One Punch Man King Engine - Chapter 123
“Ding! Considering the amount of trouble caused by System during the hibernation period, System will award the following compensation.”
“Ding! Congratulation to the host for reaching level 15. A total of 10 Attribute points and 2 Skill points have been awarded.”
“Ding! Congratulation to the host. The shelf-life of Four-Star Monster Card – Desire Judge, has been increased to permanent.”
“Ding! Congratulations to the host for obtaining a Special Card – King (Max level) and a Special Card – Skill Copy Card.”
King’s mouth twitched. He was rather disappointed that System gave him such a small compensation after waiting for a while. He muttered to himself, “What a cheapskate.”
When he glanced at his Card deck, he found an exceedingly frightening sight: only the four-star Card – Desire Judge was in his deck.
“System, where are the other Card I have?” He demanded angrily.
“Repairing and upgrading System required a large amount of energy. All Cards had been consumed in the process.”
“… Come here, System, meet me in real life. I promise I won’t kill you.”
However, no matter how much King wailed, System could not return the Card to him. Fortunately, he did gain something from the incident; System helped him to upgrade to level 15.
Sigh, what a troll, System.
He tried to look for the bright side, lest he smashes his head and dies along with System.
He skimmed through the attribute board and found the two subsystem boards. The first was the pet system, with a lonely Vaccine Man egg inside, and the other was his empty mount System.
“Oh right, System, why did you explode when trying to duplicate Saitama that day? And why did the No Star Level Card duplicate me instead? What does ‘max level’ mean? How do I use the Skill Copy Card?”
King took the time to familiarize himself with the new things that System had created.
“Ding! Due to the unexpectedly high power level of the target chosen by the host, System could not contain and withstand the energy, resulting in an explosion. In order to compensate, System had given the host a Max-Level Character Card. When the host equips the Card, all Attributes and Skills will be temporarily upgraded to their maximum level. In addition, System compensates the host with a Skill Copy Card. By using this Card, the host could copy the Skills of a target.”
“Reminder: The host must be careful in choosing the copy target to avoid choosing a target with unexpectedly high level, which would cause System to explode again.”
King sighed helplessly. Saitama… that baldy was indeed a glitch character. I can’t do anything to him even if I cheat. Life is so unfair!
Well, on the bright side, it was quite fortunate that System gave him a Max-Level Card. With that Card, he could transform into a god-level monster, likely comparable to Boros of the Dark Matter Thieves.
He sighed in relief. With this Card, he could go back to the outside world without worry.
He happily added all 15 Attribute Points to Defense, from 38 to 53 points. His Defense had greatly increased, just as he wanted. Cards could take care of the offense, but he can’t always rely on them for the defense.
Endurance, Strength, and Speed also improved a bit to compensate.
He also leveled up his Liquid Jet and Super Glue to level 2. He had a few extra Skill Points anyway; it would be a waste not to use them.
That night, he slept peacefully, smiling. System’s return relieved him from the constant worry of his unique luck.
Now he could go down the mountain and find Saitama.
The dojo was a calm and quiet place, but it was also boring. His only source of fun was the games he played with Bang, and most of the time, he just counted the days in a daze.
Now, he was finally free.
The next day, he requested to go down the mountain to Bang.
Bang did not say anything. In any case, he had no business left with King.
On the other hand, Charanko was a little reluctant to part with King. The short time he spent with King had made his life a little richer. If King went down the mountain, he would be left alone.
The pain of boredom!
Life is short? Life is too long!
…
“Oh, did King go down the mountain?”
In a laboratory in G City, Metal Knight grinned his big buckteeth and looked happily at the information sent back by the computer. He chuckled, “King, my G2 has spent days waiting for you at the foot of the mountain. I can’t wait to finally see the data from your battle with the G2.”
He immediately sent King’s position to G2 and told it to move.
The G2 was an intelligent robot, so there was no need for him to directly control it. G2 could automatically determine the right time to attack King. He needs only wait for the final data transfer.
…
Meanwhile, a mechanical man was wandering the streets of Z City. His elegant blond hair framed a handsome and cold face, and his mechanical body glistened with a metallic luster.
He paced on the street, his cold eyes sweeping the surroundings. Suddenly, his mobile phone rang; the caller ID showed “Dr. Kuseno.”
“Hello, Dr. Kuseno. What can I do for you?”
“Genos. I have detected a suspicious robot in Z City. You should check it out when you can.”
An old and wizened voice replied from the phone.
“A cyborg?”
The cyborg known as Genos narrowed his cold eyes; flames of hatred flashed within. “I hope it is my enemy. Doctor, I will kill it with my hands.”
“Hey, wait a minute, Genos. The other party is a machine…”
Genos hung the call up before Dr. Kuseno could finish his sentence. He put away his phone, and his handsome face became even colder. He recalled the miserable death of his own family and clenched his fist in burning anger.
Four years ago, a deeply misfortunate fate befell his happy family. An uncontrollable cyborg had destroyed his city and his home. If Dr. Kuseno had not passed by and transformed him into a mechanical cyborg, he would probably have perished along with the rest of the city.
In the years that followed, he marched forth with a single purpose; to find the uncontrollable cyborg and exact his vengeance!
His face was cold, and the sky was dark. Thunder rumbled as if foreshadowing the incredible battle that was about to begin.
…
“Eh, is it going to rain soon? Damn it, I went out without looking at the weather forecast. I guess I won’t be able to reach Saitama’s home. Hmm, let’s find a place to stay for the night.”
King headed straight for Saitama’s house from Bang’s mountain. However, the weather had different plans. Dark clouds covered the sky, and thunder roared not long after he left. Heavy rain looms over the horizon.
He looked around and ran to the nearest hotel. It seems that he would have to retreat for tonight.
“Locating target.”
“The target has been confirmed.”
“Lock on to the target.”
Suddenly, a series of mechanical sounds came from behind him.
A faint premonition rose in his heart. He turned around and saw a robot rushing over from the end of the street. Its target… was him?!
“O gods in heaven, what sin have I committed? I barely left the mountain and already got into trouble!”
