Reincarnated in One Piece - Chapter 30
In the afternoon, several horses galloped across the countryside. Levi and Petra, Eld, and Gunther led the group—elite Survey Corps soldiers. Eren and Tang An were also among them.
During his ten days with the Cadet Corps, Tang An had mastered the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear and learned how to ride a horse. After about an hour of riding, the group arrived at their new base: an overgrown castle, some parts of which were in ruins, though most of it was still intact.
“It looks abandoned.”
“Full of weeds!”
“There must be dust piled up inside.”
The group’s initial excitement was quickly replaced by disappointment as they entered the castle’s dilapidated state.
“Cleaning up is your job.”
Levi’s orders were clear. Everyone looked at Tang An, who seemed out of place and irritating to them, with a host of flaws that made him annoying to be around.
“What are you going to do?”
Everyone stared at Tang An. This guy was not a team player and quite annoying.
“I haven’t finished my daily training yet.”
Tang An waved them off and left the others visibly displeased. Erwin had tasked them with watching Eren and keeping an eye on Tang An.
“Levi.”
They all looked to Levi for direction.
“Just ignore him.”
Levi frowned slightly and then walked into the castle. The rest followed and began cleaning.
Tang An headed to a small hill on the castle’s right side to start his daily training. His regimen included 2,000 push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, and more, which he planned to increase to 3,000. He also worked on extending the range of his “Shave” technique from five meters to six or seven meters and continued practicing “Moonwalk.”
By dusk, the group had finished cleaning the entire castle. Petra, one of the two female members of Levi’s Special Operations Squad, had a gentle nature and impressive strength. Unlike the slightly unhinged scientist Hange, she was someone the others instinctively protected. Today, while cleaning a room on the castle’s right side, she noticed Tang An training on the hill and became curious. She observed that Tang An could do 300 push-ups in a minute, which meant he could do five push-ups per second. This speed and his abilities were far beyond those of an average person.
“I heard he fought Levi, but I don’t know the outcome,” she thought, intrigued by Tang An.
“Who’s going to call that guy for dinner?”
Eld expressed his displeasure.
“I’ll go!”
Petra, being closest to the door, volunteered. But before she could step out, someone entered the room—Tang An, drenched in sweat and carrying a fully grown deer on his shoulder. He dropped it to the floor, stunning everyone.
“I saw this guy wandering in the nearby forest. Maybe we hit it off, so I brought him back. Does anyone know how to cook?”
Tang An had scouted the forest near the castle during his training and found it teeming with game, likely because few people ventured there. The high-intensity training made him crave more than sweet potatoes and bread; he needed meat to replenish his energy.
Looking at the nearly three-meter-long deer and their plates of sweet potatoes and bread, everyone stood up in unison.
“I’ll get the firewood.”
“I’ll fetch the spices.”
“Oluo, come help me clean it.”
“I think grilling is best.”
“A stew would be good too.”
Eren felt a bit overwhelmed by the sudden enthusiasm. They had been grumbling about Tang An earlier, but now they acted like nothing had happened.
“I’ll go take a bath by the river. I’m all sweaty and smelly,” Tang An said, walking away.
About half an hour later, the group gathered around a table with a roasted deer, the aroma watering their mouths.
“Can we start eating now?” Hange asked, drooling as she grabbed a knife and fork to carve a leg.
No one held back. In no time, the deer was reduced to a pile of bones, with the most enormous heap in front of Tang An.
“Didn’t expect you to have such an appetite.”
Everyone glanced at Tang An’s stomach. They had seen him eat half the deer by himself.
“I’m only four-tenths full. It seems one deer isn’t enough,” Tang An said, picking his teeth. His stomach showed no signs of being full, and he was still slightly hungry.
“You sure you’re not a titan?”
Eld couldn’t help but ask. The amount Tang An ate was hard to accept, the only explanation being that he was a titan.
“You can say that if you want. So what if I have a big appetite? It’s not like I’m eating your rice. Eren is also a titan, and he eats like you guys.”
Tang An stretched and yawned, causing the atmosphere to become a bit tense.
“I’m going to find more food. Who didn’t get enough?”
“I didn’t!” Hange raised her hand eagerly, unfazed by the awkward atmosphere.
“Okay!”
With Tang An’s footsteps fading into the distance, Eld slapped the table, his face red with anger.
“If you’re unhappy, you can challenge him tomorrow.”
Levi spoke up for once.
“Great idea,” Hange said, always ready for some excitement.
“By the way, Eren, why did you eat so little?”
Everyone turned to Eren.
“I don’t know!” Eren was baffled. Was eating less a crime?
“We should study this. Titans seem to survive without eating or drinking. We caught two alive this time.”
Hange’s eyes sparkled with excitement.
As the sun rose, the world began to wake up.
Tang An had caught another deer last night, leaving Hange with a leg. It seemed she had spent the night discussing titan research with Eren.
“Morning!” Tang An stretched at the door and saw Petra.
“Morning!”
Petra looked at Tang An strangely. She had noticed that he trained at night, not going to bed until around two, yet he woke up at seven. He was indeed a training maniac.
“Eren, Hange, Levi!”
The others emerged from the castle, with Eren looking exceptionally exhausted, dark circles under his eyes.
“Captain, do we have any tasks today?”
Gunther asked Levi.
“No.”
Levi’s response was curt.
“New members should be arriving today.”
Petra tucked her hair behind her ear.
“Mikasa, Armin, Reiner—they’re coming?”
Eren’s spirits lifted at the news.
“You should get some sleep first,” Oluo suggested, noticing Eren’s tired state.
“You guys chat. I’m off to train,” Tang An said, waving.
“Wait, I challenge you to a duel,” Eld said sternly, remembering Levi’s words from the previous night.
