Chapter 236: The Death of Whitebeard
When Solo suddenly appeared next to Whitebeard, all the members of the Whitebeard Pirate Group gathered in the inner square of Marineford.
They looked in the direction of Solo and Whitebeard, holding their breath involuntarily. An ominous premonition filled everyone’s hearts.
“Father!”
“Damn, it’s the Marines!”
“Stay away from Daddy!”
The pirates roared and rushed toward Solo, trying to stop his reckless behavior. However, even if these pirates used their fastest speed, they wouldn’t be able to catch up to him for a while. The captains of each squad grew even more anxious.
“Damn it!”
Marco couldn’t help but curse, flapping his wings of burning blue flame as he rushed towards Solo, trying to stop him. Whitebeard also sensed the danger but couldn’t move due to his old illness. His vision started to blur, and he couldn’t even see where Solo was.
Solo, however, didn’t hesitate. He aimed at Whitebeard’s neck, raising Ry?jin Jakka with one hand.
With Solo’s urging, hot flames burst from the handle of the blade, engulfing the entire blade. It turned into a “fire” blade. Solo then unleashed his Conqueror’s Haki, not because he doubted whether his slash could break through Whitebeard’s defense, but out of respect for Whitebeard.
Unfortunately, Whitebeard was a pirate. No matter how glorious his life had been, it couldn’t change that fact. Even someone like Roger, the Pirate King, indirectly caused pain for the civilians on the sea. His actions set off the era of powerful pirates, leaving hundreds of people living in fear every day.
“It’s over, Whitebeard.”
Cut!”
With Solo’s powerful shout, Ry?jin Jakka descended. It tried to slash through Whitebeard’s neck, trying to split his body.
The sword fell from Whitebeard’s body and crashed onto the ground. Whitebeard’s body trembled, and in that moment of clarity, he used his last strength to unleash his Shock Fruit power. He formed a fist, aiming to strike Solo with all his might.
Boom!
A deafening roar echoed in Solo’s ears as the air shattered before him. A powerful shockwave surged toward him.
“Even in death, he possesses such terrifying power. Truly, he is a remnant of the old era,” Solo murmured to himself as he swiftly defended against the shockwave with Ry?jin Jakka.
However, the force behind the shockwave was overwhelming, causing Solo to be forcefully propelled away from Marineford’s square.
Witnessing Solo being blown away by his own attack, Whitebeard could finally breathe a sigh of relief. If the Marine kid Solo were still on the battlefield, he would have gone after Ace and the others.
“Little ones!”
Whitebeard took a deep breath, using his last strength to give one final order to all the sons of the Whitebeard Pirate Group present. He ordered them to leave quickly, not seeking revenge and not sacrificing themselves in vain.
“I am a remnant of the old era, and the New World no longer has a ship to carry me! And…The great secret treasure exists!”
Just before Whitebeard took his final breath, he uttered those iconic words. This unexpected scene further shocked Sengoku. He hadn’t anticipated that Whitebeard would say such audacious things at the end. If the Marines hadn’t cut off the transmission of the Den Den Mushi, it could have led to even greater chaos.
However, the sight of Solo killing Whitebeard had a profound impact on everyone present. Their eyes widened, reflecting disbelief. No one could have imagined that Solo, a Marine newcomer,
would defeat and decapitate Whitebeard. Ace and Marco were left stunned.
“F—Father…”
Ace’s eyes lost their light gradually. He hadn’t expected his powerful and confident father, Whitebeard, to meet such an end. He died in Marineford, all because of Ace.
If Ace hadn’t needed rescuing, Whitebeard wouldn’t have ended up like this. If Ace hadn’t insisted on chasing Blackbeard, the entire Whitebeard Pirate Group wouldn’t have met this fate. Regret and frustration overwhelmed Ace as tears streamed down his face.
“I can… understand your feelings, Ace,” Marco’s voice came from behind.
Ace instinctively raised his head and looked at Marco’s figure. It wasn’t just Ace’s emotions; Marco felt he understood the sentiments of all the Whitebeard Pirates. He, too, was unwilling to accept Whitebeard’s death. He wished to rush forward and cut down Solo in vengeance for Father Whitebeard.
However, his remaining sanity reminded Marco of the truth—he was no match for Solo. Seeking revenge would only lead to more of their comrades dying in Marineford. Ace had been saved, and they had no reason to stay any longer. They had to leave.
“Let’s go, Ace. Father’s final order is for us to leave!”
Marco took a deep breath and shouted to the entire square. His words were not just directed at Ace but at every member of the Whitebeard Pirate Group. It was time to depart.
The captains of each squad wept, grieving for Whitebeard, but they understood Marco’s words were right. They could only obey Whitebeard’s final order and leave with Ace. Staying would only result in more pointless sacrifices.
Meanwhile, Whitebeard’s death ignited the morale of all the Marines. Sengoku quickly regained his composure.
Although the situation had exceeded his expectations, it was an unprecedented opportunity to eradicate the Whitebeard Pirate Group, especially considering Ace’s lineage as Roger’s son. They couldn’t let him escape.
“Follow the Whitebeard Pirates! Don’t let them get away!”
Sengoku’s order resounded with resolute determination.
