- Chapter 64 - The Reason to Get First Place
“Next, I still have to do twenty-five questions every day for ten consecutive days to pay off all the instalments,” Obito was calculating the number of questions he owed on his way to the southern training ground.
“I won’t finish even by the time vacation starts…” Obito scratched his head, feeling the pressure.
Not only did he have a lot of old debts, but he also accumulated new ones every day, making it tough to keep up.
Obito felt like he would be asking questions for the rest of his life if things continued this way.
When Obito arrived, Mokutsuki called both him and Guy over.
“Next week is the final exam. I’m going to change the training plan,” Mokutsuki announced.
“Change the training plan? There’s only one week left, isn’t it unnecessary?” Obito said nervously.
The last change had increased the questions from thirty per battle to over a hundred, making Obito a bit apprehensive.
“We’ll temporarily cancel the taijutsu battles and focus on individual training,” Mokutsuki explained, smiling at Obito. “Are you sure it’s unnecessary to change?”
“I think it’s essential,” Obito responded thoughtfully.
The battles and questions didn’t matter, but not adding new questions from battles was crucial for him.
“Mokutsuki-sensei, your decision is brilliant, a stroke of genius beyond words…” Obito used every compliment he knew, losing track of what he was saying.
“You’re overdoing it,” Mokutsuki said, knocking Obito on the head. “One more thing: although there won’t be any battles, you still have to complete your installments on time.”
Obito, rubbing his head, grinned, “I’ll make sure to finish them.”
If he could avoid asking questions by getting knocked on the head, he would gladly take it, even if it meant getting bumps all over.
“What do you think, Guy?” Mokutsuki asked.
Obito nervously looked at Guy, fearing he might say something unfavourable.
“I think it’s great too!” Guy quickly replied, worried that Mokutsuki might misunderstand.
Guy had held back because Obito spoke first; no decent person would enjoy doing questions.
Obito sighed in relief and gave Guy a thumbs-up, smiling.
Guy nodded, flashing a bright smile and giving a thumbs-up in return.
They had reached a consensus.
“Train hard. This week, I won’t interfere with you. Train however you like and leave whenever you want,” Mokutsuki said with a smile.
“That’s awesome!” Obito felt like Mokutsuki was glowing.
“Shisui, come here for a moment,” Mokutsuki called Shisui over from his training.
Shisui paused and walked over.
“After a month of intense training, your body has become much stronger. You can start learning the new Shunshin technique,” Mokutsuki said.
For the past month, Shisui had focused solely on physical training, significantly improving his physique.
With the secret medicine from the system healing his body and removing hidden injuries, Mokutsuki had pushed Shisui to his limits daily.
Given Shisui’s natural talent for Shunshin, Mokutsuki decided it was time to teach him Soru.
Hearing that it was the Shunshin technique Mokutsuki had mentioned earlier, Obito and Guy couldn’t help but pay attention.
“Didn’t you say you had to be the top of the grade in the practical exam to learn it?” Obito asked.
“This is a reward for Shisui’s previous achievements. Besides, do you think Shisui won’t get first place?” Mokutsuki replied with a smile.
Obito had to agree. Shisui would dominate the first year, much like he would dominate Obito’s grade if he were there.
With Shisui around, the practical exam results were already decided before the test even started.
Mokutsuki grabbed Shisui and instantly used Soru to appear several meters away.
Seeing the seemingly instantaneous movement, Obito couldn’t help but feel envious.
If he mastered such a Shunshin technique, it would be so cool.
He could enter the classroom and instantly appear at his seat, startling the teacher by appearing instantly on the podium.
He could also help old ladies and grandpas walk faster, letting them experience the feeling of the wind.
“I must get first place in the practical exam and show Rin how strong I’ve become, so that annoying Kakashi won’t look down on me anymore,” Obito vowed silently.
He had been taunted by Kakashi too many times and needed to prove himself.
“So fast! If I master this Shunshin technique, I might have a chance to defeat Kakashi!” The guy thought, watching Mokutsuki’s swift movement.
His speed was fast for Obito, but fell short against Kakashi.
Guy believed that mastering this Shunshin technique would give him a chance to catch Kakashi off guard, even if he couldn’t defeat him outright.
“To defeat Kakashi, I must get this Shunshin technique. I must get first place in the practical exam!”
Guy was already fired up, eager to skip the week and the theoretical exam to jump straight into the practical exam.
Seeing Obito and Guy’s motivation, Mokutsuki nodded internally. This was precisely the effect he wanted.
Sometimes, setting specific training content was less effective than letting the students take the initiative.
With the Shunshin technique as a reward, there was no lack of motivation.
Plus, with a training fanatic like Guy around, there was no worry that Obito would slack off without supervision.
Could Obito train less diligently while watching his classmate and competitor, Guy, train intensely?
“This Shunshin technique is called Soru. The main difficulty lies in multiple chakra bursts in a short time to strengthen the body for high-speed movement,” Mokutsuki began teaching Shisui the Shunshin technique.
In the world of One Piece, Soru involved stepping on the ground multiple times in an instant to generate the reaction force for high-speed movement.
Mokutsuki found it exaggerated but plausible, given the physical prowess in that world.
The Naruto version of Soru, modified by the system, was more fitting for ninjas. If renamed, it could pass as a native taijutsu technique.
In the Naruto version, Soru relied not on the reaction force from stepping but on a unique chakra technique that enhanced the legs multiple times during rapid steps, achieving high speed.
It was clear that the core of the Naruto version was the unique chakra technique, very ninja-like.
“Multiple enhancements in a short time?” Shisui was surprised; it was his first time hearing of such a technique.
No wonder Mokutsuki had him train his body for a month. The previous Shunshin techniques only required a single enhancement, which was tiring enough if overused. This Soru sounded far more advanced.
Shisui was eager to start training. Mastering this Shunshin technique would significantly boost his speed.
“Don’t stop following the book. This is a critical moment. Afterward, you can enjoy explosive updates,” Mokutsuki reminded everyone.
