One Piece Space Fruit - Chapter 54
The Mermaid Café had a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Evan leaned back in his soft chair, lazily closing his eyes.
He thought that if some gentle, natural music were playing, it would be perfect to waste away a bit of the afternoon like this.
“Hello, here is your special Mermaid Coffee.”
Madam Shyarly placed a coffee cup on the table, accompanied by a saucer, spoon, napkin, and sugar cubes, all neatly arranged and pleasing to the eye.
“Thanks.”
Evan opened his eyes, nodded, and picked up the spoon to stir the dark coffee. The steam carried the scent of the deep sea and kelp.
He took a sip. The coffee was bitter yet fragrant, smooth and lingering on his tongue, starkly contrasting to the strong liquor he was used to.
“Very good,” Evan praised. Although he had never tried coffee before, he could appreciate its exquisite flavor.
Madam Shyarly smiled, pleased with the compliment.
“Is there anything else you need?” she asked as a matter of routine.
“Well…” Evan thought for a moment, looking at the beautiful mermaid before him. He smiled and said, “How about another cup of coffee?”
“Is a friend joining you?” Shyarly asked, puzzled.
“No,” Evan shook his head, meeting her blue eyes. “But I’d like to buy you a drink.”
This seemingly flirtatious remark made Shyarly’s face change. She took a step back, defensive.
“Sorry, I don’t entertain guests,” Shyarly said coldly, a stark contrast to her earlier gentleness.
“I think you misunderstand, Madam Shyarly,” Evan said, taking another sip of coffee. “I have a favor to ask.”
“What is it?” Shyarly asked, still wary.
“I would like you to do a divination for me, to see what the future holds,” Evan smiled.
He had just remembered that the owner of the Mermaid Café, Madam Shyarly, was a renowned fortune teller in the original story. Her predictions were said to be 100% accurate, though she couldn’t pinpoint exact times. At the age of four, she even predicted the Great Pirate Era.
“Divination?”
Shyarly’s face turned pale, and her body trembled as she backed away. Her usually calm blue eyes were now filled with fear and apprehension.
“How do you know I can do divination?” Shyarly asked, her voice shaky. Her ability to predict the future was a well-kept secret on Fish-Man Island, especially from humans.
“How I know isn’t important. What matters is whether you can do a reading for me,” Evan said calmly. He never believed much in fate or the future, but he was curious to see what a crystal ball could reveal.
All things have cause and effect. If a butterfly’s wing could stir a storm on the other side of the world, then his presence in this world would certainly make a difference. Knowing something in advance could help prevent future disasters.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t do divinations anymore,” Shyarly shook her head, looking fearful as she recalled the many tragedies she had predicted before.
“Can’t you make an exception?” Evan persisted.
“Sorry, but the prophecies I foresee are always unfortunate. I don’t want to do it anymore,” Shyarly said firmly.
“I see,” Evan finished his coffee, licking his lips. “That’s a shame, but alright.”
He didn’t press further, taking out the necessary Beli and placing it on the table before leaving the café.
Shyarly watched him leave, surprised. She had expected him to persist, but he gave up so easily.
Once Evan left, the Mermaid Café returned to its previous calm, but Shyarly’s mind was unsettled.
She let out a sigh of relief, but there was also a nagging feeling that she had made a mistake.
After tidying up the table, she sat at the counter, lost in thought.
Until another Fish-Man customer entered, waking her from her daze.
Shyarly swam over, apologizing, “The café is closed for today.” She then sent the bewildered customer away.
Shyarly hesitated for a moment, then swam to a wooden cabinet, opening a hidden compartment.
A crystal-clear crystal ball lay on a purple cloth, glowing mysteriously.
Shyarly took out the crystal ball, hesitated, and then decided to use her long-neglected divination ability.
The vibrant plants swayed gently the next day by the coral reef near Fish-Man Street.
The sunlight was bright and cheerful, and the sky was filled with white clouds. Ripples spread across the water.
Evan was stretching and exercising inside a circular space fifty meters in diameter. His muscles bulged and tensed, producing a series of crackling sounds.
His punches and kicks were powerful, generating strong wind pressure and airwaves. He resembled a giant sea king. The circular space helped contain his power, preventing damage to the surrounding nature.
Evan’s physical strength was profound after reaching the second level of the Indestructible Body technique. His lean figure concealed immense power, capable of causing great destruction.
Even without using Armament Haki, his punches could demolish small mountains or seriously injure medium-sized sea kings.
Through numerous battles, Evan’s resilience had increased. Training had strengthened his body internally and externally, making him more resistant to natural element-based attacks.
Evan estimated that he could withstand attacks from Magellan’s poison, Akainu’s magma, and Aokiji’s ice without being severely affected.
As his physical strength improved, so did his control over his spatial abilities. Techniques like “ROOM: Almighty Push,” “ROOM: Spatial Banishment,” “ROOM: Atomic Bomb,” and “ROOM: Space Annihilation” became more sustainable.
“Now, the most important thing is mastering my awakened spatial abilities.”
Evan reflected. Entering his awakened state drained his energy rapidly.
His energy consumption was manageable in normal mode, like powering a car. In awakened mode, it was like fueling a jet on an entirely different scale.
Even with his formidable stamina, Evan could only maintain his awakened state for a minute before being exhausted.
However, in this state, his power was on a completely different level.
In normal mode, Evan’s combat power was comparable to a vice admiral.
In awakened mode, he reached the level of a mid-tier admiral—a peak combatant of the Marine.
Maintaining his awakened state and delving deeper into his spatial abilities were now his top priorities.
