Reincarnated in One Piece - Chapter 44
“So it was you who devoured Annie! How do you even know how to inherit the power of the Titans?”
The colossal titan’s corpse was slowly melting away, the surrounding temperature so high that even the ground had started to melt—thick steam spread, preventing the nearby mindless Titans from moving any closer.
Reiner was in bad shape, having not had a moment to catch his breath since transforming into the Armored Titan.
Tang An, still in his Female Titan form, made no reply. Dual kukri knives appeared in his hands.
With a swift motion, Tang An slashed toward Reiner’s neck. Reiner barely managed to duck and countered with a sweeping leg kick, but Tang An anticipated the move, jumping and bringing down another slash.
Reiner raised his right arm, which was covered in armor and encased in crystal-like material. Reiner could also use hardening, a skill not exclusive to the Female, Attack, and Beast Titans. It seemed all nine intelligent Titans possessed this ability.
As the kukri knife clashed with Reiner’s armored hardening, sparks flew, and blood spurted as the knife broke through the defense, cutting deep into Reiner’s arm, nearly severing it.
“Damn it!” Reiner snarled, kicking at Tang An with tremendous force.
The ground shattered under the impact, but the Female Titan’s agility outclassed the Armored Titan’s. Tang An dodged and slashed at Reiner’s neck with his left hand.
Reiner desperately dove to the ground, but as he did, Tang An’s right foot struck his abdomen, cracking his armored chest and sending him flying. Tang An’s right leg broke from the force, hanging by threads of muscle and tissue. However, vibrant multicolored threads began rapidly stitching the leg back together.
Within about thirty seconds, Tang An’s leg was fully healed. He stomped it to test its strength before striding towards Reiner, who was struggling to stand.
Steam poured from Reiner’s wounds, but his healing was slow, indicating he was nearly exhausted. Another slash forced Reiner to dodge, and a backkick sent him sprawling.
Repeatedly, Reiner tried to get up, only to be struck down.
Eventually, he could no longer rise.
Tang An cleaved Reiner’s armored head in half with one final slash. Reiner’s scream was drowned in steam and blood.
“An… Tang An,” Reiner gasped as Tang An dragged him out. The giant jaws loomed closer, teeth like daggers glinting ominously.
“No… no…” Reiner’s scream was cut short as he was devoured.
After consuming Reiner, a cloud of steam enveloped the Female Titan. Tang An tore through the flesh at the nape and climbed out. Standing on the titan’s shoulder, he saw mindless Titans closing in. He used Moonwalk to leap into the air and headed towards the forest.
After about twenty minutes, Tang An sat on a branch, chest heaving, trying to catch his breath. He had expended much energy, not from the battle but from continuously using Moonwalk.
But the exhaustion was worth it; he had gained the powers of the Armored and Colossal Titans.
Opening the interface, he saw the messages:
“Successfully killed Reiner Braun, major antagonist of Attack on Titan. Reward: 3 dice rolls. Successfully killed Bertholdt Hoover, minor antagonist of Attack on Titan. Reward: 1 dice roll.”
Tang An frowned at the notifications.
“Since Reiner is a major antagonist, shouldn’t I have received +1 to luck? Why do important side characters get it but not major antagonists? And what about Ymir, the Jaw Titan? Not even a minor character or antagonist?”
Tang An knew questioning the interface was pointless. It never responded to his complaints.
He suspected the difference between primary and minor characters or antagonists was based on screen time and relevance to the story.
Reiner, for instance, had significant screen time and a deep connection to Eren, the protagonist. Hence, he was a primary antagonist, while Bertholdt was only a minor one. Ymir, despite being the Jaw Titan, wasn’t considered significant enough.
The luck value was crucial. His previous 23 rolls had shown that items obtained with luck were generally valuable and helpful, like the random world travel, Soru, senzu beans, and the battle BGM. Without luck, the items were often mundane or came with penalties.
Tang An knew that more rolls didn’t always mean better rewards. It was the luck that made a difference. More rolls could even mean more chances for penalties, like when his cancer advanced to the terminal stage.
Despite this, he had sometimes been lucky without using the luck value, like when he got Moonwalk and the diamond kukri knives.
“Let’s begin,” Tang An said, starting his first roll. The plane jumped three spaces.
“Black toothpaste.”
“Description: Made with natural mint and unique natural fragrance formula…”
Tang An quickly moved on to the second roll, not wanting to read further. The plane moved one space.
“Yellow flip-flops.”
“Description: Represents fashion, freedom, liveliness, and happiness. Popular among young people. Can auto-repair and switch on demand.”
The flip-flops were a small consolation, especially with their auto-repair and switch feature.
Tang An replaced his worn boots with the flip-flops, which fit perfectly. Testing their durability with his knife, he saw they repaired themselves instantly.
Feeling a bit better, Tang An rolled a third time. The plane moved six spaces.
“Green beach shorts.”
“Description: Feel the touch of the sea, the taste of freedom! Can auto-repair and switch on demand.”
Tang An’s mood darkened. The color was too bright, and he didn’t like green.
He rolled a fourth time. The plane moved two spaces.
“White T-shirt.”
“Description: Short-sleeved, with a globe print on the chest. Good fit, shows off physique, elastic. Can auto-repair and switch on demand.”
Looking at the T-shirt, Tang An felt the four rolls had been wasted.
Black toothpaste, flip-flops, beach shorts, and a T-shirt – all things one might take to the beach. None had any unique attributes other than auto-repair and switching.
After calming down, Tang An closed the interface and began to study his new Titan powers.
