One Piece Space Fruit - Chapter 16
Cannon fire filled the sky as black shells arced through the air, destroying everything in their blast radius—grasslands, lakes, houses. The island of Ohara was quickly reduced to a shattered, burning ruin.
Flames danced across Ohara, spreading rapidly.
Life was extinguished, and death loomed; the island was being ravaged and destroyed.
“We must leave here quickly!”
Evan’s robust physique hadn’t been severely impacted despite carrying two people.
The main concern was the frost invading his body and the backlash from overusing his spatial abilities, making him uncertain of how long his body could hold out.
“Evan, what should we do?” Robin asked in a panic, the sudden disaster and the surroundings engulfed in flames filling her with fear.
Thankfully, she didn’t feel entirely hopeless with Evan and her recently reunited mother, Olvia.
“We need to escape to the western coast of the island. I’ve prepared a boat there. Once we reach it…”
Evan responded while deftly dodging the falling cannonballs.
Suddenly, searing hot magma erupted from the sea of flames, accompanied by roaring fire, its heat overwhelming even before it touched the skin.
“What is this?!”
Evan’s face turned pale. He threw Robin and Olvia a few meters behind him and braced himself.
“ROOM – Almighty Push!!”
The torrent of magma halted abruptly and burst in the opposite direction. The magma splattered, melting and extinguishing the flames.
Sweating profusely, Evan stared ahead, his face grave.
A tall, imposing figure emerged from the magma, his white Marine coat unscathed.
Able to control such powerful magma, wearing the title of vice admiral, and appearing on this island, the newcomer’s identity was clear—Sakazuki, a Logia-type Magma-Magma Fruit user, current Marine vice admiral, and like Kuzan, one of the future Admirals, codenamed “Akainu”!
His strength was monstrous, even surpassing Kuzan. Known for his ruthless pursuit of absolute justice, he would stop at nothing.
A deep sense of powerlessness surged within Evan. Fate was truly toying with him!
CP9, Kuzan, Sakazuki—the majority of the Buster Call’s elite forces seemed to be targeting him. All the odds were against him.
“As a demon and a sinner of this island, do you think you can escape?”
Sakazuki emerged from the magma fog, clad in his Marine coat and a black cape. His eyes were hidden in the shadows beneath his cap, and his face was stern as if chiseled from stone.
“Haha, who the real demon destroying this island is, you know best. It’s a pity; discussing justice with someone like you is futile,” Evan laughed coldly, glaring at him.
“Then surrender and die on this island!” Sakazuki’s voice was icy, his left hand turning into red-hot magma, bubbling and smoking.
“Hellhound!”
The magma-formed hand shot out, clawing toward Evan.
“ROOM.”
Evan quickly expanded his spherical space, disappearing along with Robin and Olvia. The red magma continued to melt the ground, sizzling.
After hiding Robin and Olvia behind a rock, Evan charged forward. His right hand channeled spatial cutting power, the milky white light forming a sharp edge.
As Evan dashed forward, his hand blade sliced toward Sakazuki, whose hand, transformed for the Hellhound attack, was slow to retract.
Their paths crossed, and Sakazuki’s arm was cut open, the wound bubbling with magma and rapidly healing.
“Great Eruption!”
Sakazuki swiftly turned, his left hand forming a massive, glowing red and hot magma fist, instantly evaporating all surrounding moisture.
If this attack landed, it would leave no remains!
Evan decisively teleported away. The magma fist hit the ground, melting and evaporating the area, turning it into a small volcanic crater.
Evan’s figure flickered, reappearing a dozen meters away.
“All you do is hide?” Sakazuki snorted, his eyes narrowing, his left hand reforming into a giant magma fist.
He stomped, the air bursting, and launched into the sky with Moonwalk, turning sharply mid-air, but not toward Evan.
He aimed directly at the rock hiding Robin and Olvia!
“Stop!” Evan’s face went pale. He desperately attempted to teleport, but his body trembled violently, halting his teleportation a few meters short. He fell to the ground, powerless.
