One Piece Devouring Fruit - Chapter 29
This is an open strategy!
In battle, any means that can create an advantage must be used. This is actual combat.
Moreover, the Golden Lion was attacking their stronghold alone—Marine Headquarters—facing two formidable opponents: Garp and Sengoku.
The Golden Lion held the Navy in contempt. His goal was to destroy Marine Headquarters and prove the Navy’s weakness.
He didn’t believe the Navy could have captured Roger. By destroying Marine Headquarters, he aimed to show the world that the weak Navy couldn’t have caught Roger!
Their battles had been going on for days. It was a two-on-one fight this time, and the Golden Lion’s abilities allowed for large-scale attacks.
Garp and Sengoku had to block his wide-range attacks, as avoiding them would only protect themselves but leave the Headquarters vulnerable.
But this was Marine Headquarters. Garp and Sengoku had to expend more energy and effort to prevent heavy losses.
In such a situation, wearing them down was in the Golden Lion’s best interest.
At sea, such large-scale attacks would be ineffective against Sengoku and Garp, but they had to block them here. This was an open strategy!
Even if Garp and Sengoku decided to ignore the destruction and slaughter, it would play into the Golden Lion’s hands, as his original goal was to destroy Marine Headquarters.
Protecting is always more complex than destroying.
The Golden Lion could ruthlessly destroy Marine Headquarters and kill its elite forces, but Sengoku and Garp couldn’t ignore this.
Aside from the elite Marines, there were also future naval prodigies who couldn’t be harmed.
“Damn it, if only it weren’t just Garp and me here. How could we let the Golden Lion run rampant?” Sengoku thought angrily while sending shockwaves to shatter the stone lions.
Due to capturing Pirate King Roger, the Navy’s top brass had to station their high-level forces in various locations to prevent chaos in the New World and from Roger’s crew in hiding.
Future Admirals of the Logia type and Zefa had their respective duties stationed in various places.
Even the Vice Admirals were stretched thin, mostly dispatched to suppress pirates. The Impel Down prison, where Roger was held, could not allow its guards to be redeployed under any circumstances.
“In the short term, no reinforcements will come. We must minimize losses and reduce the casualties among the Marines.”
Sengoku and Garp faced grim challenges and blocked the Golden Lion’s attacks, but the Golden Lion’s Float-Float Fruit gave him a significant advantage in large-scale attacks, and some attacks still got through.
As casualties and destruction increased, the two grew more furious.
“Golden Lion!!!”
Garp instantly appeared before the Golden Lion, his blackened fist clashing with the two famed swords, causing shockwaves that decimated the surroundings.
“Kuahahahaha! Take another one!!” The Golden Lion’s golden mane flew wildly as countless roaring lions made of stone charged towards Marine Headquarters.
“Lion’s Roar: Earth Scroll!!”
…
At the same time.
When the alarm sounded, Michion immediately activated his resistance aura for defense, gathering his comrades around him.
“Seriously? An enemy is attacking Marine Headquarters?”
“Who has the capability to breach the outer defenses?”
The surrounding students appeared unperturbed, thinking this was just another mad pirate’s suicidal attack on the Headquarters.
But as the alarm continued, the students began to sense something was wrong.
“Hey, you all need to evacuate!” The instructor responsible for teaching cultural studies quickly organized the students for evacuation upon hearing the alarm.
Nearby classes even had children of younger Navy personnel.
Despite their quick reaction, Michion and his group couldn’t escape the oncoming shockwaves from the stone lions assaulting Marineford.
Fortunately, Michion’s location was towards the rear of Marine Headquarters.
The battleground between the Golden Lion, Sengoku, and Garp was far enough that the attacks reaching them were just residual waves, quickly neutralized by instructors.
“Michion, what should we do? Should we go check it out?” The tiger girl seemed excited by the large-scale battle, her expression eager.
Michion glanced at her, thinking he needed to keep an eye on her.
This tiger girl never appeared in the anime, and he initially thought it was just because she wasn’t shown. But now he suspected her nosy nature might have led to her demise.
For example, if she wasn’t held back during this battle, she could lose her life to the shockwaves.
“By now, Admiral Sengoku and Vice Admiral Garp should be there. If they haven’t subdued the enemy, the enemy must be very strong. Do you want to die?” Michion scolded.
“Uh, what should we do then? Just evacuate? It must be a big shot; I want to see!” Sora seemed reluctant.
Seeing Sora’s reckless desire to move toward the front line, Michion became more convinced of his earlier thoughts.
“Sora, this is no joke. You could lose your life,” Tina said sternly, with others also trying to dissuade her.
“Alright, let’s evacuate first. Ensure the safety of the younger students. Once we’re safe, we’ll decide what to do.” Seeing Sora’s disappointment, Michion couldn’t help but add:
“Escort these kids first. We have plenty to do afterward. Don’t forget the injured and the families of Marines; they need our protection. Even if we can’t fight, there’s a lot to do.”
“Really?” Sora’s eyes lit up, causing Tina and the others to sigh.
This tiger girl was a bit too excitable. She always wanted to get involved in everything and had a penchant for chaos.
She had no tiger’s majesty, more like a husky’s enthusiasm.
“Move!” Seeing the shockwaves getting closer, Michion grabbed two Navy children and led them to the evacuation site, where instructors and other officers protected them.
Seeing Michion’s actions, the others grabbed the younger kids, using Soru to hurry. Despite the younger ones’ cries, now wasn’t the time for comfort—survival was the priority.
