One Piece Devouring Fruit - Chapter 54
“The Art of Impalement?”
Tina was intrigued by Michion’s words. “You even have a name for it. Do you already have a complete idea for this move?”
“Yes, I think it suits your abilities well. As for its offensive aspect…” Michion hesitated before continuing, “It’s quite brutal.”
Tina’s eyes lit up at the word “brutal.” She had been hoping to develop an offensive ability, and hearing Michion describe it as brutal indicated its potential for powerful attacks.
“Tell me more,” Tina urged.
Receiving Tina’s encouragement, Michion no longer hesitated. “This technique requires you to develop your cage’s shape control. By controlling the formation of very thin or appropriately sized, but extremely hard, iron bars, you can create significant damage.”
Michion then explained the principle of the “Art of Impalement,” which he had borrowed from the brutal “Wood Style: Piercing Jutsu” from Naruto. Tina found herself torn between the joy of gaining an offensive technique and the cruelty of the method.
The “Art of Impalement” was indeed brutal. Once it pierced the opponent and entered their body, the iron bars would continue to branch out, tearing the enemy apart.
After hearing Michion’s explanation, Tina was deep in thought, one hand on her chin, her youthful face looking adorably earnest. This made Michion marvel at children’s maturity in this world again. Like Sean and himself, most were only about ten years old and had already faced a small-scale war.
Tina and others who had graduated from the Marine training camp had already started thinking about becoming more muscular and adapting to the atmosphere of war.
Michion knew this war was just a small-scale, deliberately staged to temper them. This was evident from the absence of high-ranking forces like the Vice Admiral and Gaius during the battle, suggesting they had left enemies suitable for Michion and his group to handle while keeping the truly dangerous foes at bay.
From this experience, Michion felt he had gained both combat experience and unexpected benefits. He sensed a slight boost in his stamina, which he attributed to the feedback from the Ouroboros after defeating the enemy captain, who had a superior physical constitution.
If strength and speed immediately improved Michion’s combat effectiveness, stamina provided a solid foundation. Stamina was related to endurance and resilience, essential for prolonged battles against equally strong opponents.
For example, Ace and Jinbe fought for five days, and in the recent Marineford battle, Shiki fought Garp and Sengoku for an entire day before being defeated. This highlighted the importance of stamina in battle.
The sea was calm and serene a week later, exuding a motherly gentleness. Even at noon, the weather was not too hot, and the gentle sea breeze made one feel drowsy—a perfect day for a vacation.
However, the mood of the Marine training camp members gathered in the ship’s dining hall was far from pleasant, mainly due to the lunch before them.
“Why is there not even a bit of pickled vegetables?” Sean complained, looking at the vegetarian meal with frustration.
The most upset was Sora, who loudly voiced her dissatisfaction. As a meat lover, she was unhappy with the plain food.
“Rice and bread? What kind of combination is this? Isn’t there any fish in the sea?” Sora yelled, her expression pitiful enough to elicit sympathy.
“Sorry, but we have run out of food on the ship. All we have left is some rice and bread. We’ve consumed our meat supplies too quickly, and the vegetables have long since been depleted,” the cook explained awkwardly, indirectly suggesting that Sora, known for her voracious appetite, was to blame.
“Are you saying it’s my fault for eating all the meat? And why is there no fish?” Sora retorted, though her protests lacked conviction.
Everyone nodded unconsciously, making Sora’s face darkened further. In her frustration, she took a big bite out of a bun, venting her anger.
This food shortage started a week ago. After repelling a large but weak wave of pirates, they continued to fend off smaller, weaker groups. As they digested their battle experiences, they began experimenting with the new Devil Fruit abilities they had discussed.
Over the next month, they abandoned their previous restlessness and adopted a monk-like training regimen—though their living conditions were far from monastic, the training intensity certainly was.
Then Michion suggested taking the group to other islands, and the Vice Admiral tasked with training them agreed. Thus, they set off on a naval ship in high spirits, venturing into the sea.
