- Chapter 77 - Might Guy's New Task
“Guy, you seem to be in great shape today,” Mokutsuki said, arriving at the usual training spot on Sunday morning and finding Might Guy already there, doing deep squats with a large stone.
“I think you were right, Mokutsuki-sensei. Battling strong opponents head-on helps transform training results into real strength. So last night…” Guy began, recounting his challenge against Kakashi the previous night and his defeat.
“I’m glad you took my words to heart,” Mokutsuki said with a smile. “As long as you keep working hard, I believe you’ll surpass your rival and become the strongest because you are a genius of hard work!”
“A genius of hard work,” Guy repeated, feeling the phrase suited him perfectly.
“With your guidance, Mokutsuki-sensei, I’m confident in my path to becoming the strongest!” Guy said with a bright smile.
Reflecting on the changes in himself, Guy realized just how vital Mokutsuki was.
After being Mokutsuki’s disciple for a while, even the somewhat dense Guy and Obito noticed something was off.
Mokutsuki’s displayed strength wasn’t that of an ordinary Chunin teacher.
But Guy didn’t care. He could feel Mokutsuki genuinely cared about him.
Whenever the disciples showed significant improvement, Mokutsuki seemed even happier than they were.
Besides Mokutsuki, Guy had only seen such behavior from his father.
“With your teaching, Mokutsuki-sensei, I’ll eventually defeat Kakashi!” Guy said confidently.
[Disciple Might Guy has set a training task]
[Training Task: Defeat Kakashi]
[Reward: Depends on task completion and growth during the task]
Seeing the training task finally appear, Mokutsuki nodded to himself. His approach was correct. He had primarily figured out the mechanisms for triggering training tasks.
It had been over two months since the first training task was triggered. Through constant probing, Mokutsuki had learned some of the conditions.
Training tasks were mainly based on the disciples’ subjective desires. In cases like Guy and Obito, they were easier to trigger, while Shisui was much more complicated.
Shisui was too dominant among his peers, with no one to challenge him. He had no targets to surpass, easily taking first place.
Mokutsuki had tried to have Shisui trigger a training task but had no success despite many attempts.
Mokutsuki guessed that training tasks might not be able to trigger long-term goals. Otherwise, with Shisui’s personality, a task to change the Uchiha’s fate would be possible.
Or the trust level wasn’t high enough. Trust Level 3 could trigger training tasks, so trust Level 4 could bring new changes.
Even without training tasks, Mokutsuki valued Shisui highly.
Shisui’s rapid chakra growth, possibly due to his more excellent talent and more extensive training, resulted in more chakra returning to Mokutsuki than Obito and Guy combined.
Shisui was also the only disciple to trigger the strength growth reward so far.
Mokutsuki estimated it would be a while before Obito and Guy could trigger it.
Before long, Shisui arrived for training as well.
With both of them there, Mokutsuki gathered them to start teaching Soru.
Obito arrived last, seeing Guy and Shisui learning Soru, feeling envious.
But remembering the cost and difficulty of the taijutsu challenge ticket, Obito felt a headache.
“To dodge quickly while maintaining speed,” Obito thought, practicing nature transformation and pondering how to solve this problem.
If he couldn’t solve the previous issues, another attempt would just mean more test papers.
“I’ll run at night for extra training. It should help,” Obito decided, planning to strengthen his legs.
More muscular legs would not only increase his running speed but also reduce fatigue when using chakra.
…
With the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, supporting it, the summer training camp was quickly organized.
All fourth-year students, unless they had unique circumstances, were to return to school for the training. Outstanding students from other grades could decline the invitation.
The main target of this training was not the recent graduates or other outstanding students but the soon-to-graduate fourth-year students.
The Ninja Academy sent teachers to notify and communicate with parents directly.
In this harsh ninja world, Mokutsuki thought no parent would want their child to be weaker.
Even though Konoha’s textbooks painted ninjas as noble, the reality was that being a ninja was extremely dangerous.
The news of the Third Kazekage’s disappearance had spread throughout Konoha. Anyone with some understanding of the current ninja world knew that war was inevitable.
Considering the previous conflicts with the Hidden Cloud, Konoha was likely to stay in it.
Mokutsuki decided which outstanding students from each grade to include, picking eight from each grade based on their practical scores.
In the first year, his Class 1-A was dominant, so four of his students were selected: Shisui, Anko, Kotetsu, and Izumo.
Anko was bewildered when the teacher came to her house, informing her of a month-long summer training.
She hadn’t even enjoyed a week of vacation, and now she had to return to school.
Anko was relieved to find that the summer training was only practical, with no theory classes, and taught by her favorite teacher, Mokutsuki.
Most outstanding students accepted the invitation.
However, only a dozen recent graduates applied for the training.
Mokutsuki understood this, as most people would trust their post-graduation mentors over a Ninja Academy Chunin teacher.
Having a suspicious superior was troublesome.
Because of the summer training, Mokutsuki had a special report session with Danzo detailing the training program.
This was a significant event, the first summer training held by the Ninja Academy, even notifying recent graduates.
Danzo seemed pleased with Mokutsuki’s work, rewarding him with Root’s secret training medicine in his reply.
In his reply, Danzo instructed Mokutsuki to perform as well as possible, aiming for the Third Hokage to promote him to Special Jonin. The rest was meaningless PUA content.
Mokutsuki thought that while the original owner might have been affected, he only felt more disdain for Danzo.
Even the medicine given as a reward felt unappealing, being from Danzo.
