One Piece Quest Fruit - Chapter 62
Eust and his companions bid farewell to the Big Beard Pirates and left Anise Island. Soon after, they encountered an attack while sailing toward Hertz Island.
Thanks to Sunny and Lyra’s danger warnings, Eust cautiously chose to leave the area. However, the attacker did not give up.
Eust reluctantly had Lilith stop in place to wait for the enemy to appear, preserving the remaining energy for a final move if necessary.
Sunny and Lyra stood by on the deck, ready for anything. If Lilith truly faced an unexpected situation, Eust wouldn’t lose hope.
The attacker soon appeared. At first glance, it seemed like a candy-shaped object speeding toward the Lilith ship.
Upon closer inspection, Eust noticed someone on the “unidentified floating object.” It was a half-human, half-candy being, tightly integrated with the candy-like floatation device.
With a visible target, Eust finally had the possibility of fighting back, ending the one-sided bombardment.
Judging by the opponent’s appearance and actions, it seemed likely they were dealing with a Sugar-Sugar Fruit user.
The rapidly approaching “candy ship” continued to attack Lilith with sugar-coated cannonballs. Unfortunately for the attacker, all the shots were missed.
The way the Sugar-Sugar Fruit user activated their power was bizarre: the sugar-coated cannonballs were fired from their mouth, mixed with saliva. Eust found it quite disgusting.
When the distance between them was close enough, the candy monster spoke: “Why hasn’t this little sailboat been sunk by the cannonballs?” As they spoke, another sugar-coated cannonball was fired, but Lilith remained unscathed.
Eust, Sunny, Lyra, and Lilith were all stunned. The opponent’s “close-range bombardment” ability was also impressive, yet they couldn’t hit the Lilith ship from such a close distance.
Eust questioned the attacker: “Who are you, and why are you attacking our ship?”
“Who I am is unimportant. What matters is your ship’s luck, dodging 22 of my cannonballs. I have decided to use my special move to deal with this little ship. As for you all, you’re just background fodder.”
“Ugh!”
“Meow!”
“Eust!”
“Meow, fruit fruit!”
Eust and his companions could no longer tolerate this. Attacking them without reason was one thing, but looking down on them was another. Eust was not one to take such insults lightly. Forget about danger warnings; anyone who bullied Eust would get what they deserved if he could fight back.
Eust signaled Lilith to approach the opponent’s ship. He then boarded the “candy ship” and charged at the enemy.
However, Eust’s first step onto the ship landed him in trouble. His foot sank into the opponent’s ship.
The candy ship was made up of numerous small candies. As soon as Eust stepped on it, the ship disintegrated, restricting his movements.
When Eust tried to pull his foot out, a small sugar-coated cannonball flew towards him.
Damn it! Eust had seen the power of those cannonballs. Even a small one could disfigure him or worse if it hit directly.
Luckily, Eust reacted swiftly, retreating back to Lilith and avoiding the cannonball.
He then saw that the small sugar-coated cannonball, which had fallen onto the candy ship, was “absorbed” by it without exploding. This power was quite impressive.
“Not bad. You managed to escape the candy’s grip and dodge the cannonball. You’re strong, just the type I like.”
“Ugh, don’t talk nonsense. This captain doesn’t like men, especially not a grumpy old guy. For the record, this captain is male and likes women, thank you very much!”
Oh, I forgot to describe the candy man’s appearance. His body was half candy, half human, with a face resembling a man in his thirties or forties.
His abilities could only be explained by a Devil Fruit. Given his behavior, this man was clearly difficult to deal with and possibly vicious, as evidenced by his attempt to blow up Lilith and direct attacks on Eust.
Eust realized he had no effective means to counter the candy man. The opponent’s ship, made of small candies, prevented Eust from getting close.
Eust had learned many things from the swift swordsman Shano, including advanced swordsmanship, an improved iaijutsu, and a talent-based “concealment skill,” but he hadn’t yet mastered flying slashes.
Eust then had an idea: the art of talking.
“Sigh, uncle, what kind of Devil Fruit user are you to be so powerful and special?”
“Calling me ‘uncle’ shows no manners,” the candy man replied while Eust dodged two more sugar-coated cannonballs.
“I’m a candy man who ate the Sugar-Sugar Fruit. I can control candy and make sugar-coated cannonballs. Naturally, I’m very powerful.”
“Candy uncle, you’re so strong. Do you have any weaknesses?” Eust thought to himself, confirming that the opponent was indeed a Sugar-Sugar Fruit user, just as he had suspected.
“Even if I had a weakness, I wouldn’t tell you. I’m not stupid.”
“Uh, I thought… never mind. Candy uncle, why are you attacking us? We have no grudge against each other.”
“I like doing it, so what? Stop babbling. I’m a pirate, get it? I attack whoever I want. I’ve destroyed many villages; you’re no exception.”
Eust was furious. The seemingly cute candy uncle was cruel, disrespecting life, attacking anyone he pleased, and destroying villages.
In that case, Eust couldn’t let him go. He and his companions were also in danger. Though they were still communicating, it was clear the Candy Man had mental issues.
Before Eust could get angrier, the candy man attacked Lilith again, and once again missed. This time, he went berserk.
Small candies wrapped around Lilith and everything on it, restricting everyone’s movements, making it hard even to move a leg.
Seeing this behavior, from sneak attacks to missing shots, and now going berserk, Eust genuinely thought the candy man had mental problems and hoped he hadn’t given up on treatment.
Fighting this guy left Eust unsure of how to proceed.
