One Piece Devouring Fruit - Chapter 20
On an ordinary wooden desk.
A small pink head would occasionally droop, hanging low as if about to slump over at any moment.
Beside her, a black-haired boy was attentively listening to the lesson, his hands busily jotting down key points.
As the class ended, Michion handed his notes to Tashigi.
Seeing the little girl, who had finally succumbed to sleepiness and was now rubbing her tired eyes, Michion couldn’t help but shake his head in exasperation.
Maybe it was because the weather was so lovely today—sunny and warm, making everyone comfortably sleepy—that Tashigi had directly given in to slumber. She used to try at least to listen.
Michion was wearing a simple white training outfit. His clean, handsome face had a serious expression, making him look more like a scholar than a warrior.
Combined with the simple white training outfit, he exuded an unusual air of cleanliness.
The cultural classes were uneventful, and everything proceeded smoothly.
In addition to continuing his training in mastering the “Six Powers,” Michion never neglected to develop his Devil Fruit abilities.
Because of Michion’s Devil Fruit’s unique supportive abilities, it was no surprise that everyone welcomed him.
After all, Michion could easily defeat his unenhanced self under the aura’s enhancement.
Who wouldn’t like such a powerful support ability?
But Michion did not become complacent due to others’ praise. He diligently continued his training, battles, study of navigation knowledge, and development of his Devil Fruit abilities.
Michion knew that this world was about to enter an era of upheaval.
The violent waves of this era would sweep away anyone without strength.
Every bit of strength Michion gained would help him protect himself and resist the era’s tide when it came… at least the small waves…
Michion could only passively resist the possible small waves from unexpected incidents.
Even setting aside his inclination toward the good side, joining the Navy was the best choice for Michion.
Like other fanfiction protagonists, he might not have survived enough to grow stronger in this era if he hadn’t joined the Navy but became a pirate.
Even if he chose to lie low and grow up, waiting until he was older to set sail, such a plan wouldn’t likely succeed.
This is the beginning of an era of upheaval, and Michion is just a child. Even if he’s more potent than ordinary people, the sea is still too dangerous.
There will be no truly safe place when the Great Pirate Era arrives.
Even the Holy Land Mariejois, where the Celestial Dragons live, was later climbed by Fisher Tiger, who liberated the enslaved people.
In such an era, unless you have a super powerful golden finger that lets you be as strong as a famous pirate at five, wrestle with a Shichibukai at ten, beat a Yonko commander at fifteen, and punch a Yonko and kick an admiral at twenty, joining the Navy is a wise choice.
In this world, strength is the most important, and before you’ve developed, having a robust backing is even more crucial.
If you become a pirate, you’re just a wanted criminal with no background. The more talented you appear, the more attention you’ll attract from the Navy, and they might send an admiral to take you down.
If you escape by luck, congratulations. The Navy will take you even more seriously. With such high potential, you might be the next Yonko.
Three admirals will be sent to deal with you!
Then there’s Aokiji controlling the situation, Akainu providing firepower, and Kizaru roaming to prevent your escape. You won’t stand a chance.
But if you join the Navy, it’s different. Are you a genius? Resources! Training methods! Teachers! Whatever you need!
What? Need to be more talented, attracting trouble? Does someone want to harm you? Are they threatening the next generation of the Navy?
Is Garp’s iron fist not hard enough? Or is the ice-fire-light combo of the three admirals not satisfying enough?
You won’t survive.
So, if you ever find yourself in the One Piece world, joining the Navy is a better start than becoming a pirate.
After class.
Michion woke the drowsy Tashigi and said, “Tashigi, you fell asleep in class today. Navigation skills are very important; it’s best to take them seriously.”
“Tashigi is not happy. Navigation skills should be left to the professionals,” Tashigi replied grumpily, not pleased with being lectured right after waking up.
“Don’t think you don’t need to learn navigation skills just because you can leave it to a professional navigator.”
Michion said thoughtfully, “You need to understand that in this world of vast oceans, ships are the only mode of transportation. If you possess decent navigation skills, they will come in handy.”
Michion looked at Tashigi earnestly, trying to illustrate the importance of navigation skills and make her take this class seriously.
Previously, Tashigi only casually listened during navigation class, which had little effect.
Even though Michion always lent her his organized notes, it didn’t make much difference.
While the world in One Piece is predominantly oceanic, unlike his previous world, which had continents connected, the land here consists of various islands.
Due to its geographical location and weather, each island has a distinct ecological environment, typically categorized into Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter Islands.
In such a world, the difference between those who know navigation and those who don’t is as stark as between researchers and ordinary people in his previous world.
After thinking for a moment, Michion decided to take a different approach to clarify his point to Tashigi.
“Let me ask you, in a pirate crew, besides the captain, who has the most authority?”
Seeing Tashigi’s indifferent expression, Michion decided to “take a detour” to get his point across.
“The first mate!” Tashigi answered without hesitation, looking at Michion as if he had asked a foolish question. “That’s common knowledge!”
“What if I say it’s not?” Michion smiled slyly, feeling proud of his cleverness.
“How could it not be? In a pirate crew, besides the captain, the first mate has the most authority, right?” Tashigi argued, unconvinced.
“Wrong, the answer is the navigator.”
Michion shook his finger, explaining, “A navigator is that important. Even if you’re captured as a slave, being a navigator could save your life and turn you into a valued member of a pirate crew. In this world full of oceans, navigators are crucial.”
“That’s impossible! I think you’re just trying to trick me into studying harder,” Tashigi grumbled, looking skeptical.
Michion chuckled, “I’m not lying. When I was captured…”
