One Piece Devouring Fruit - Chapter 16
Aburahamu Michion sat in a tub of hot water in a room aboard the Navy warship, feeling the strength coursing through his body, utterly bewildered.
“Why don’t I feel weak? Even if this isn’t seawater, it shouldn’t be like this.”
Aburahamu Michion needed clarification. He knew that Devil Fruit users would feel weak even in freshwater if submerged beyond a certain point.
But now, he felt no weakness at all.
There was no way for Aburahamu Michion to understand the principle behind this. Who knew what bizarre changes had occurred to this fruit in the Stomach Baron that removed the Devil Fruit’s weakness to water?
Could it be that it had become “sweeter and more perfect”?
Could the Stomach Baron possess genetic optimization capabilities?
Or there wasn’t enough space for everything due to the two Devil Fruits merging.
Thus, the Stomach Baron selectively transferred the energy of the Devil Fruit into its sub-body.
As a giant plant that was lured with food, it was natural for the Stomach Baron to make delicious fruits, rejecting the lousy taste of Devil Fruits.
Living in the sea, the Stomach Baron would inherently resist the water’s weakness.
Therefore, out of biological instinct, the Stomach Baron removed the repelling part of the Devil Fruit’s energy and transferred the excellent parts to the sub-body, which grew into this unique fruit.
But upon further thought, Aburahamu Michion felt it was unlikely for the Stomach Baron to capture the energy or frequency of the Devil Fruits. So far, only Blackbeard’s Dark-Dark Fruit had been shown to do something like that.
Suddenly, Aburahamu Michion remembered the plant that bore the fruit. It seemed different.
Thanks to the benefits of his transmigration, his memory was now exceptionally sharp, almost like a cheat.
Recalling the scene when he picked the fruit, Aburahamu Michion realized that he hadn’t paid much attention to the plant itself due to the intimidating “Abyssal Maw” and the urgency of picking the fruit quickly.
Fortunately, his enhanced memory allowed him to recall it like looking at a photograph taken unintentionally.
When Aburahamu Michion fixed the image in his mind, all the mysteries seemed to be explained!
Even though the light was dim, he saw it.
The plant that bore this strange fruit had the Devil Fruit’s patterns on its surface!
It was a mixture of blue and green.
Unlike typical Devil Fruits, the patterns were chaotic, like tangled yarn.
The Stomach Baron likely didn’t capture the Devil Fruit’s “frequency.” Instead, it transferred it.
More accurately, it cut it off.
To the Stomach Baron, the sub-body was part of itself, but it seemed the Stomach Baron could cut it off as an independent life form.
After living on the Stomach Baron for so long, Aburahamu Michion noticed that some food plants grew tall and delicious while others were weak and less tasty.
This wouldn’t have happened if the Stomach Baron had managed them uniformly.
This meant that many plants on the Stomach Baron were independent lives.
When the Devil Fruit was consumed, granting the Stomach Baron its power, it grew a sub-body to hold the Devil Fruit’s energy.
After absorbing the Devil Fruit’s energy, this sub-body was cut off, becoming an independent plant.
Containing the energy of two Devil Fruits, this plant started mutating.
Since plants can’t hold two Devil Fruit powers simultaneously, they turn the excess energy into a fruit.
The weakness to water and the sour taste likely remained in the main plant, as all Devil Fruits share these traits. This might be part of the Devil Fruit’s power.
The two fruits’ standard abilities occupied the entire plant.
The two different energies, repelling each other and leading to potential destruction, were turned into fruit by the plant.
With the food plant’s genes, the fruit became delicious.
Aburahamu Michion thought this was the most reasonable explanation.
As for why he didn’t die after eating the dual-energy fruit, it might be because the energies merged when the fruit was formed.
Or perhaps it was because the soul of the original Aburahamu Michion, which had died, held one part of the power.
After merging with the original’s memories upon transmigration, Aburahamu Michion speculated that although the original’s consciousness dissipated, the pure soul with its memories fused with him.
Otherwise, his mental power wouldn’t be this strong, with eidetic memory and the ability to recall things he didn’t consciously notice.
But Aburahamu Michion wasn’t sure of the exact reason.
After all, he wasn’t a scientist.
“Another secret to keep, and this one’s for life.” Aburahamu Michion shook his head, deciding to put it aside.
This secret could never be revealed. If people found out he had a Devil Fruit with no weakness to water, he’d be fought over and dissected for research.
After finishing his bath, Aburahamu Michion stood up, dressed in the new clothes prepared by a soldier, and opened the door.
“Ugh, so bright.”
As he opened the door, the dazzling sunlight made him squint.
Using his hand to shield his eyes, Aburahamu Michion took a while to adjust and start looking around the ship.
Aburahamu Michion was on the second floor of the warship.
Opening the door, he could see the sea from the bow.
Although lower than the lookout, it provided a broad view.
The sea breeze brought a salty scent unique to the ocean.
The colossal warship sailed towards the endless sea under the sun, and Aburahamu Michion knew their destination was the Navy headquarters.
There, his new journey would begin.
