One Piece Admiral Silver Fox - Chapter 52
“So you accidentally awakened Observation Haki, which means you have strong talent. From now on, you can improve it through training or actual combat.”
Tsuru sipped her coffee, explaining the knowledge of the three types of Haki to Foxy without holding back.
“Yes.”
Foxy grinned widely, genuinely pleased.
“Since you came straight here after arriving, why not stay for dinner?”
Traveling from the Calm Belt branch to Marineford took a day, so it was already evening outside.
“Vice Admiral, I have friends at the academy who don’t have anyone like you or Sister Gion to visit. So…”
Foxy hesitated, looking at Tsuru with some apprehension.
“If you’ve already made plans, you should go. Come by whenever you have time.”
Tsuru smiled and nodded, not upset at all.
“Thank you, Vice Admiral.”
Foxy stood up, bowed, and then straightened. “I’ll be going now.”
“Go ahead.”
“Sister Gion, goodbye.”
At the door, Foxy turned and waved.
“Come play when you have time,” Gion replied with a smile and a wave.
“I will.”
As the door closed, Tsuru leaned back on the sofa, crossed her long legs, and thoughtfully closed her eyes.
“Who would have thought Foxy had such talent? In two months, he mastered Shave and awakened Observation Haki. I remember having a tough time awakening it myself.”
Gion sighed, her impression of Foxy very positive. His visit to see Tsuru right after returning showed he remembered her kindness and was polite. He had excellent talent and seemed to have no significant flaws. He was also very loyal.
“Sister, why are you frowning?”
Gion tilted her head, seeing Tsuru deep in thought.
“Clever boy.”
Tsuru smiled and shook her head at Gion. “I have some official duties to handle. You’ll take care of dinner.”
“What do you want to eat?”
“Anything is fine.”
Gion watched Tsuru leave, still puzzled.
Leaving Tsuru’s residence, Foxy clenched his fists in excitement. Not only had he awakened Observation Haki, but he had also learned about the three types of Haki.
Yes, Foxy’s visit to Tsuru was purposeful. He wanted to increase his presence and see if Tsuru would guide him. He knew deep down that he had Observation Haki, and mentioning his friends was a deliberate move to show his loyalty to them.
However, Foxy forgot who Tsuru was—she was the Navy’s strategist. His little tricks might not be noticeable at first, but over time, they became apparent. Yet, Tsuru didn’t mind his cleverness. She saw it as usual, given his experiences, and appreciated his loyalty and talent. She didn’t hesitate to guide him because she believed in his potential.
Walking down the street, Foxy pondered how to awaken Armament Haki. The best way was through combat or facing various dangers. With Shave already mastered, he planned to learn Geppo (Moonwalk) and see if he could go on a real adventure.
“Having someone to support you is convenient. I even impress myself.”
Looking at the hazy sky, Foxy felt a bit selfish. Tsuru’s guidance saved him a lot of time and prevented many mistakes. Foxy knew Haki training typically required military merit, similar to the Six Powers. To learn Haki, he would likely need to reach the rank of lieutenant or achieve significant military contributions, which was currently a tall order.
Thus, his previous efforts had been worthwhile.
Foxy saw Gasparde and Shuzo fighting on the training field at the Navy academy while Shuuen and Berry Good watched.
It wasn’t just Foxy who was working hard.
Seeing Foxy return, Shuuen waved him over.
Foxy continued Gasparde and Shuzo. He sat beside Shuuen and Berry Good, watching the fierce battle where each move was dangerous, and both used Shave skillfully.
“Why are you so late?”
Berry Good complained as he looked at Foxy.
“I was quick, considering. What are they doing?”
Foxy pointed at the fighting duo.
“They were bored, so they decided to spar,” Shuuen shrugged.
“How long have they been at it?”
“About twenty minutes,” Berry Good guessed.
“I didn’t expect Shuzo and Gasparde to get this strong. I thought I was the only one who improved,” Shuuen sighed. In the field, Gasparde fought Shuzo using only martial arts, without his abilities but was at a disadvantage. Shuzo was the strongest in terms of martial arts, even surpassing Foxy.
But slowly, Foxy noticed something different. Initially, he hadn’t paid much attention, but his expression changed as he observed more closely.
“Stop.”
Foxy stood up urgently, interrupting the fight.
After a final clash, Gasparde and Shuzo separated, both panting and looking at Foxy, puzzled.
“Do you want to spar with us?”
Gasparde clenched his fists, looking fiercely at Foxy.
“What was that covering your fists just now?”
Foxy was sure he had seen right. Even in the dim light, he could see under the streetlights that their fists were covered with a thin layer of a dark substance.
“You mean this?”
Shuzo raised his right fist, showing a skinny layer of dark gray substance that was hard to see without close observation. Without using his half-baked Observation Haki, Foxy might have missed it.
“I don’t know what it is, but I found that covering my fists with this warm current increases my attack power.”
Shuzo shrugged, pointing at Gasparde. “Gasparde has it too, but his is weaker.”
“What do you mean mine is weaker? We haven’t finished yet. Let’s continue.”
Gasparde glared, clearly unhappy.
“You two… you two… damn…”
Foxy looked at Gasparde and Shuzo in disbelief, cursing under his breath. They had awakened Armament Haki—Armament Haki!
How could there be such a vast difference between people?
Foxy had thought he was unique for awakening Haki, feeling a bit smug. But now, that pride was shattered.
Any sense of superiority vanished utterly.
It was a reminder not to underestimate anyone. Those who could become significant opponents or bosses in one’s fate were never ordinary people.
Being a boss alone meant they weren’t average; regular people couldn’t compare.
Shuzo could later trounce Luffy when he first entered the New World and could even overpower seasoned Vice Admiral Smoker. These points showed Shuzo’s future strength.
In the film, Gasparde didn’t show any Haki abilities, likely because Oda introduced Haki later. So Foxy needed to find out if Gasparde had Haki.
Maybe Foxy’s presence had changed things, causing those around him to evolve differently.
