One Piece Swordsman's Heart - Chapter 36
Having exceeded his expectations and greatly increased his strength, Vir decided not to continue training on the island.
As for the platypuses that nearly killed him last time, Vir didn’t go out of his way to find them. If he encountered them by chance, he wouldn’t let them go, but he had no intention of exterminating them.
Although Vir was a ruthless killer, he had a principle that never changed: he only killed when provoked.
If not provoked, he generally wouldn’t kill. But if someone did provoke him, he would make them experience hell.
He was no longer an assassin and wouldn’t kill people he had never met.
After boarding his ship, Vir was troubled. He had been contemplating whether to take the rabbit with him on his journey.
The rabbit would certainly want to go with him. From its gluttonous behavior, it was clear it wouldn’t want to stay on this barren island.
But taking the rabbit with him was risky. The enemies he would face in the future would be formidable, and although the rabbit was strong, its combat abilities were quite limited.
Even against the Vir from two years ago, if he used a sword, the rabbit wouldn’t last a minute.
Vir was truly conflicted until he thought of something and called the rabbit over.
This time, Vir didn’t use sign language. Over the past two years, he had taught the rabbit human language. The rabbit not only understood but could write as well, so it always carried a small bag.
The bag usually contained a pen, a small notebook, a bunch of carrots, and a few rubies. Apart from eating, the rabbit’s greatest hobby was collecting rubies. Most of the rubies on Vir’s ship were in its bag.
“Rabbit, I’m setting sail to other places. Do you want to come with me?” Although Vir already knew the answer, he asked the rabbit.
“Of course, we are friends,” the rabbit wrote on a piece of paper and showed it to Vir.
“Well, I knew you would come, but it’s dangerous for you to travel with me in your current state. I plan to give you a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit. I don’t know what ability it has, and once you eat it, you’ll become a hammer, cursed by the sea, and weak to Seastone. Do you still want to eat it?” Vir’s solution was to give the rabbit the Devil Fruit.
If the ability was good, the rabbit would gain self-defense capabilities and could go on adventures with him. If not, he would take the rabbit to a prosperous island and find someone to take care of it.
In Vir’s eyes, the rabbit’s life was very important. He wouldn’t blindly trust his companions like Luffy because he wasn’t the protagonist of a pirate story, not Garp’s grandson, Dragon’s son, and didn’t have a D. in his name.
Vir sometimes wondered if Doflamingo would dare kill Luffy in Dressrosa. Killing Luffy would have terrifying consequences.
His grandfather Garp’s strength aside, the title of Marine Hero wasn’t for nothing. He could easily rally a bunch of Vice Admirals to avenge his grandson.
As for Luffy’s father, Dragon, he was undoubtedly more terrifying. He dared to oppose the World Government and did so effectively. If he went after Doflamingo, would Doflamingo stand a chance? Even Kaido might not be able to protect him.
Vir took the rabbit to his room and placed the Paramecia-type Devil Fruit in front of it.
The rabbit didn’t seem to care about Vir’s previous warnings and instead asked with a note, “Is it tasty?”
Vir shamelessly replied, “It’s super delicious,” and watched the rabbit expectantly, curious about its reaction to the disgusting taste of the Devil Fruit.
The rabbit, trusting Vir, smiled and showed its shiny teeth. It then stuffed the entire Devil Fruit into its mouth and began to chew slowly.
Vir quickly intervened, knowing that if the rabbit tasted it, it would definitely spit it out.
Just as the rabbit’s face turned purple, Vir grabbed its mouth, forcing it to swallow the fruit. The rabbit, nearly passing out from the awful taste, had no choice but to swallow it.
After releasing the rabbit, Vir saw that it was almost fainting. No wonder, after enjoying good food on the ship for two years, suddenly eating something so terrible was a disaster for its sensitive taste buds.
As Vir was about to ask the rabbit about any changes, its body began to undergo significant transformations.
The dark red exoskeleton covering its body started to crack, causing the rabbit to roll in pain as something inside tried to break free.
With a loud crack, the exoskeleton shattered, revealing soft yellow fur underneath.
Typically, an exoskeleton-evolved rabbit shouldn’t have fur or even skin. But for some reason, this Devil Fruit transformed the rabbit’s body, replacing its exoskeleton with soft yellow fur.
The fur was long, glossy, and gave the rabbit a cute appearance. What was once a goofy-looking creature had become adorable.
If a woman were here, she would undoubtedly hug the rabbit and scream, “Kawaii!”
The rabbit stood up, inspecting its new fur without panic, even admiring itself in a mirror.
Vir realized that with the rabbit’s high intelligence, it knew how ugly its exoskeleton was.
“Stop admiring yourself. What is your ability? Show me,” Vir urged, eager to know the rabbit’s Devil Fruit ability. Though the rabbit looked cuter, this reduced its threat level, making it more vulnerable.
The rabbit, angry at Vir for lying about the fruit’s taste, sulked for a while before demonstrating its ability: its fur. It had eaten the Paramecia-type: Fur Fur Fruit.
Vir observed the rabbit’s ability. It wasn’t particularly strong but had potential for good defense and escape capabilities.
He had already thought of an escape technique, similar to Doflamingo’s Sky Path, but using the rabbit’s fur instead of strings.
Given the inspiration from Doflamingo’s String-String Fruit, developing the Fur Fur Fruit’s potential wouldn’t be too difficult. Doflamingo had nearly perfected his fruit’s abilities.
Believing in the rabbit’s potential, especially with his guidance, Vir was confident it could develop its fruit well enough for self-defense.
Patting the rabbit, Vir prepared to set sail.
