One Piece: I Can Simplify Skills - Chapter 58
“Rokujin, impressive! You managed to kill Dias!” Shakky handed him a cup of coffee.
Rokujin replied, “You get information pretty fast, Aunt Shakky!” He wasn’t surprised that Shakky knew about it; he was used to her always being in the know. Still, he couldn’t figure out how she did it. Not many people were aware of this.
“Hehe,” Shakky chuckled before her expression turned serious. “By killing Dias, you’ve made an enemy of Doflamingo. He might come after you.”
“Fine, I’ll be waiting for him!” Rokujin said nonchalantly, blowing on his coffee.
“You’re lucky you’re Garp’s grandson. Staying at Marine Headquarters keeps you safe, and the Marines will back you up after killing Dias,” Shakky said, shaking her head and tapping off some ash from her cigarette.
“High praise, Aunt Shakky!” Rokujin grinned.
Just then, Rayleigh walked in and, upon seeing Rokujin, tossed him a pink envelope. “Kid, a letter from Hancock for you!”
“Oh? Thanks, Uncle Rayleigh!” Rokujin raised his hand and caught the envelope with two fingers. He hadn’t expected Hancock to write him a letter. Opening it, he found a recent photo of Hancock in a dress and a letter. The letter read:
“Rokujin-brother, it’s been years since we last met. How have you been? I’ve grown up now! This is what I look like now. Please remember me. You promised to visit me. When will you come? I’ll be waiting for you on Daughter Island!…”
Suddenly, Shakky appeared behind Rokujin, peering over his shoulder with a smile. “Wow, she’s grown into quite a beauty!”
“Aunt Shakky, it’s not polite to read other people’s mail,” Rokujin said helplessly.
“I didn’t read the letter, I just saw the photo,” Shakky replied, waving her hand dismissively.
“Hehe,” Rokujin chuckled wryly. After spending some time at the bar, he returned alone to Marine Headquarters.
“Shakky, his strength has improved quite a bit, and he has a familiar aura,” Rayleigh murmured, watching Rokujin’s retreating figure. The feeling was familiar, but he couldn’t place it.
“I heard he’s been training hard these past two years, personally sent by Garp. Few people know where he went,” Shakky said with a nod.
“Even you don’t know?”
“Mm-hmm.”
“Seems that person is extraordinary too…”
Back at Marine Headquarters that evening, Rokujin received a notification from above and a new Marine cloak, promoting him to Lieutenant. He would be assigned his own office the next day. As a Lieutenant, after leaving the training camp, he would be directly under the orders of the Fleet Admiral. He wasn’t sure if he’d be assigned to a specific location or stay at Marine Headquarters, but he’d just wait for the orders.
A few days later, at the Marine Headquarters dock, Rokujin boarded Zephyr’s internship ship to patrol the nearby waters and hunt pirates aiming to enter the New World. The current Marine Headquarters on the Red Line was the only entrance to the New World, attracting pirates looking to enter.
After boarding, Rokujin stood alone at the bow, holding his long sword and staring into the distance, lost in thought.
“Rokujin, have they decided on your assignment yet?” Zephyr suddenly appeared beside him.
“Teacher? No, not yet,” Rokujin shook his head.
“Then you might stay at Marine Headquarters. Garp won’t let you leave easily. Besides, your strength is already known to those above. Becoming an Admiral isn’t impossible with hard work,” Zephyr said earnestly. He viewed Rokujin like his own child, much like how he saw all his trainees, especially since his son would have been around Rokujin’s age if he hadn’t passed away.
“Staying at Marine Headquarters is good; I can see you daily, Teacher,” Rokujin smiled.
“You kid…” Zephyr smiled back.
Over the next few days, the internship ship sailed further from Marine Headquarters. One afternoon, as the sky darkened with gathering storm clouds, indicating an imminent downpour, Zephyr ordered, “Everyone, get inside!”
“Yes, Teacher!” Most of the crew went inside, leaving a few to control the ship’s direction. Rokujin, sensing something was about to happen, stayed outside.
A few minutes later, Barton emerged, frowning. “Rokujin, aren’t you coming in? It’s about to rain!”
“No, you go ahead,” Rokujin replied.
“Alright, but come in soon. This rain might be heavy!” Barton said as he went back inside.
At that moment, a white ship appeared on the horizon, with two large curved white structures resembling moustaches at the bow. Standing on the ship was a burly, obese man with a crescent-moon-shaped white moustache.
“Edward Weevil!” Rokujin’s eyes narrowed as he recognised the man. He turned to Barton and said, “Go get Teacher, tell him we have an enemy approaching!”
“Ah! Alright!” Barton was momentarily stunned by Rokujin’s words but quickly returned to the cabin. Rokujin remained on the deck, staring at the giant of a man. Suddenly, he noticed a short, hideous older woman with blonde hair beside Weevil. It was Weevil’s mother, Miss Bakkin! She was incredibly ugly and very short. How could she claim to be Whitebeard’s partner?
[Character: Edward Weevil]
[Position: None]
[Level: S+]
[Skills: Armament Haki (S+), Observation Haki (S), Swordsmanship (S)]
[Bounty: 210 million Berries]
When Rokujin checked the system interface for Bakkin’s information, he was suddenly enlightened. “So, it’s her! Why didn’t I think of that?”
[Character: Miss Bakkin]
[Position: None]
[Level: F+]
[Skills: Devil Fruit Development (A+)]
[Bounty: 1 million Berries]
It turned out Bakkin possessed the Devil Fruit, not Weevil! Although Bakkin’s combat power was weak, her fruit development was at an A-level. He couldn’t determine the exact ability of her Devil Fruit, but it was certainly not an offensive type rather an auxiliary one. It gave Weevil the power to sever Zephyr’s arm! It would be great if the system could detect her abilities. Does it need another upgrade? The first upgrade costs 1 energy point; the next upgrade requires 10 energy points!
As Rokujin contemplated his next move, Zephyr emerged alone from the cabin. “Rokujin! Where is the enemy?”
