One Piece Quest Fruit - Chapter 40
The day after dealing with Quick Blade Perry, Eust and his crew had just finished breakfast when Eust instructed Sunny to start issuing missions. Eust’s task was still related to intelligence gathering, while Lila’s was related to navigation skills.
Sunny stepped forward to announce the specifics.
“Meow, Eust’s mission: Optional life mission. The task is to gather basic information about the islands surrounding Lightlin Island within 24 hours. The reward is increased sensitivity to information and intelligence, and the penalty is loss of hearing for 48 hours.”
“Hm, this mission requires gathering information about the islands around Lightlin Island. It’s not too difficult, but the extent of ‘surrounding’ is unclear. I’ll need to cover a broad area, which makes it a bit troublesome. I estimate at lEust a circle of islands around Lightlin Island needs to be covered.”
“Meow, I agree, you’ll need to understand the information about at lEust one circle of islands around here.”
“Alright, Sunny, stop focusing on Eust. Hurry and issue a navigation-related mission for me. Although Eust took most of the reward from the last mission, it was still very helpful for a beginner like me.”
“Meow, right away.”
“Meow, Lila’s mission: Optional life mission. The task is to draw a map of the sea area around Lightlin Island within 24 hours. The reward is increased knowledge in navigation, and the penalty is the inability to swim for 48 hours.”
“Ah, drawing a map? I’ve only grasped basic knowledge. I’m not sure if I can draw a map of the surrounding sea.”
Eust was pleased with Lila’s emotional recovery. Yesterday, after Eust and Sunny found Lila and informed her of the battle’s outcome, she returned to her usual self. Her catchphrase, “this lady,” naturally came out. Lila rarely used “this lady” when she was worried about Eust and Sunny, which Eust had noticed.
“Lila, don’t worry. Life missions are different from training missions. For this mission, you just need to draw a map that matches the surrounding situation. It doesn’t have to be aesthetically pleasing or error-free. Sunny, am I correct?”
“Meow, yes. Life missions are the most lenient, while hunting missions are the strictest, with training missions falling in between.”
“Then I’m relieved. Should we act separately or together?”
“This time we’ll act together. We’ve been here for a few days. While Lightlin Island is prosperous, it has plenty of grey and even black market activities. Your mission requires going out to gather information, so it’s safer to stay together.”
“We’ll first gather the information Lila needs for her mission, then I’ll go out alone to gather information about the surrounding islands. Lila and Sunny can stay at the inn to draw the map. Our assumptions should be correct. My mission should be relatively easy.”
“Any other suggestions?”
“Meow! Eust’s decision is fine.”
“This lady has no objections.”
“Alright then, let’s go!”
…
Eust and Lila completed their missions without much trouble. They first gathered basic information, then had Lila and Sunny stay at the inn to start drawing the map, while Eust went out to gather information about the nearby islands.
Since information about the islands near Lightlin Island wasn’t a secret, Eust completed his mission smoothly. He gathered information about two circles of islands around Lightlin Island to ensure he fulfilled the mission requirements.
In the end, both Eust and Lila completed their missions and received their rewards. Both were satisfied with the rewards; Lila gained more navigation knowledge, and Eust significantly improved his information sensitivity, greatly aiding his intelligence gathering.
While investigating the nearby islands, Eust discovered an intriguing one, thus determining their next destination: “Ghost Island.”
Originally named Spike Island, Ghost Island wasn’t far from Lightlin Island. It was a small island with limited resources and a small village with few residents. It wasn’t well-known until recently when it became notable for ghost sightings, earning the name “Ghost Island.”
The residents of Spike Island maintained a respectful distance from the ghostly occurrences, while many outsiders were intrigued by them.
The ghostly events on Ghost Island were all linked to a “ghost ship.” The ghost ship’s ghostly behavior was primarily noted in three aspects.
First, the ghost ship moved autonomously in the water. The key point was “autonomous”—it moved without anyone steering it, even in calm weather, which was quite eerie.
Second, the ghost ship was said to consume living things. This had numerous witnesses. Whether it was birds landing on the ship or fish swimming underneath, they could be consumed by the ghost ship and vanish. However, larger animals were less likely to be consumed than smaller ones, and sometimes the ship showed no interest in any animals at all.
Third, the ghost ship had self-repair capabilities. It would quickly restore itself when damaged by “sailing” or other reasons. This had fewer witnesses, and some people remained skeptical.
Eust sometimes took risky adventures, but only when he was somewhat confident. He chose Ghost Island as their next destination because there were no reports of the ghost ship attacking humans, and the island’s residents lived normally.
Moreover, the ghost ship had become the target of “special interest groups,” with some individuals trying to “capture” it for unknown reasons.
The ghost ship had gradually faded from people’s sight. Though there were still occasional sightings, they were fewer, leading some to believe it had disappeared or been captured, and the sightings might be fabricated.
Eust couldn’t verify these rumors but decided to investigate based on the fact that no one had been attacked by the ghost ship in the stories. He hoped it wasn’t a reckless decision, knowing that rumors could be unreliable.
The island’s residents were safe because they avoided the ghost ship, but Eust intended to approach it, which could lead to different results.
Lila, upon hearing about it, objected to the ghost ship idea, finding it too troublesome. Sunny didn’t mind and left the decision to Eust.
It seemed Lila’s vote didn’t carry much weight. If she knew the truth, would she cry? Sunny often said, “Eust decides,” but Lila hadn’t seriously considered it.
So, while it appeared to be a group decision, it was essentially Eust’s choice. Their next destination was set: Spike Island, also known as Ghost Island.
