Chapter 278: Luffy is Still Alive
With Marco’s surrender, the entire Summit War came to an end. Dealing with the rest of the issues was easy.
The Marines were divided into two parts, one to treat the wounded and the other to control the remaining members of the Whitebeard Pirates.
Vice Admiral Onigumo took seastone into Marco’s hands, nullifying his fruit ability. Witnessing this, Sengoku took three steps in parallel and walked directly in front of Solo.
“The war is over,” said Sengoku slowly.
He expected Solo to have a violent reaction to this news, but to his surprise, he remained calm. He stood still, his expression composed. Slowly, he retracted his Zanpakuto into its scabbard.
Today, Solo understood Sengoku’s thinking perfectly. To him, whether the Whitebeard Pirates died or were imprisoned in Impel Down made no difference.
There was no need to worry about them. Whitebeard, who made the Marine Headquarters afraid, was dead, along with the captains of each team who were either dead or injured.
The most important victory was Solo’s direct eradication of the Blackbeard Pirates. None of the criminals who escaped from Impel Down survived.
The Marine Headquarters emerged as the biggest winner in this major war. As for Luffy, he may be important in some ways due to his heritage as the son of the revolutionary army’s Dragon.
However, in reality, Luffy was not the one who defeated Crocodile, wiped out CP9, or defeated Gecko Moria.
His bounty has not increased since he left the East Blue. He is not even considered a Supernova. The World Government hasn’t paid much attention to him.
Such minor characters, even if they are allowed to live, have no significant impact. They will continue to be locked up in Impel Down, which can be justified by Garp.
Otherwise, Sengoku is genuinely concerned that Garp might lose his sanity due to the war, becoming the next Zephyr. Even worse, if Garp and Zephyr were to join forces…
The World Government would be in big trouble. With these thoughts in mind, Solo nodded slightly, indicating that he fully understood Warring States’ actions.
Unexpectedly, his acceptance made Sengoku a little surprised.
“Solo, release Garp,” Sengoku said, taking a deep breath.
“The war is over. There’s no need for Garp to remain in the sky all the time.”
Solo didn’t refuse. With one hand, he drew his Zanpakuto and swung it forcefully, sending a crescent-shaped sword energy flying toward the Chibaku Tensei.
Rumble!
Accompanied by loud noises, visible cracks spread across the Chibaku Tensei.
In an instant, the cracks reached deep into the interior, causing the entire Chibaku Tensei to weaken. Garp, who had been trapped inside, was aware of all this. Feeling the changes, he clenched his fists even tighter.
With a powerful swipe, he cooperated with external forces to destroy the Earth Explosive Star that had trapped him. However, at that moment, Garp was unaware that the war had already ended, let alone that Solo had released him.
For a while, Garp was overcome with anger. He used Moon Steps to return to Marineford’s square in an instant, emanating an imposing aura of knowledge and strength.
He firmly locked onto Solo’s position in the square. Then, Garp kicked off the ground, propelling himself forward. He clenched his fist, channeling both his Conqueror’s Haki and Armament Haki.
With full force, he unleashed an unrestrained strike. In an instant, a thunderbolt descended from the sky, its roaring sound echoing throughout Marineford.
Many marines were taken aback, especially by the immense aura emanating from Garp. No one expected that Garp, who had returned, would strike once again.
Even Sengoku hadn’t anticipated such a turn of events. Almost instinctively, he wanted to stop Garp, but he was a step too late.
Garp, like a flash, appeared in front of Solo and threw a punch. The mighty force crushed Solo, overwhelming him completely.
Although Solo didn’t sense a sharp killing intent from the punch, he knew it was Garp’s full power. Being hit by such a blow would have serious consequences. Without hesitation, Solo met Garp’s fist with his palms.
Rumble!
Another sonic boom echoed as a shockwave engulfed the two of them, expanding in all directions.
Marineford’s square shattered once again. Sengoku’s eyes widened even further. He hadn’t expected that the collision between the two would have such a tremendous impact.
Boom!
In the end, Solo and Garp both took a step back.
“Vice Admiral Garp,” Solo said slowly, wanting to inform Garp that the war was over.
However, Garp shook his head without hesitation. “There’s nothing to say between us. If you want to harm Luffy, then step over me!”
But just as Garp was about to strike again, Sengoku’s fist struck him from behind, instantly knocking him to the ground.
“The war is over, Garp!”
Upon hearing the news, Garp froze for a moment. His attempt to rise came to an abrupt halt. The news of the war’s end left him momentarily overwhelmed, his mind blank.
The Summit War was over?!
What about Luffy?
How is Luffy doing now?
Was Luffy killed by Solo?
Is he already dead?
Could it be that Luffy is dead, and that’s why Solo released the Earth Explosive Star, allowing him to escape?!
For a moment, Garp felt his blood pressure rising. Until Solo spoke slowly.
“Luffy is still alive. The Whitebeard Pirates have announced their surrender. So, Vice Admiral Garp, the war is over.”
Solo’s voice reached Garp’s ears. However, he couldn’t make out the rest of the content clearly. All he knew was that Luffy was still alive. His grandson was still alive.
“Luffy is still alive…” Garp mechanically repeated those words.
And through his Color of Observation Haki, he confirmed that Luffy was indeed alive. Suddenly, a sense of relief washed over Garp’s heart.
Luffy… hadn’t died. That kid was still alive! Moreover, the major war was over. Although Luffy would be imprisoned in Impel Down, at least he wasn’t dead.
