One Piece Quest Fruit - Chapter 48
The boat fruit was a unique Devil Fruit user with the ability to transform into a boat and navigate the sea autonomously. Eust liked the idea of having the boat fruit as a companion and wanted it to join their crew.
As they headed back to meet up with Lyra, Eust pondered how to persuade the boat fruit to join them.
Eust decided to have Sunny tell the boat fruit about the vast and exciting ocean, hoping to spark its desire to venture out to sea. He also wanted to convey the dangers and challenges of the sea and demonstrate their strength, encouraging the boat fruit to willingly join them.
Eust felt a bit guilty about this, as it seemed like he was trying to lure a child. The boat fruit had a childlike intellect, and his plan felt like exploiting that. However, he believed that bringing the boat fruit along would ultimately protect it.
Staying near Spike Island wasn’t safe for the boat fruit. The ghost ship legend would inevitably attract more curious individuals. Eventually, someone fast enough would catch up to it, and its fate could be grim—whether it was being “exorcised” or captured for display.
Moreover, without Sunny, there might be no way to communicate with the boat fruit, leading to further complications. Even with communication, one should never underestimate the depravity of some people. True villains wouldn’t care about the boat fruit’s feelings and would decide its fate without hesitation.
Considering these points, joining Eust’s crew seemed like a safer and more adventurous option for the boat fruit. Eust wouldn’t mistreat it, and they could explore the sea together.
Sunny, a capable translator, conveyed Eust’s message to the boat fruit bit by bit.
“Meow, the ocean is indeed dangerous. There are many people as strong as Eust. It’s scary,” said Sunny.
“Sunny, just tell it the truth,” Eust instructed.
…
“Meow, what should the boat fruit do? Staying here seems dangerous. It’s never left here and doesn’t know the way. Poor boat fruit,” Sunny translated.
“Hmm, Sunny, ask if it wants to come with us. We can protect it, and tell it that I’m even stronger than I seem,” Eust suggested.
…
“Meow, the boat fruit says it doesn’t want to go with Eust. He scared it just now,” Sunny relayed.
“Uh, didn’t we explain it was just a scare? We wouldn’t really hurt it. Sunny, ask if it wants to explore the sea and how it feels about its safety.”
…
“Meow, the boat fruit says it’s okay to join you if you protect it and provide food.”
“Of course, we’ll protect the ship. Sunny, ask what food it needs, how much, and if it’s willing to follow the captain’s orders.”
…
“Meow, the boat fruit needs a specific diet to navigate automatically. It needs food to repair itself if damaged, and the more severe the damage, the more food it requires. It also needs a lot of food when evolving. Any kind of food is fine—grains, vegetables, meat,” Sunny conveyed.
“Meow, as long as it’s protected and fed, it will follow Captain Eust’s orders.”
“Sunny, tell it about the consequences of betraying a captain on the sea. We need to be clear about that to ensure a good relationship.”
…
“Meow, the boat fruit says it’s not the type to betray anyone. Since Eust promised to protect it, it will follow his orders.”
“Then I, Captain Eust, invite the boat fruit to join us. Any objections, Sunny and Lyra?”
“Meow, no objections from me,” Sunny said.
“Hmm, I don’t object to the boat fruit joining, but why didn’t you let me speak earlier, Eust?” Lyra asked, her gaze somewhat intimidating.
“Uh, I just saw you were tired from the chase and wanted to let you rest,” Eust explained.
“Fine, you pass. Can I ask the boat fruit some questions now?” Lyra inquired.
“Of course, go ahead. Sunny, ask the boat fruit if it’s willing to join us.”
…
“Meow, the boat fruit agrees to join you. Remember to protect it; it fears fire the most.”
“Okay, Lyra, what do you want to ask? Tell Sunny to translate.”
“Sunny, I’m curious about the Devil Fruit. Ask the boat fruit how it ate the boat-boat fruit and what it originally was. Does it have a name?”
…
“Meow, the boat fruit says it doesn’t have a name and is just called the boat fruit. Should it name itself?”
“Let me name it! How about ‘Stark’? It sounds powerful and majestic,” Lyra suggested.
…
“Meow, the boat fruit says it doesn’t want to be called Stark. It wants to name itself Lilith. Nice to meet you.”
“Lilith? Is the boat fruit a girl? What species is it?” Lyra asked.
…
“Meow, the boat fruit is a night-blooming plant that produces a special fruit called Lilith’s Fruit. After eating the Devil Fruit, it became the unique Lilith’s Fruit and named itself Lilith.”
“Sunny, ask how Lilith ate the Devil Fruit. Isn’t everyone curious about that?” Lyra pressed.
…
“Meow, it happened over a month ago. Even living in the cave, Lilith could feel the storm’s intensity. That night, it was blooming and producing fruit for the first time. Lilith’s Fruit blooms once every ten years and yields a special fruit that greatly enhances the consumer’s physical abilities.
“Meow, during the blooming, Lilith absorbed a mysterious Devil Fruit that appeared in the cave. This unique fruit made it a boat fruit.”
“Wait, could the cave Lilith mentioned be the one indicated by the treasure map? Is Lilith the treasure?” Eust wondered.
“I agree with Eust’s guess. Sunny, ask Lilith about the cave where it grew.”
