- Chapter 76 - The Bathroom is Not a Place for Battle
“Special training for the soon-to-graduate students and the outstanding students…”
Hiruzen Sarutobi thought for a moment and said, “Mokutsuki, I think you’re underestimating your own abilities. How about this? In addition to your training plan, let’s extend an invitation to this year’s graduates. If they’re interested, they can join your training program.”
Hiruzen smiled and asked Mokutsuki, “What do you think, Mokutsuki?”
“Since Lord Third recognizes my abilities so highly, I’ll do my best,” Mokutsuki replied respectfully.
Mokutsuki didn’t mind having more students. He would love to teach hundreds of students a day.
According to Mokutsuki’s theory, the number of students during a lesson affects the teaching rewards. This is why he received rewards when teaching at the Ninja Academy but not when teaching only Obito and the others.
If he gathered all the fourth-year students, added outstanding students from other grades, and included some graduated Genin, he could easily reach over three hundred students.
Mokutsuki wanted to see if teaching two hundred students would yield better rewards.
“If you handle this training well and improve the students’ and Genin’s abilities, you won’t have to wait until the year is over. As soon as the training ends, you can be promoted to Special Jonin,” Hiruzen said with a smile.
If Mokutsuki could consistently replicate the results of Class 1-A, Hiruzen wouldn’t hesitate to replace the head of the teachers’ division with Mokutsuki.
However, if that time came, he would have to discuss Mokutsuki’s status with his old friend Danzo.
Ninja Academy teachers could be members of the Root, but the head of the teachers’ division couldn’t be.
“I’ll inform the Ninja Academy to cooperate with your efforts. You’ll be in charge of this project,” Hiruzen stated.
Mokutsuki expressed his gratitude and then headed to the backyard to begin training Asuma.
“Mokutsuki-sensei, are you really organizing special training?” Asuma asked curiously.
He had overheard the conversation between Mokutsuki and Hiruzen.
“Since Lord Third trusts me so much, I can’t let him down,” Mokutsuki replied with a smile.
“I think the old man just wants to make you work hard. An entire grade of students, plus graduates, teaching so many people must be exhausting,” Asuma said, feeling indignant on Mokutsuki’s behalf.
“And he didn’t even mention how you’ll be paid during the training. If you get the same salary as usual, you’ll be losing out.”
Hearing Asuma’s words, Mokutsuki thought that if Asuma were one of his disciples, his trust level would be high, given how he was already defending Mokutsuki against Hiruzen.
“I didn’t become a teacher for the money. I just want to help the students improve,” Mokutsuki replied with a smile.
If anyone else had said that, Asuma would have thought they were pretentious.
But coming from Mokutsuki, it felt natural.
If Mokutsuki were only in it for the money, he could slack off instead of going to such lengths to train him.
“If you’re really organizing this special training, I’ll bring my teammates to learn from you,” Asuma said, intending to support Mokutsuki. He had just graduated as a Genin this year.
To be honest, Asuma felt that while Mokutsuki’s combat ability might not match that of a Jonin, his teaching ability far surpassed his Jonin sensei.
Every weekend training session with Mokutsuki left him with significant gains.
Training with Mokutsuki for a month would surely yield much more than their usual training.
…
“Kakashi, let’s have a youthful and passionate match!”
“I get that, but can you not come in while I’m bathing next time?” Kakashi, lying in the bathtub, said, looking at Might Guy, who had suddenly appeared.
He was really fed up with how Guy always showed up at the most inconvenient times.
“Since I was training during the day, I had to come at this time,” Guy explained.
“Can you leave first?” Kakashi asked, feeling a headache as Guy stood there explaining.
It seemed like Rin was his only regular friend among the few he had.
Guy finally left, but not before curiously looking back at the door, prompting Kakashi to throw a bottle at him.
“Next time, I’ll set traps at the bathroom door!” Kakashi warned after finishing his bath.
Guy ignored Kakashi’s words and, clenching his fists with enthusiasm, said, “Kakashi, let’s have an all-out fight this time.”
“This time, my strength is different. If you underestimate me, you’ll lose.”
“Let’s go to the yard. I hope your strength matches your words,” Kakashi said calmly.
“I got first place in the Ninja Academy this time, don’t underestimate me,” Guy said, giving a thumbs-up and laughing.
“Isn’t that something anyone can get just by participating?” Kakashi, undefeated in Ninja Academy exams, said indifferently.
They went to the yard, exchanged glances, and started their battle.
“Konoha Great Whirlwind!”
Knowing Kakashi’s strength, Guy immediately used the latest chakra burst technique he had learned to close in and deliver a whirlwind kick quickly.
Although he hadn’t fully mastered Soru, he could use its technique to boost his speed.
“Hmm? This speed…”
Kakashi had expected Guy to move slowly. Unable to dodge, he blocked Guy’s kick with his arm and was pushed back several steps.
Not giving Kakashi a chance to counter, Guy pressed the attack, aiming to keep up an intense pace to prevent Kakashi from using any ninjutsu.
But Kakashi wasn’t Obito. Guy was shocked to find that he wasn’t gaining an advantage in their taijutsu clash and was gradually being pushed back.
“Konoha Whirlwind!”
Regaining control, Kakashi kicked Guy into the air with a whirlwind kick, then used the Body Flicker Technique to place a kunai at Guy’s neck.
“Your Konoha Whirlwind is a bit off,” Guy pointed out honestly.
“As long as it wins the fight,” Kakashi said, putting away the kunai.
Just by watching Guy a few times, he couldn’t perfectly replicate the move.
Kakashi had just wanted to get back at Guy for barging into the bathroom, but seeing that Guy wasn’t bothered by being beaten at his own game, he felt a bit at a loss for words.
“As expected of my rival, you’re too strong,” Guy said proudly.
This time, Kakashi defeated him without even using much ninjutsu.
Kakashi looked at Guy, unsure what to say. Someone who didn’t know better might think Guy had won.
“Next time I challenge you, I’ll be even stronger!” Guy, feeling fired up from their match, said goodbye to Kakashi and ran off to train more.
“Guy’s strength has increased a lot recently…” Kakashi thought as he watched Guy’s retreating figure.
Guy’s performance today had surprised him. That initial kick had genuinely caught him off guard, something that wouldn’t have happened before.
