- Chapter 69 - Training Task Settlement
“Will the candidate’s Might Guy and Uchiha Obito please enter the arena to prepare for the exam.”
As everyone expected, the final contenders for the grade’s practical exam first place were Might Guy and Obito.
Might Guy had defeated last exam’s top student, Hyuga Homura, while Obito displayed his formidable strength against other contenders.
“Obito, good luck.” Rin Nohara, watching from the sidelines, cheered with her tiny fists clenched.
“Rin, just watch. I’ll win.” Obito waved confidently at Rin with a smile.
This time, he was determined to claim the first place.
To strengthen himself, he endured considerable hardship while training under that annoying Kakashi.
A month of nature transformation and ninjutsu practice, a month of taijutsu strengthening – Obito was no longer the boy who couldn’t perform ninjutsu because of taijutsu attacks.
“Mokutsuki-sensei, watch how much I’ve improved!” Obito noticed Mokutsuki also arrived at the exam site.
“I will be the first!” Might Guy smiled brightly, his teeth shining under the sunlight.
When it came to confidence, he would always keep to Obito.
Even when he failed the Ninja Academy entrance exam, he still believed he would become the strongest!
“And with Mokutsuki-sensei watching, I can’t afford to lose.” The guy thought to himself.
He had always remembered Mokutsuki’s kindness. Mokutsuki had once said that improving his strength would be the best way to repay him, and Guy wanted to show Mokutsuki his best abilities.
“Let’s see. Practical exams aren’t like our training sessions where you couldn’t use ninjutsu.” Obito formed the confrontation seal.
“Let’s see whose youth burns more fiercely.” Guy also formed the confrontation seal according to the rules.
Watching the two form the confrontation seal, Mokutsuki mentally calculated the outcome of the match.
The two were closely matched in strength. Although Obito’s taijutsu was inferior to Guy’s, Obito knew two Fire Release jutsus, whereas Guy only knew the basic three techniques.
However, Mokutsuki believed Guy had a slightly higher chance of winning.
Guy, though appearing a bit goofy, remained remarkably calm during battles, whereas Obito tended to be more distracted and easily sidetracked.
So, even if their strengths were close, Mokutsuki favored Guy to win.
“Begin!” Shortly after the confrontation seal, the proctor announced the start of the battle.
“Leaf Whirlwind!”
As soon as the proctor’s voice fell, Guy dashed forward and executed his most proficient taijutsu kick at Obito.
Having been on the receiving end of this kick numerous times, Obito was well-prepared and quickly dodged to the side, evading the attack.
Simultaneously retreating, Obito swiftly threw several shurikens at Guy.
Guy, anticipating Obito’s tactics, was forced to dodge backward due to Obito’s accurate shuriken throwing.
“Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!” Wasting no time after gaining distance, Obito immediately formed the hand seals and unleashed his most formidable Fire Release technique.
Whoosh!
A giant fireball, as tall as two people formed and rushed toward Guy.
“Having a clan ninja background is advantageous. Even before graduating, you can learn such powerful jutsus.” A student watching the massive fireball couldn’t help but show envy.
He was also in the fourth year but had only learned the basic three techniques taught by the school.
“Ninjutsu isn’t easy to learn. Even if given the scroll, you might not be able to master it.” A ninja’s second-generation student beside him countered.
His family wasn’t from a ninja clan, but his parents were ninjas, and he had only mastered the three basic techniques so far.
“The level of this Fire Release isn’t something a student, or even a Genin, should be capable of!” A Chunin instructor who knew Fire Release couldn’t help but exclaim.
The power of his own Fire Release techniques was on par with this.
“Yes, indeed. As expected of a student from the Uchiha clan.” Another instructor nodded in agreement.
As the fireball rushed towards Guy, he quickly retreated to the side, about to escape the fireball’s range.
Obito immediately threw several shurikens to block Guy’s escape route, knowing the fireball couldn’t change direction.
To Obito’s surprise, Guy managed to block all the shurikens with a kunai and successfully escaped before the fireball exploded.
“Good thing Obito’s shuriken skills aren’t as good as Shisui’s, or I’d be in trouble.” Guy breathed heavily, feeling relieved.
Shisui’s shuriken skills had given him a lot of trouble during their fights.
After experiencing Shisui’s pressure, dealing with Obito was just right.
“Fireball Jutsu is still too difficult to hit someone with. I should’ve used Dragon Fire.” Obito felt a bit regretful.
He thought Dragon Fire might have been better, but he had won the Junior Ninjutsu Tournament with Fireball Jutsu. Obito felt using Fireball Jutsu to win the grade’s practical first place would be more meaningful.
But there was no time for Obito to reflect. Guy, seizing the opportunity, surged forward with chakra-enhanced legs.
“Leaf Whirlwind!”
Guy executed his most proficient taijutsu kick again.
“Guy, your speed isn’t as fast as Kakashi’s Body Flicker.” Obito dodged Guy’s attack and couldn’t help but show a smug smile.
He felt Guy’s taijutsu wasn’t that difficult to deal with.
Obito then attempted to engage Guy in taijutsu combat.
He quickly realized he had overestimated himself. He was outmatched in both strength and speed, quickly finding himself on the defensive, barely managing to dodge with his excellent footwork.
“Uchiha Obito may have good Fire Release, but Might Guy’s taijutsu is also excellent. If this continues, Obito will lose.” An instructor noticed Obito’s flaw.
Not leveraging his strengths and engaging in taijutsu with Guy was a losing battle.
Isao Ikeya smiled without saying anything. Both were his students, and he didn’t mind who won as the bonus was secure.
As the match proceeded as he had predicted, Mokutsuki remained calm.
It didn’t matter who won; both had training tasks to complete. More than the winner, he was curious about the rewards of the task settlement.
“Leaf Great Whirlwind!”
The guy unleashed his most potent kick yet, surpassing all previous attempts.
Guy’s sudden burst of speed caught Obito off guard. Unable to dodge, he was kicked several meters away.
“The grade’s practical exam is over. The final winner is Might Guy!” The proctor announced the end of the term exam.
As the exam concluded, Mokutsuki’s system also started the settlement process for the training tasks.
