One Piece Quest Fruit - Chapter 58
Eust and his companions had just left the Baratie, the floating restaurant. But where were they headed next?
Eust’s next destination was an island called Hertz Island, known for its rich iron ore deposits. This choice was due to the rumor that the Black Bear Pirates had been sighted there.
Who are the Black Bear Pirates?
They were the crew that Eust and his companions had encountered when they first arrived at the Baratie, and Chano had dealt with a few of their lackeys.
Eust’s plan was simple: if they encountered the Black Bear Pirates, he would take care of them for Chano, killing two birds with one stone.
Eust estimates that the Black Bear Pirates, whose captain hadn’t even earned a bounty, should be manageable. Moreover, Sunny’s transformation abilities were still their trump card.
With rumors about the Black Bear Pirates circulating on Hertz Island, Eust thought it wouldn’t hurt to check it out. As drifters without a fixed destination, Eust’s group always let Eust make the final decision on where to go next.
Hertz Island wasn’t far from the Baratie, and it was only about a two-day journey. However, Eust and his companions took several times longer to reach their destination.
What had they encountered? This time, they experienced the terrifying power of the sea, facing multiple unexpected situations during their voyage.
The first incident occurred on the evening they left the Baratie. Lila informed Eust that weather reports indicated a severe storm ahead.
Eust trusted Lila for two reasons: she was his companion, and her knowledge of navigation surpassed his own.
Additionally, Eust himself had a foreboding feeling, suggesting potential danger if they continued.
Lila was so diligent in studying navigation that trusting her was the obvious choice.
Thus, they immediately altered their course, with the sails and Lily’s power propelling them away from the storm’s predicted path.
But their actions were a bit late. They avoided the storm’s center but were still affected by its edges.
Even with the sails down and Lily providing power, the ship was like a leaf on the ocean, barely controllable in the storm.
Thanks to Lily’s control, they avoided capsizing, which would have been inevitable for a normal small ship.
Even though they escaped the storm’s center thanks to Lila’s warning and didn’t lose their ship thanks to Lily, they had drifted far off course. Exhausted, they decided not to sail at night.
Before meeting Lily, Eust had never sailed at night, as rest was necessary for recovery. Night sailing wasn’t feasible whether it was just Eust and Sunny or with Lila.
However, meeting Lily made night sailing possible under certain conditions. But after the storm, they needed to rest and wouldn’t sail at night.
The next morning, after breakfast, Eust and his companions were grateful for Lila and Lily’s help in surviving the storm and for Merry’s excellent ship modifications that allowed them to enjoy delicious food.
Getting back to their journey, the storm had blown them far off course. They had to rely on Lila and Eust’s navigation skills to choose a new direction.
That night, they discovered an island. Joyously landing, they found it was just a deserted island.
After some exploration, Lila deduced it might be either Crude Island or Jenny Island, both fitting the description.
Lila concluded that no matter which island it was, sailing northwest would soon lead them to another island where they could determine their location.
After a night’s rest, they set off again and by midday reached an inhabited island—Anise Island.
The peculiarity or second unexpected event was that the island’s residents sided with pirates in a battle between the Navy and pirates.
In the pirate world, the Navy doesn’t always represent justice, nor do pirates always represent evil.
This was the first time Eust had encountered such a situation since arriving in this world. He hadn’t experienced Captain Morgan’s rule on Shells Island, having never even seen Morgan himself.
Pirates being attacked by people isn’t without reason. Eust had encountered many lawless situations since arriving.
So-called guardians like that extortionist Jack, who killed his client for a Devil Fruit, showed no mercy even to former friends. Blood Blade Karl hid his true nature well, only to turn on Eust later.
When Eust met Lila, the swordsman Desley and pirate hunter Perry on Lightning Island were also dangerous types who casually took lives, likely having committed numerous crimes before Eust and Sunny dealt with them.
On Spike Island, while investigating the ghost ship, Eust encountered the devious Malfoy, who first sabotaged Eust’s ship supplies and then vowed not to spare Eust even if they were at fault.
Eust often only acted in self-defense against those who sought to harm him, but to ordinary people, the difference between him and pirates wasn’t significant.
In any world, the majority are ordinary people without the means to protect themselves, making them the easiest targets, especially for evil individuals.
However, this battle indicated another reality: there were good pirates and bad Navy officers.
Eust wouldn’t act rashly. Without knowing the full story, he would remain an observer to avoid misunderstandings. Sometimes people can be misled and used, including every one of us.
The prudent approach is to analyze the situation calmly and make decisions based on understanding the facts. While Eust loves adventure, he isn’t reckless.
You ask if Eust has ever been involved in a misunderstanding. Well, that’s another story.
