One Piece Devouring Fruit - Chapter 37
With Kuzan’s explanation, Michion quickly understood.
After all, the Kingdom of Ishtar is a major grain-producing nation. As a non-productive military force, the Navy has countless soldiers stationed at the Navy Headquarters alone. How much food is consumed daily?
Logically, military forces are supported by the countries or organisations behind them for their food needs. Countries have their food supplies to sustain their armies to protect themselves.
However, the World Government cannot directly provide food for the Navy. The Celestial Dragons residing on the Red Line would not allow their land to be used for farming.
Thus, the World Government provides military funds, letting the Navy handle the food problem independently, which is likely more convenient.
With this need, a market naturally emerges, and the Kingdom of Ishtar likely serves as a food supplier for the Navy.
Due to geographical convenience, the North Blue Navy branches would undoubtedly rely on Ishtar for their primary food supply. While they wouldn’t place all their reliance on Ishtar, it’s still a vital source.
Similarly, the Navy Headquarters in the New World would have multiple food supply options. However, even so, the Kingdom of Ishtar remains one of the largest food suppliers in the Four Blues and the New World.
“But what about my identity in the Navy?” Michion still felt puzzled. This only explained the relationship between Ishtar and the Navy, not resolving personal affiliations.
“Ahhh… The highest commander of the North Blue Navy branch is the king himself, as the Abraham family has a tradition of military service. So, there’s no conflict,” Kuzan yawned, looking unconcerned.
“Although the branch doesn’t have many personnel, most people join the national army to defend the country against pirate invasions,” he added before lazily waving and returning to his room.
Seeing Michion’s confusion, Adolf explained further, “Your Highness, this is the Abraham family tradition. It’s said to temper the heir’s character and provide self-defense skills.”
“When it reached your great-grandfather’s generation, due to close ties with the Navy, the military service shifted from the national army to the Navy. The close cooperation led to the king being the highest commander of our Navy branch.”
“Since the Navy cannot participate in direct wars between nations, the Ishtar Kingdom’s Navy is symbolically stationed with a branch under the king’s command.”
What kind of system is this? It feels like a unique version of “one country, two systems.”
Listening to Adolf’s explanation, Michion couldn’t help but find it familiar.
…
Alright, Michion was speechless at this surprising twist. If this were a novel, the author might still need to learn what genre they were writing.
Changing the plot on a whim? Altering the background without a word?
But what could he do if the foreshadowing had been laid since the first chapter?
On second thought, being a prince wasn’t so bad. It seemed that the relationship with the Navy was quite favourable.
Although initially stunned by this dramatic development, Michion began to see the benefits.
“By the way, Adolf, hasn’t… my father… had any more children?” Michion asked awkwardly.
“Your Highness, ever since you disappeared, the king and queen have been deeply saddened and have not had any more children,” Adolf replied, his face sorrowful.
Alright, the body’s parents were good people or kind-hearted rulers?
Unexpectedly, gaining a royal identity didn’t seem too bad, especially since it wasn’t a despotic king and had a good relationship with the Navy.
“Michion, Your Highness, when can we head to the North Blue? I can’t wait to bring this news to the king and Queen Lovena,” Adolf said, his face beaming with joy.
“Wait a bit. Our main mission isn’t training; we’re just the vanguard. After this is over, we can discuss it. We can’t cross the Four Blues without the Navy’s help,” Michion waved off the idea. Witnessing the birth of the Great Pirate Era was something he couldn’t refuse.
After all, this was the Michion of a new era!
And it also symbolised the rise of the greats, right?
Em…
That’s correct. Luffy and the Worst Generation were relatively young, some not even born when Roger was executed.
Most of the prominent figures in their prime had experienced Roger’s execution.
Those who had witnessed Roger’s execution transformed their mindset, achieving great success in the future.
For instance, besides Mihawk, Crocodile, Moria, and Doflamingo, most of Luffy’s adversaries had achieved notable status. Despite being antagonists, their achievements as Shichibukai were significant, being a third force apart from the Navy and pirates.
As someone a bit younger but of the same era, Michion wanted to witness this epoch’s beginning firsthand.
Navy? Pirates?
The Navy was merely a platform for Michion’s ambitions, providing shelter and protection.
Michion would repay the Navy’s protection by combating pirates.
He chose the Navy because it aligned with his “lawful good” tendencies, making it suitable.
As for becoming an adventurous pirate?
Look at Luffy, a “chaotic good” fool with countless enemies. Without his background and protagonist status, he’d have perished long ago.
Joining a pirate crew or a mafia to develop would be even more foolish.
Whether pirates or mafia, the entry requirements were too high, and the high-risk lifestyle was unsuitable for a child-like Michion.
Even joining the Four Emperors required substantial capability. There were many aspiring members; why should they accept you?
Without strength, one would die before even reaching the territory.
Given his lawful good nature and lack of desire to become a pirate, why choose a hellish start?
That would only bring unnecessary trouble!