“Damn it!” He coughed up blood, watching Sakazuki head for Robin. His heart ached more than his body.
“Sakazuki! Stop!!!”
As the magma fist was about to strike, a massive mountain flew in, smashing toward Sakazuki with terrifying force.
Sakazuki raised an eyebrow, lifting his magma fist to strike the incoming mountain.
Boom!
The entire mountain shattered under the magma fist, molten rock spilling out, destroying the rocks.
“Evan! Take Olvia and leave!” A giant, as big as a mountain, charged over, each step shaking the ground.
“Saul, great job!”
Evan was overjoyed, reactivating his spatial abilities to teleport beside Robin and Olvia, grabbing them both.
Seeing Evan teleport, Sakazuki stomped toward them, magma swirling. However, he hit the ground as they vanished, missing his target.
Evan reappeared dozens of meters away, releasing them, then collapsed, coughing blood.
Seeing this, Robin rushed to support him. “Evan, are you okay?”
“I’m… fine.”
Evan shook his head, dizziness overwhelming him, his vision blurring.
He was nearing his limit!
Had it not been for his nearly perfected Vajra Body, his body would have been shattered long ago.
Though Saul was also a vice admiral, he was no match for Sakazuki and could only buy a bit of time.
Even if he repelled Sakazuki, the other Marines had already noticed the commotion. Escaping by boat from the western coast was impossible.
The hope of escaping…
Evan’s eyes dimmed. He felt an overwhelming sense of unwillingness.
He hadn’t left the island to see the outside world, hadn’t witnessed the prowess of the world’s strongest, and hadn’t lived peacefully in this world.
Most of all, he hadn’t changed Robin’s fate with his strength and might have led her to die with him here.
If only he could, he wanted to live well.
“There’s still one more move…” Evan muttered, his eyes suddenly brightening.
“Evan, what is it?” Robin asked, confused.
“Robin, I have a way for us to escape,” Evan smiled.
“Really?”
Robin’s eyes sparkled.
“Yes, Robin, remember, when your mother wakes up, find a place to hide with her,” Evan said, lovingly patting her head.
Robin’s lips trembled, and she wanted to say something, but Evan stopped her. “Remember, you must listen.”
“You’re usually quiet, but you often kick off the blanket at night. When it’s cold, make sure to cover up. No one will be there to use teleportation to cover you anymore.”
“You used to love hard bread, but it’s bad for your stomach and has no nutrients. I finally got you to eat meat, so don’t go back to hard bread.”
“You often look out at the sea in loneliness, but you won’t need to anymore. Your mother will be with you. You must live happily, no matter what the future holds.”
“You’ll become a beautiful woman, with many suitors… never mind, I’m being too sentimental!”
Evan waved helplessly, wiping his red eyes. “Damn, got sand in my eyes.”
He looked at Robin, seeing her tears fall like pearls.
“Evan, aren’t you coming with us?” Robin sobbed. “Didn’t you say you’d never leave me?”
“Are you abandoning me?” Her voice trembled with deep sadness.
“Of course not.” Evan hugged her, breathing in her scent, trying to convey his feelings. “I have always liked you.”
“Sorry, little one.”
He pushed Robin away, extending his left hand toward her.
“ROOM.”
The spherical space formed, just big enough to envelop Robin and Olvia.
Evan bit his pale lips, channeling his spatial power into the sphere, making it glow black.
“Evan…” Robin’s voice was muffled by the space, her body wrapped in the black sphere.
“If there’s a chance, I’d love to hold you again, little one.”
Evan smiled, pressing down with his right hand.
“ROOM – Spatial Banishment!”
The black sphere trembled, moving downward, then collapsed the space, twisting everything around it, including light and rock.
With a thunderous sound, the void cracked like a mirror, revealing a dark spatial rift. The black sphere was pressed into it, disappearing completely.
As everything calmed, Evan stood still, covered in smooth cuts, his body bleeding.
“Success…”
Evan’s bloodstained face twisted into a grim smile.
“Robin, if I can leave here alive…”
“I’ll hold your hand and never let go.”
His sigh echoed faintly before falling silent.
