One Piece Dragon King - Chapter 36
Hals already had a schedule planned out.
In the morning, he attended a cultural class to learn about the history of the Navy and the numerous crimes committed by pirates. However, for Hals, these cultural classes were optional.
The two veteran soldiers had already talked about this.
When others looked at Hals, they didn’t know whether to be happy or unsure. For these kids, training sessions were still exhausting, and Hals’ training was likely even tougher.
But Hals didn’t mind.
These training sessions were less useful than his own body training, but he didn’t want to expose his body training techniques.
Hals felt a bit troubled.
Garp seemed to sense something.
“Hals, is something bothering you?”
“Yes, Grandpa.”
“Your aura grew rapidly on the ship. You must have a special method.”
“Yes, Grandpa.”
“Everyone has their secrets. I won’t pry. Do you think Zephyr’s training isn’t enough for you?”
“Yes, Grandpa.”
Indeed, the training wasn’t enough. He wore over a hundred kilograms of weighted clothing, including pants and shoes, running about three hundred laps as fast as possible.
These were custom-made for Hals’ physique, so they didn’t feel uncomfortable.
Climbing ropes couldn’t be done with weights, as the ropes would break.
In sparring, there were few recruits who could match Hals.
So, Hals sparred with Zephyr to improve his combat awareness.
Hals could fully use his abilities, while Zephyr went easy on him.
Otherwise, a single punch could be fatal.
“You must have a special training method. I’m not interested in that; it’s your own thing. But I can tell Zephyr to let you do your physical training, and he can handle the rest.”
Garp patted Hals’ head, which felt rough and calloused.
Despite being a puncher, Garp’s hands had thick calluses, showing how much he had trained in the past.
“Yes, Grandpa. But my training method can’t be learned by others.”
“Why?”
Garp was curious about his grandson’s training method.
“Human skin is fragile and can be cut with a knife. Only using [Iron Body] and Armament Haki can improve defense, excluding exceptions like Big Mom and Kaido.”
“Hmm.”
Garp nodded, surprised by Hals’ knowledge.
“But my training method enhances not just muscles but the entire body. The pain and torment are unbearable for the average Marine soldier or officer. The body suffers severe, irreversible damage unless it can heal quickly, like my body. It feels like a [Steel Skin] talent.”
“Of course, now my body has improved enough not to feel pain.”
Actually, it was the [Healing Potion].
Garp suddenly felt heartache for his grandson, who had worked so hard to become stronger.
But there was no need to probe further. The results were enough.
Garp patted Hals’ head again.
“I’ll talk to Zephyr. Just show him the results.”
“Okay, Grandpa.”
Grandpa left, leaving Hals to continue his training.
Hals resumed his body training.
He removed the weighted clothing.
These would interfere with his body training, so there was no need to wear them.
Body training involves inducing a vibration frequency in the blood, causing the body to vibrate. This vibration damages the body, causing irreversible damage. But with [Healing Potion], it heals and grows stronger.
Without [Healing Potion], there would be no growth, only death.
Weighted clothing would affect the body’s vibration frequency.
Regular clothing didn’t matter.
Hals’ physical attributes began to improve.
After a few hours, someone lightly patted Hals’ face. He got up and saw a sturdy old man with a gentle face and purple hair fluttering in the wind.
“Instructor Zephyr.”
“Garp told me. From now on, you’ll train yourself.”
“Just be diligent.”
“If you’re tired, take a break. We’ll start combat training.”
“No, we can start right away.”
“Good.”
Zephyr nodded, pleased with Hals’ willingness. Hals’ progress was quick. Ordinary Marine soldiers needed weighted clothing to complete their training; without it, they’d claim it wasn’t effective.
Zephyr recalled training the elite recruits in the New Marine Headquarters. When they returned, they needed to double their training.
These recruits didn’t train as hard as Hals.
“Let’s start with the usual. Let’s see how much you’ve improved.”
Zephyr raised a hand, palm facing Hals. Hals punched it with all his strength.
“Boom!”
A sound echoed between the palm and fist. Zephyr nodded, noting Hals’ improvement by about two Doriki.
This progress was fast.
Zephyr nodded, estimating Hals’ condition. He would use slightly higher Doriki to help Hals improve his combat experience faster.
“Alright, Instructor Zephyr, here I come.”
Hals removed his clothes, not wanting them to get ruined during the fight.
Hals punched Zephyr, using only 70% of his strength.
Using full strength would make it hard to pull back and respond to the next situation.
So he reserved 30% of his power.
Zephyr also punched, aiming at Hals’ abdomen instead of clashing fists.
Hals slapped Zephyr’s hand with his other hand and retreated.
Zephyr nodded slightly. Hals’ combat experience had grown. He wasn’t just randomly punching anymore.
Now he had a strategy.
Hals moved in again, kicking at Zephyr’s stomach. Zephyr caught his foot; Hals wasn’t fast enough.
Hals used the momentum to lift his body, kicking at Zephyr’s chest with his other leg.
“Good, good.”
Zephyr was pleased. Hals’ combat awareness had improved, and he could think more calmly during a fight.
“But it’s not enough.”
Zephyr grabbed Hals’ other leg, immobilizing him.
