- Chapter 98 - Thoughts on Taking a Disciple
When Kushina lifted the cover, something unique happened. As soon as the cover was lifted, a red glow seemed to emanate from the dish. However, upon closer inspection, it appeared there was no actual glow; it was simply the vibrant red color of the dish.
Looking at the bright red maple tofu, Kushina swallowed and said, “Mokutsuki, you didn’t say you were going to use so much chili. It looks really spicy!”
She had thought Mokutsuki might add an extra chili pepper, but seeing the color of the map tofu, she felt like the entire dish was all about the spiciness.
“This dish is indeed quite spicy, but it’s not just spicy. It also has flavors of aroma, heat, crispiness, and numbing sensations,” Mokutsuki explained.
Minato, hearing that the dish had so many flavors, was the first to take a spoonful and put it in his mouth.
“Spicy!” Minato’s first reaction upon eating the map tofu was the intense spiciness, an indescribable heat. Mokutsuki’s idea of a bit of spiciness was highly spicy for him. The spiciness was so fierce that Minato felt like he had entered a world filled with flames, with fire erupting everywhere.
But the map tofu wasn’t just about the spiciness. Soon, a burst of various flavors filled Minato’s mouth, immersing him in the deliciousness.
“Delicious!” Minato sincerely praised, then quickly scooped several more spoonfuls into his bowl and continued eating.
Seeing Minato eat so eagerly, Kushina knew the dish must be delicious, so she also took a bite.
It was indeed very numbing and spicy but also very flavorful. Kushina even tasted something that seemed like meat.
“It’s really delicious!” Kushina quickly scooped several spoonfuls into her bowl.
Although it was very spicy, it was so tasty that Kushina couldn’t stop herself from eating more.
After the meal, the delicious magical map tofu became the main topic of their post-dinner conversation.
When Mokutsuki listed the ingredients for the magical map tofu, Kushina asked, “Mokutsuki, did you forget an ingredient? Isn’t there meat in it?”
Kushina distinctly remembered tasting something that felt like meat.
“I tasted it too,” Minato nodded in agreement.
“It tastes like meat, but it’s not meat. It’s processed soybeans,” Mokutsuki explained, revealing the secret to the dish.
“Incredible! Soybeans that taste like meat!” Kushina found it excellent.
Minato also felt that Mokutsuki’s cooking skills were extraordinary. He had never heard of soybeans being made to taste like meat.
Since he still needed to train his disciples, Mokutsuki soon bid farewell to Minato and Kushina, saying he would show them the cooking process another time.
In the southern forest, Mokutsuki helped his disciples with their training as usual.
Shisui was practicing the Phoenix Sage Flower Nail Crimson technique, Might Guy was training his body and mastering the use of Soru, and Obito continued his efforts to master Soru.
As the training session was coming to an end, Obito asked, “Mokutsuki-sensei, how can I teach someone else a jutsu?”
“Why do you ask? Who are you trying to teach?” Mokutsuki inquired.
“My good friend Rin Nohara is also participating in the summer training, but she’s in Group B,” Obito explained what had happened that day.
“I thought I explained it pretty clearly, but Rin still didn’t understand,” Obito sighed.
Mokutsuki was speechless. From Obito’s description, Obito’s teaching skills were on par with Naruto’s. Teaching someone a jutsu like that was asking them to develop it on their own after seeing it once.
Mokutsuki had plenty of knowledge on how to be a competent teacher; after all, he was a trained educator. That was his professional expertise.
However, given Obito’s current performance, Mokutsuki felt that imparting this knowledge to Obito might not be very effective.
“You should focus on mastering your own jutsu first,” Mokutsuki said, knocking Obito on the head with his two fingers.
“Could it be that even the all-purpose Mokutsuki Sage has no solution?” Obito hung his head, disappointed.
But then Obito had a bright idea. If he couldn’t teach Rin, and if Mokutsuki couldn’t make him a great teacher, why not have Mokutsuki teach Rin directly?
“Actually, Rin’s grades aren’t great either. I think she really needs your guidance, Mokutsuki-sensei,” Obito suggested.
Hearing Obito’s words, Mokutsuki pondered.
The system currently had four disciple slots, with only one remaining. Giving it to Rin was out of the question.
However, he could take her on as a disciple in reality without confirming it in the system.
Mokutsuki saw two benefits to teaching Rin.
One was to motivate Obito better to train harder, and the other was the chance to convince Kakashi to become a disciple.
Kakashi, with his S-rank potential and rapid growth, was an excellent choice.
“Talk to Rin and see if she’s willing to come learn from me,” Mokutsuki said.
Hearing Mokutsuki’s agreement, Obito cheered excitedly.
He had only asked on a whim, knowing he couldn’t force Mokutsuki to teach Rin.
“As expected, Mokutsuki Sage is all-powerful!” Obito exclaimed joyfully.
The thought of training with Rin thrilled Obito.
He couldn’t wait for tomorrow to share the good news with her.
…
The following day, Ebisu arrived at the training ground as usual for his exceptional training.
“Why does it feel like everyone’s staring at me?” Ebisu muttered, feeling the gazes from all around.
He had gained quite a bit of attention after being the only one promoted last time, but his poor performance in Group A yesterday should be acceptable without this much attention.
After all, it was understandable for him to lose to the original Group A members since he had just moved up.
“Ebisu, who would’ve thought you, who look so serious on the outside, would play such tricks in secret,” Genma Shiranui said, giving Ebisu a playful punch on the chest.
They were both students of the fourth-year, class six, and had a good relationship.
Hearing Genma’s words, Ebisu had a bad feeling, though he didn’t know exactly what had happened.
“Let me see that Illusionary Seduction Technique at noon. I want to test my weakness,” Genma joked.
“Illusionary Seduction Technique?” Ebisu’s heart sank as he began to grasp the situation.
“Don’t pretend with me. Our relationship doesn’t need pretense. Besides, everyone in all three groups knows about it now. Continuing to act innocent won’t do you any good.”
“It’s just an adult-oriented jutsu. Be bold and admit it,” Genma said.
“Adult-oriented jutsu… and everyone in all three groups knows?” Ebisu nearly fainted from shock.
“It wasn’t me who developed it. I only made a suggestion!” Ebisu felt like his academy life was waving goodbye to him.
