One Piece Space Fruit - Chapter 59
The Boa sisters prepared a dozen dishes, filling the table as if for a feast, and Evan dug in heartily.
“By the way, we’ll be leaving here in a few days. You three should get ready to board the ship with us,” Evan suddenly said to them.
“Really? We can come with you?” Hancock exclaimed, her face flushed with excitement.
“Of course. You are residents of Amazon Lily, and I can’t consider my task complete until I send you home.”
“You can take us back to Amazon, Lily? Thank you so much, Lord Evan!” Marigold and Sandersonia exclaimed excitedly while Hancock, sitting between them, lowered her head in disappointment.
Noticing their elder sister’s mood, the younger sisters quickly masked their excitement and resumed eating calmly.
Evan found it amusing to observe them. Compared to Hancock, who was already showing signs of becoming a beauty, her sisters Marigold and Sandersonia were also quite cute in their own way.
However, having eaten different Devil Fruits, the future effects and changes on their bodies would be significant.
With her Paramecia-type Mero Mero no Mi, Hancock would only become more beautiful, destined to be the world’s most enchanting woman.
On the other hand, Marigold and Sandersonia, with their Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: King Cobra, and Model: Anaconda, respectively, would develop features closer to snakes, potentially making them appear rather odd.
Zoan-type Devil Fruits often caused changes to the body, subtly transforming it, much like the CP9 members Evan encountered before, who had permanent animalistic features on certain parts of their bodies. (This can’t be considered a flaw but rather a directional transformation with both advantages and disadvantages.)
Crow’s white pupils and small stature were also due to the Armadillo Zoan-type Devil Fruit, but this gave him night vision and made his body more agile and nimble.
As for Snow, her unique combination of Zoan and Mythical Zoan abilities had not yet shown any beastly traits.
“I wonder if training them in ancient martial arts could suppress the beastly traits within Zoan-type users…” Evan pondered. Ancient martial arts focused on self-cultivation and physical enhancement rather than extreme techniques, emphasizing a strong and healthy body.
Long-term training in ancient martial arts, followed by Haki, might create a powerful subset of martial arts in the future.
Even if it couldn’t completely prevent the beastly transformations, it could still strengthen the body significantly.
With this in mind, Evan decided to propose the idea to the Boa sisters. Just as he was about to speak, the door suddenly burst open with a bang.
At the same time, Crow rushed in, shouting, “Evan, something terrible has happened!!!”
Evan looked at him disapprovingly, handed him a cup of water, and said, “What’s the matter? If the sky falls, the tall people will hold it up.”
Crow gulped down the water and exclaimed, “Something’s happened at Ryugu Palace!”
Evan frowned. He had been at a banquet at Ryugu Palace just last night. What could have happened? He looked at Crow, waiting for an explanation.
“The Queen has gone missing from Ryugu Palace! Early this morning, nearly all the soldiers on Fish-Man Island have been mobilized, frantically searching for her.”
“Evan, you just attended a banquet at Ryugu Palace last night, and now the Queen is missing. The Fish-Men at Ryugu Palace will definitely suspect you. They might already be planning to arrest us,” Crow said through gritted teeth.
“The Queen is missing?” Evan frowned, recalling Queen Otohime’s gentle and delicate features and her eyes, which seemed to see into one’s soul.
“Evan, Evan,” Crow was startled by Evan’s thoughtful expression and asked, “Evan, did you use your abilities to hide the Queen somewhere? We are an upright organization…”
“Stop talking nonsense! What are you even suggesting?” Evan gave him a look and said, “I’m thinking about why Arlong would have fled Ryugu Palace early. He must have an accomplice.”
“Evan, are you saying the Queen’s disappearance is an internal matter of Fish-Man Island?” Crow realized.
“You’re not entirely dumb,” Evan shrugged, standing up and grabbing his white robe from the nearby rack.
“Let’s go. We need to find out what’s happening.”
“What? But you said this matter doesn’t concern us?”
“Fool, Queen Otohime is the most beloved figure on Fish-Man Island. Her disappearance will unsettle the entire island. Even if it doesn’t directly involve us, it will seriously hinder our plans to leave.”
Despite his words, Evan was genuinely concerned for Queen Otohime’s safety.
This concern wasn’t because of her exceptional beauty or the small favor she had done for him the previous night.
It was simply because he didn’t want the woman who had tragically been assassinated in the original story for striving for peace between Fish-Men and humans to suffer more disasters and misfortunes.
However, as soon as they stepped outside, Evan and Crow were stopped.
A large crowd of Fish-Men had gathered outside the house, surrounding them. The moment Evan stepped out, accusations and curses erupted.
“Human! It must be you! Return Queen Otohime to us!!!”
“How dare you harm our kind Queen! You’ll face divine retribution!”
“If you don’t release the Queen today, you won’t take a single step out of here!”
“We’ll give our lives to take back the Queen if we must!”
The Fish-Men’s curses almost drowned out Evan and Crow.
“What the hell is this!” Crow couldn’t stand it, his eyes turning red with rage. “Which one of you saw us kidnap the Queen? Huh? You’re all barking up the wrong tree!”
Evan gently held back the angry Crow and shook his head.
Fish-Men generally harbored animosity towards humans due to years of suffering and oppression, especially in Fish-Man Street. Recently, Evan had earned their respect by rescuing slaves, but with the Queen’s disappearance, he became the prime suspect. Their concern turning into blame was inevitable and understandable.
Prejudice has always been the greatest conflict.
“I swear on my honor that the Queen’s disappearance has nothing to do with me!” Evan said seriously, his eyes shining with determination.
“Who knows if you’re telling the truth! Do humans even have honor?”
Unpleasant remarks continued.
“You all…”
Evan’s eyes became sharp, and an oppressive aura surged from him, making the Fish-Men who wanted to attack tremble and step back.
“We outnumber them, don’t be intimidated!” one Fish-Man shouted, leading the others to surge forward.
“Enough!”
A commanding voice rang out as Tiger leapt in from the side, landing in front of the Fish-Men, spreading his arms to stop them.
