One Piece Quest Fruit - Chapter 61
People often say that the world is impermanent. Eust and his companions unexpectedly encountered a storm, which eventually brought them to Anise Island, where they made a new friend, Andrew.
Having witnessed both pirates and marines in action and seen battles involving hundreds of people, Eust remained unfazed.
Eust stated that he already had a certain understanding of pirates and marines. Just as there is day and night, there are good and bad people. Battles between good pirates and bad marines were not beyond Eust’s expectations.
If residents were to help pirates and be deemed bad people, it would surprise Eust. Although it could happen, Eust always hoped it wouldn’t. He believed it was better for people’s hearts to lean towards good rather than evil.
Talking about his new friend Andrew, compared to Kaya, Merry, and Shano, Andrew was still lacking.
The time they had known each other was one factor, but the sentiment was another, often more important one. Since Sunny and Lyra did not seem to like Andrew much, Eust also kept his relationship with Andrew superficial.
Speaking of friends, Eust also got along with the innkeeper on Spike Island, barely counting as friends. However, he wouldn’t change or sacrifice anything for him.
In contrast, if Shano, Merry, or Kaya were in danger, Eust would likely change his plans for them, not to mention Sunny, Lyra, and Lilith, whom Eust regarded as his partners.
Big Beard Andrew and his pirate crew were merely passersby in Eust and his companions’ adventure. When fate brought them together, they had fun; when it ended, they went their separate ways.
The greatest gain from encountering Anise Island and Big Beard’s pirate crew was watching the battle between pirates and marines and fighting the marines.
It allowed Eust to roughly understand the strength of ordinary marines at a marine base and compare it to that of ordinary pirates.
Ordinary marines were slightly stronger than ordinary pirates, and ordinary pirates were slightly stronger than ordinary people. However, due to the marines’ rigorous training and the pirates’ ferocity, a dozen pirates could often control dozens or even hundreds of ordinary residents.
For a pirate crew with only a dozen members to raid a small island with few people, could they really fight dozens or hundreds of people? Not necessarily. It’s just that the resistance consciousness of ordinary residents is weak, with only a few rising up to resist. Since it’s only a few, they are naturally cruelly suppressed by pirates. So, is there another reason for pirates’ rampant behavior?
Collective resistance might succeed, but it also might fail. This is the thinking of those who choose not to resist. It’s both hateful and pitiful. Would pirates let you go just because you don’t resist? The answer is easy to think of. Most pirates would not let you go.
Sighing for those poor residents, Eust and his companions bid farewell to Andrew and left Anise Island.
As mentioned at the beginning of this chapter, the world is impermanent. Eust and his companions were sailing towards Hertz Island along the route planned by Lyra when trouble approached from afar.
First, Sunny gave a warning: “Meow, Eust, I feel danger approaching from afar. I suggest we escape quickly. This is much more dangerous than the storm we encountered last time.”
Lyra also expressed the same concern: “Eust, I think Sunny’s premonition is correct. I also have a bad feeling.”
“Meow, Lyra feels the same? That further proves my premonition is correct. This time, my danger sense is directly in play. You should know that even the big storm a few days ago didn’t make me alert, which shows how serious this is.”
While Eust and Lilith were still confused, they were surprised by what they saw. Well, Lilith would be surprised too, as she’s considered a special pet.
What did Eust see? It wasn’t rare, but its appearance was indeed surprising to Eust.
Near the Lilith ship was a cannonball, one that could explode, but it looked like candy. It was a literal “sugar-coated cannonball.”
Cannons are quite common in the pirate world, even Big Beard’s crew had several cannons.
Yesterday’s battle didn’t use cannonballs due to special circumstances. Typically, pirate crews start battles with cannon fire, as do marines and pirates.
Back to the point, the “sugar-coated cannonball” itself was strange enough, appearing near the Lilith ship, clearly in an attacking posture, without any visible enemies. How did this sugar-coated cannonball appear?
After some thought, Eust concluded it could only be explained by a Devil Fruit user’s ability.
An enemy Devil Fruit user with hostility towards Eust and his companions, and with both Sunny and Lyra having danger premonitions, made Eust decide to leave immediately, even though he hadn’t felt it himself this time.
Regarding sensory abilities, one scenario is that Eust’s danger sense focuses on “natural disasters,” while Sunny and Lyra focus on “man-made disasters.” Another scenario could be that the last storm didn’t ultimately pose a danger, so Sunny and Lyra had no danger premonitions.
Eust quickly adjusted the sails and conveyed the “captain’s order” to Lilith. The Lilith ship, moving at lightning speed, quickly left the “danger zone.”
However, even as the Lilith ship sailed far away at high speed, it was still under attack by sugar-coated cannonballs. Although they hadn’t hit the Lilith ship yet, it was only a matter of time if this continued.
In this moment of crisis, Eust’s thoughts wandered to the next form of the Lilith ship. He wanted a submarine. Then let’s see if those cannonballs could still hit the Lilith ship.
Faced with the current predicament, Eust thought hard but couldn’t come up with a solution.
With no other options, Eust chose to “explode on the spot,” um,
Eust chose to wait in place, conserving Lilith’s remaining energy for a possible turnaround.
However, the waiting Lilith was still greeted by sugar-coated cannonballs. They couldn’t even eat the candy, with one sugar-coated cannonball nearly landing on Lilith’s deck.
Under the constant “fireworks” welcome, the “main character” Eust was waiting for finally appeared. It turned out to be a ship shaped like a cannonball, about the same size as the Lilith ship, half-floating on the sea and approaching Eust and his companions at great speed.
What’s going on? A Candy-Candy Fruit user? Why are they attacking us? Is it a pirate? Numerous questions flashed through Eust’s mind instantly.
