered the three and started assigning tasks.
“Guy, kick that tree with all your strength,” Mokutsuki said, pointing to a sturdy tree.
Guy nodded and approached the tree, unleashing a powerful whirlwind kick.
With a crack, the tree fell, cleanly cut by Guy’s kick.
“My strength can break a tree now,” Guy was surprised.
He had thought it was cool when Mokutsuki kicked a tree down so quickly and hadn’t expected to do it himself so soon.
Next, Mokutsuki used ninjutsu to create a large pit and filled it with water using Water Style, then said to Obito, “Obito, use your Great Fireball with all your strength on the water pit.”
Following Mokutsuki’s instructions, Obito formed the seals and expelled a massive fireball, instantly evaporating the water and leaving only scorched earth.
“That’s the power of my Fire Style,” Obito’s eyes widened. The pit was several meters wide.
Three months ago, he couldn’t even evaporate a half-meter puddle with his tiny fireball.
Mokutsuki then took them through tree climbing, water walking, and various other training exercises.
Obito suddenly realised how much stronger he had become. The water walking training, which used to leave him drenched, now let him run freely without getting splashed.
He could climb the tallest trees effortlessly, melt ice chunks the size of his head at will, and perform Great Fireball and Dragon Flame techniques easily.
Finally, Mokutsuki gave Obito and Guy a mock test.
“Sixty points? This is my score?” Obito was more shocked by the score than by the fireball evaporating the water pit.
It was his first time scoring thirty points on a test. Sixty points was an unprecedented high score.
“Fifty-four points!” Guy clutched his test paper, tears of joy streaming down his face.
He felt the same as Obito—such a high score seemed unreal.
Obito couldn’t help but ask, “Sensei Mokutsuki, are you sure you’re not the Sage of Six Paths?”
All the hard work hadn’t been in vain. Everything had paid off.
Nature transformation, ninjutsu, taijutsu, chakra control, and even theory—Obito felt stronger in every way, significantly so.
At this moment, Obito felt it didn’t matter if he had to do questions every day and train all weekend because the gains were enormous.
Continuing like this, he may become Hokage one day.
“Speaking so sweetly, are you hoping for interest-free installments today too?” Mokutsuki asked with a smile.
“Hehe, it’d be great if tomorrow could be interest-free too,” Obito chuckled.
Although doing questions didn’t seem like a big deal now, doing fewer was still better.
“Dream on. The special benefit was only for yesterday,” Mokutsuki said, tapping Obito’s head with his fingers.
The sudden training summary was meant to show his disciples their progress, motivating them further.
Timely positive feedback was crucial, and Mokutsuki planned to hold these training summaries periodically.
With their spirits lifted, Mokutsuki didn’t waste the opportunity and gave each disciple his handwritten calligraphy.
[You gifted your disciple Uchiha Obito your calligraphy. Due to your disciple’s immense gratitude, you received a critical reward: Earth Style: Earth Spear (Proficient Level)]
A wealth of experience on the Earth Spear technique flooded Mokutsuki’s mind, and he instantly grasped its various practical applications.
Mokutsuki nodded to himself, pleased with the reward.
This was a highly practical Earth-style ninjutsu, allowing him to harden any part of his body. It was versatile in both offence and defence.
Whether defending against close attacks or hardening his attacking limbs, it was beneficial.
“Stay true to oneself?” Obito pondered the phrase, unable to decipher any particular meaning, and eventually gave up.
“Hard work pays off.” Guy scratched his head, roughly understanding the message, and smiled.
Even without the training summary, he was always motivated.
“Those who gain the Way have more help, those who lose the Way have little help…” Shisui was also puzzled by Mokutsuki’s calligraphy.
What did it mean to gain or lose the Way?
