- Chapter 90 - The Elder with Tubes Is Not to Be Trifled With
In Mokutsuki’s memory, the Third Shinobi World War was incredibly chaotic, with everyone attacking each other and then ganging up on Konoha.
Kumogakure attacked Sunagakure and Konoha, Iwagakure attacked Konoha while backstabbing Kumogakure, and Sunagakure, after repelling Kumogakure, seeing everyone fighting Konoha, also joined in.
Kirigakure, rarely participating in the wars, saw the commotion and, not wanting to feel left out, started attacking Konoha as well.
With the disappearance of the Kazekage, Sunagakure also decided to attack Konoha.
The barbarian Kumogakure is too hateful, so let’s attack Konoha.
In short, if you needed to know who to fight, attacking Konoha was the default option.
During the Third Shinobi World War, Konoha was almost always the target.
If it weren’t for the appearance of the golden flash, Minato Namikaze, the outcome of the Third Shinobi World War would have been uncertain.
“Iwagakure’s ten thousand ninja surrounding the Third Raikage, Yahiko being forced to death by Danz? and Hanzo leading to Nagato’s descent into darkness, Uchiha Madara orchestrating Obito’s descent into darkness, and Might Duy opening the Eighth Gate to take down the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist…”
Mokutsuki recalled the significant events of the Third Shinobi World War, feeling the danger of the ninja world.
If things proceeded according to the original story, Rin Nohara would soon die on Kakashi’s Chidori, leading to Obito’s descent into darkness, and Might Guy’s father, Might Duy, would open the Eighth Gate and ultimately sacrifice himself to protect Guy.
Shisui, on the other hand, seemed to have emerged unscathed from the Third Shinobi World War, earning the title “Shisui of the Body Flicker.”
But since Shisui awakened his Sharingan during the war, Mokutsuki believed that something must have happened that Shisui didn’t want to see.
“Time for development is running out…”
Mokutsuki remembered that shortly before Obito’s descent into darkness, Kakashi had just been promoted to j?nin at the age of twelve.
Kakashi and Obito were the same age, and now Obito was only eight years old. This meant that if Mokutsuki wanted to change everything, he had only four years left to develop.
The incident with Might Guy was also during the heat of the war, so the time wouldn’t be much different.
Guy’s situation was less severe since it was just a matter of bad luck encountering the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. With three to four years of development, Mokutsuki should be able to handle it.
Obito’s situation was more troublesome.
On the surface, it appeared to be an everyday wartime tragedy, but it was actually an artificial conspiracy.
To change Obito’s descent into darkness, his opponents weren’t Iwagakure and Kirigakure ninjas but the hidden Uchiha Madara and Black Zetsu.
Optimistically, his opponents were just an older man who needed tubes to survive and a blob of black goo.
Pessimistically, his opponents were the reincarnation of Indra’s chakra, the only living Rinnegan wielder in the ninja world, Uchiha Madara, and the third child of Kaguya ?tsutsuki, the progenitor of chakra.
And he, Mokutsuki, was just a ch?nin teacher at the Ninja Academy.
“Mokutsuki, what are you daydreaming about?”
Kushina’s voice snapped Mokutsuki out of his thoughts.
Mokutsuki sighed and explained, “I was just thinking about whether the war would affect Konoha.”
“Konoha isn’t a pushover like Sunagakure. Anyone thinking of attacking Konoha better think twice about the consequences,” Kushina confidently said, trusting in Konoha’s strength.
“Your concerns aren’t unfounded. Once a war starts, anything can happen,” Minato said seriously.
Minato’s view was even more pessimistic than Mokutsuki’s. While Mokutsuki was pondering if the war might affect Konoha, Minato believed it was inevitable that the war would spread to Konoha.
In times of peace, the title of the number one ninja village could deter troublemakers. But once a major war broke out, the top-ranked Konoha would become a target for ambitious ninja villages wanting to make a name for themselves.
Claiming to be strong was needed, but beating the number one village, Konoha, would prove their strength.
After Minato and Kushina finished eating, Mokutsuki left the main area to train his disciples.
He first spent some time teaching Guy Soru, then oversaw today’s race between Obito and Guy.
Once again, Guy maintained a slight advantage and won, but neither of them broke their previous limits.
Mokutsuki’s rule was that each new record set during the race would become the new limit for the next race, making it difficult to set new records constantly. Mokutsuki was satisfied with this.
This training method was indeed effective, as evidenced by Guy’s increased proficiency.
Mokutsuki called Shisui, who was practicing and said, “Stop practicing Soru for now. Today, I’ll teach you a new Fire Release jutsu.”
“This jutsu is called Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Flower Nail Crimson, a B-rank Fire Release with significant destructive power at close to mid-range,” Mokutsuki explained.
If the student were Obito, Mokutsuki would have taught the simpler Phoenix Sage Fire first, then the advanced Phoenix Sage Flower Nail Crimson.
But Shisui’s learning ability was strong, so Mokutsuki wasn’t worried about Shisui’s learning speed.
Mokutsuki led Shisui to an open area.
“Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Flower Nail Crimson!”
Mokutsuki formed the seals and expelled a large flame, simultaneously throwing over a dozen shuriken that merged with the flames, transforming into fiery projectiles targeting a wooden dummy.
The shuriken, embedded in flames, struck the dummy, severing its arms and embedding in its body. The fire ignited the dummy, reducing it to ashes.
The Phoenix Sage Flower Nail Crimson was superior to the Phoenix Sage Fire because it incorporated shuriken.
The sharp shuriken combined with the burning flames created high damage that was hard to dodge at close range, causing significant injury if hit.
**[You have taught your disciple Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Flower Nail Crimson. Due to your disciple’s immense gratitude, you received a critical reward: Fire Release: Dragon Flame Bullet (Proficient Level)]**
Mokutsuki nodded, pleased with the critical hit.
The Dragon Flame Bullet was also a B-rank Fire Release jutsu, known for its wide attack range and intense flames, making it a powerful jutsu.
After demonstrating and explaining the jutsu several times, Mokutsuki let Shisui practice.
“Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Flower Nail Crimson!”
Shisui mimicked Mokutsuki’s actions, expelling flames and throwing shuriken, which turned into fiery projectiles.
Since it was Shisui’s first attempt, not all shuriken were engulfed in flames.
Mokutsuki used his identification technique to check Shisui’s progress and saw that Shisui’s proficiency in the Phoenix Sage Flower Nail Crimson was already at thirty-two. With a bit more practice, he would master it.
As expected, Shisui’s learning ability was strong, and with Mokutsuki’s teaching skills, Shisui quickly learned the Phoenix Sage Flower Nail Crimson.
Two days later, Obito felt ready to take on the challenge again and requested another attempt from Mokutsuki.
