One Piece Devouring Fruit - Chapter 64
After the battle, seeing how everyone was gradually getting proficient with the new abilities he had suggested, Michion began to ponder his next steps in developing his own Devil Fruit powers.
The primary function of the Halo Fruit was to enhance physical attributes. In his previous life, Michion had also begun experimenting with various types of auras from games. He tried creating auras for strength, speed, debuffs, and healing but found no success. It was unclear if he was developing them incorrectly or if the Halo Fruit simply had a ceiling that excluded such abilities.
This made sense because some fruits, like the Slow-Slow or Gravity Fruit, might produce similar effects. However, if the Halo Fruit’s limits excluded debuffs and healing, it wouldn’t work.
Michion’s experiments with the Devour-Devour Fruit, which had easily yielded the “Air Domain” series of skills, suggested that his initial thoughts about the Halo Fruit’s limitations were likely accurate. Halo Fruit would be overpowered if it could encompass all these abilities.
However, Michion needed direction. He realized that by combining the Devour-Devour Fruit’s “Energy Drain” ability, he could develop a “Weaken Aura” that targeted groups. This would allow him to drain energy from multiple opponents during battles.
Currently, “Energy Drain” targets individuals, but it has reached its limit without deeper development. Through extensive use, Michion understood that the energy drained from opponents was converted into a form that reduced his own Devil Fruit power consumption. Previously, he had assumed he was directly absorbing the opponent’s stamina.
During the war against the pirates attacking the Ishtar Kingdom, Michion discovered this when he turned off his auras to conserve energy and noticed that “Energy Drain” did not restore his stamina. After more experiments, he confirmed that the drained energy reduced the consumption of his Devil Fruit abilities instead.
Michion’s recent experiments showed that restoring physical stamina required more energy conversion, and his body had a recovery limit. Once exceeded, the excess energy had no effect. For instance, if the restored energy allowed him to punch ten times, any additional power would be wasted. As his physical strength grew, so did this limit.
This understanding emphasized the need for strong physical training, which Michion had always prioritized. Even without his Devil Fruit abilities, his physical prowess was formidable among his peers.
While the Devour-Devour Fruit offered no new immediate insights, its existing abilities—air manipulation, “Energy Drain,” and the overpowered “Ouroboros”—were already substantial. Michion considered the potential of abilities like stealing life force or souls, but these were beyond his current capability.
The former user’s basic ability to steal objects was of little use to Michion, as it only showcased the fruit’s fundamental application of power. However, combining the Devour-Devour Fruit with the Halo Fruit to create the Ouroboros offered immense potential, possibly leading Michion to the pinnacle of power.
When Michion first heard the term “Devour” from the meatball-like creature, he wondered if he could develop a leveling-up ability, leading to the creation of the OP “Ouroboros.” Sometimes, he asked if he had an inherent advantage akin to having a cheat code in this world—a local version of a “golden finger.”
“Michion, come quickly! There’s a barrel on this camel, and there’s someone inside! They seem to have been captured by the bandits,” Sola’s call interrupted Michion’s thoughts.
Shaking off his musings about the typical plot twists from overexposure to novels, Michion decided to check out the person Sola had found. From the bandits’ earlier conversations, they harbored significant hostility toward Devil Fruit users and captured them for profit.
This piqued Michion’s interest in the captive.
