Garp handed Hals over to Ace. By now, Ace and Luffy had become friends, though they hadn’t shared sake and sworn brotherhood yet.
Since Ace and Luffy were friends, it meant they had already defeated Porchemy.
That also meant they hadn’t yet dealt with the pirate Bluejam, which was a good time to strengthen their bonds.
“Ace~~”
With tears in his eyes, Luffy rushed to Ace, ready to spill all the grievances he had suffered from his grandpa. He smeared Ace with tears and snot.
“Grandpa was so mean today, he hit me five times. Look at these five bumps on my head, Ace, it hurts so much.”
“Luffy—”
Ace seemed a bit annoyed. He wanted to hit Luffy, but seeing the bumps on his head, he decided against it. After all, Luffy was still a kid.
Garp walked to the entrance of the bandit’s den.
He knocked on the door.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
“Who is it?”
A woman’s voice came from inside the bandit’s den, though it sounded a bit like a man.
“It’s me.”
“Who are you?”
The door opened.
A sturdy woman with orange, wavy hair and a cigarette in her mouth stepped out.
“Ga-Garp.”
Seeing Garp, the woman was terrified, her face contorting in fear.
“This is Hals, my new grandson.”
Garp started picking his nose and flicked the booger away.
“Dadan, Ace, take good care of him.”
The old man said this, then turned and left.
Ace: “…”
Dadan: “…”
Another brat?
“Hey, brat, you better listen to me.”

Ace tapped the water pipe on his shoulder and said to Hals.
“No.”
Hals smiled.
“What did you say, you brat?”
“Negative Emotion from Ace +200”
“Do you believe I’ll hit you?”

Ace walked up to Hals and said.
Hals thought for a moment.
“I don’t believe you.”
“Uh.”
Ace covered his head with one hand.
“Ace, Hals, don’t fight.”
Luffy ran over, waving his hands. One was his friend, and the other was his new friend. Luffy didn’t want them to fight.
“Hmph, fine, for Luffy’s sake.”
Ace turned his back, facing the forest.
“Thanks, Luffy.”
Ace suddenly stumbled and almost fell.
“Luffy, let’s go hunting. Sabo is waiting for us.”
“Hals, come with us.”
Luffy happily grabbed Hals’ hand. Hals nodded.
“Hmm~ Luffy, let’s not bring this guy.”
“Ace~~”
Luffy whined.
“Alright, alright, I get it, Luffy. We can bring this guy.”
“Hals, let’s go together.”
Ace: “…”
“Negative Emotion from Ace +200”

Why does it seem like this guy is jealous?
Anyway, Ace is quite a tsundere at this age. Time to tease him a bit.
Hals quickly caught up and walked beside Ace.
Ace didn’t notice Hals and got startled.
“Hey, why did you suddenly appear next to me?”

Ace stepped back, pointing his water pipe at Hals.
“Ace, are you jealous?”

“W-What did you say?”
“Seeing how well I get along with Luffy, are you feeling jealous?”
Hals moved closer.
Kids this age are so easy to understand, Hals thought.
When a close friend leaves you for another friend, it’s natural to feel jealous.
Especially if you only have that one close friend, you’d feel particularly sad and upset.
“I-I’m not.”

“So obvious. I can see it on your face.”
Hals looked at Ace with a bit of disdain.
“What’s with that disdainful look?”
“Nothing.”

“What’s the New World?”
Luffy was curious.
As they walked, Hals explained.
“The world is divided into five major regions: the Four Seas and the Grand Line.”
“The Four Seas are East Blue, West Blue, South Blue, and North Blue. We’re in East Blue, the weakest sea.”
“The Grand Line is divided into the first half, called Paradise, and the second half, called the New World.”
“The Grand Line gathers the world’s strongest people. To become the Pirate King, you must enter the Grand Line.”
“The first half, Paradise, is said to gather some of the world’s strongest people, but it’s actually just a bunch of weaklings messing around. The New World, however, is the most terrifying place, ruled by the Four Emperors.”
“The Four Emperors are Whitebeard, Shanks, Kaido, and Big Mom.”
“Among them, Kaido, known as the strongest creature on land, sea, and air, and Big Mom, with her steel balloon body, have the strongest defenses among the Four Emperors.”
“Kaido and Big Mom have no visible wounds because their skin is extremely tough.”
“Kaido has two scars on his stomach, inflicted by Kozuki Oden, a crew member of the Pirate King, with the Supreme Grade Sword, Enma.”
“Kaido likes to commit suicide and drink, has mood swings, and often seeks fights with other strong people, even attacking Marineford. But whether executed or committing suicide, he has no scars on his body, hence he’s called the strongest creature. No one has ever been able to kill him, and he feels the same way.”
“The Four Emperors are the world’s top strongest people.”
“I see.”
“Ace, Hals, you guys are amazing.”
Luffy looked at them with admiration.
Ace: “…”

Hals wasn’t sure if Shanks was already one of the Four Emperors at this time, but it didn’t matter. He just needed to fool Luffy and Ace.
