Reincarnated in One Piece - Chapter 20
The Training Corps consists of recruits who still need to join the leading regiments and instructors responsible for their training.
The primary training includes practicing with the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear, combat training, and actual combat tests.
Today, Tang An spent seven gold coins to get the shopkeeper to bring him to this area.
“If you want to join the Garrison Regiment, you must go through the Training Corps. They will conduct various assessments and training. If your performance is too poor, you will be asked to leave. If you pass their assessment, I can get you into the Garrison Regiment,” explained the shopkeeper, looking at Tang An, whose hair had grown to shoulder length. He seemed different from the last time they met.
“No problem,” Tang An smiled. Despite being greedy, the shopkeeper was efficient and reliable. Tang An now had only five gold coins left; the rest had gone into the shopkeeper’s pocket.
Soon, they arrived at a camp. The shopkeeper talked to a uniformed officer, discreetly handing over something and then pointing to Tang An.
Tang An maintained his smile. He had 17 days left, and the Colossal Titan would breach Wall Rose in ten days.
Eren and his friends were still in the Training Corps, specifically the 104th Training Corps. They helped the garrison regiment repair cannons on the walls and were soon to choose between joining the Survey Corps, Garrison Regiment, or Military Police Brigade.
Joining the Training Corps now might allow Tang An to meet Eren and others.
“I’ve arranged everything. After about five minutes, you just need to pass their assessment, or else…” said the shopkeeper.
“I understand.”
“Good luck,” said the shopkeeper, waving goodbye.
“Follow me,” said the instructor who had talked to the shopkeeper, frowning slightly at Tang An, showing a hint of disdain.
The instructor had seen many people trying to join through backdoor means, and most couldn’t endure the training and were eventually sent away. The higher-ups didn’t mind these backdoor deals, seeing them as easy money.
Tang An followed the instructor, smiling. He was here to practice with the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear and identify his targets.
They entered the camp with an extensive training ground where many recruits in yellow training uniforms were practicing. Tang An didn’t see his targets among them, probably because they were from the 104th Training Corps, about to graduate.
After crossing the training ground, they entered a building, climbed a wooden staircase, and the instructor knocked on a door.
“Come in.”
“Instructor Keith, he wants to join the Training Corps,” the instructor said.
Tang An saw a tall, bald man with a beard and deep-set eyes who looked extremely serious. This was Keith Shadis, the head instructor of the 104th Training Corps and a former commander of the Survey Corps.
While Tang An assessed Keith, Keith was also sizing up Tang An.
Tang An had shoulder-length, messy black hair, dark eyes, a scar on his forehead, a well-proportioned physique, and looked about 1.69 meters tall. His face was pale, as if malnourished, and he wasn’t ancient. He wore simple short sleeves and long pants, appearing quite ordinary.
Keith frowned. This person didn’t seem fit to be a soldier and couldn’t endure the Training Corps’ regimen.
“The 105th and 106th Training Corps are already full. I advise you to leave; this isn’t the place for you,” Keith said, offering a kind warning.
He had seen many like Tang An before, and their outcomes were predictable.
“You won’t know unless you try!” Tang An smiled.
“Ignorant.”
Keith’s face darkened, looking intimidating.
“I heard you’re the head instructor of the Training Corps, so you must be strong. If I defeat you, can I join the Training Corps?” Tang An didn’t want to waste time and got straight to the point. He tried to master the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear within ten days.
“Hiss…” The instructor gasped, visibly trembling. No one had ever dared to challenge Keith like this.
“It’s been a long time since someone challenged me,” Keith said, smiling menacingly as he stood up, towering over Tang An at over 1.8 meters tall.
“Let’s go to the training ground.”
“No need.” Tang An extended a finger. “I’ll defeat you in one move.”
Keith didn’t respond, his face growing more terrifying. He decided to teach this arrogant guy a lesson.
Without warning, Keith launched a punch at Tang An, the sound of breaking air faintly audible due to its speed. But to Tang An, Keith’s attack seemed slow. He sidestepped and stepped forward, delivering a punch to Keith’s abdomen.
“Ugh…”
Hot blood spewed from Keith’s mouth. His face twisted in pain as he lost all strength and slowly knelt, eyes bulging from their sockets. If Tang An had aimed to kill, Keith would be dead now.
The instructor was stunned. Keith Shadis, the best fighter in the Training Corps, was now on his knees, clutching his abdomen and vomiting blood.
Ten minutes later, Keith sat in a chair, pale and dazed. His body hadn’t fully recovered. If Tang An had targeted a vital spot, he’d be dead.
Keith had only seen the strength and speed Tang An displayed in Levi.
“Do I qualify to join the Training Corps now?” Tang An asked as if he had done something trivial.
“Yes,” Keith said after silence, seeing a second Levi in Tang An. He planned to investigate Tang An’s background thoroughly.
Keith didn’t know that the shopkeeper had already prepared Tang An’s identity: a survivor from Wall Maria, which had fallen five years ago. Investigating such a person would be difficult in the short term, especially with the shopkeeper’s cover.
“Which training class do you want to join?”
“The 104th.”
Keith frowned, still in pain. “The 104th Training Corps is about to graduate. Although your combat skills are impressive, your skills with the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear aren’t up to par.”
Keith had gauged Tang An’s combat abilities from that punch. His speed, strength, and reflexes were superior. If Keith couldn’t see that, he wouldn’t be the head instructor.
“Give me nine days. If I’m not up to par, you can place me wherever you want.”
Tang An knew that using Shave and moonwalking consumed much energy, so he came to the Training Corps to learn the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear. With his enhanced balance skills from Shave and Moonwalk, mastering the gear would be swift.
“Alright, nine days it is.”
Keith agreed, planning to use this time to investigate Tang An’s background. If everything checked out, Tang An could indeed become another Levi.
