Summoner of the Fairy Tail - Chapter 268
“Dragon Force…” Calvin murmured.
He had read about this power in the guild’s library. It was said to be a hidden force within Dragon Slayer mages, only accessible through rigorous training. This power, as its name suggested, was truly the power of dragons.
Sting and Rogue, claiming to be third-generation Dragon Slayers, not only were taught by dragons but also had Dragon Lacrima embedded within their bodies. Although Calvin didn’t believe these two could slay dragons, he didn’t doubt their possession of Dragon Lacrima.
“So this is the power of third-generation Dragon Slayers? It’s strong, but it doesn’t quite match the legends,” Calvin mused quietly. However, Natsu, also a Dragon Slayer, could feel the immense strength of Dragon Force.
Despite this, he didn’t believe he would lose; his fighting spirit remained as fiery as ever.
Suddenly, Sting launched an attack without warning—though he didn’t need to announce it since they were already in the midst of battle.
A flash of white light streaked across the sky like a meteor, and Sting appeared before Natsu, throwing a punch. Natsu barely managed to raise his arms in defense.
However, in Dragon Force, Sting’s movements were entirely different. He was like a transformed person—his punches were powerful, his movements swift and precise. The roles were reversed; Natsu was now on the defensive, being pummeled without a chance to retaliate.
Rogue wasn’t idle either. Following Sting’s lead by mere fractions of a second, he targeted Calvin.
Rogue, no longer hiding in shadows, realized that such tricks were useless. Calvin could always predict his moves, and now, with his power amplified, he was even more conspicuous.
But that didn’t matter. With Dragon Force, his attack power had increased immensely, and his speed was now truly fearsome—a ghostly presence on the battlefield.
Calvin remained motionless, intently observing Natsu and Sting’s battle. But Rogue couldn’t get close; he was engaged in a fierce duel with Marco.
From a bird’s eye view, the battlefield was a chaotic dance of shadows and blue flames, with sounds of impact echoing constantly. Explosions of black and blue energy created a dazzling spectacle.
The intense battle roused the spectators, filling them with excitement. Rogue, however, felt a mix of shock and frustration. Despite giving his all, the summoned beast fought him effortlessly, seemingly toying with him.
Calvin, meanwhile, seemed uninterested in Rogue, calmly watching the other fight. This indifference was disheartening.
Calvin was deep in thought.
From future Lucy, he learned that this fight was the catalyst for her being drawn into the Eclipse Plan. Sting’s powerful attack had shattered the ground, revealing hidden spaces beneath. He sensed something unusual and, with his companions, ventured into the depths, eventually meeting Arcadios, the White Knight.
To prevent Lucy from meeting Arcadios, Calvin initially planned to stop their encounter entirely, hoping to sever the possibility of that future. However, he reconsidered. Arcadios was determined to involve Lucy, and they would inevitably come for her. Why not use this opportunity to thwart his absurd plan?
Additionally, this was a rare moment when Arcadios would be unprepared. Even Calvin didn’t fancy the idea of storming the castle with the Eclipse Gate inside, which could absorb magic power.
Just as he reached this conclusion, Sting used a move called “Holy Breath of the White Dragon” to break the ground. Natsu fell into the resulting pit, and Sting jumped in after him, continuing their battle.
Calvin shifted his focus back to Rogue.
Marco continued to toy with Rogue, easily keeping him at bay and occasionally inflicting minor injuries. While the blue flames didn’t burn, Marco’s punches were far from negligible.
Every kick and punch felt like a hammer blow to Rogue. If not for Dragon Force boosting his defense to an extraordinary level, he would have already collapsed.
In contrast, Rogue’s attacks barely scratched Marco, and any marks left were quickly healed by the blue flames.
Fighting such an opponent was infuriating.
When Calvin finally turned his attention to him, it became even more frustrating.
Although Calvin still didn’t move, Marco seemed to get serious. In mere seconds, Rogue found himself unable to keep up with Marco’s movements, overwhelmed by his strength. Within seconds, Rogue was pummeled into the ground, unable to continue fighting.
At the same time, Sting had the upper hand against Natsu in the pit, standing tall with his right hand raised, bathed in the pit’s light like a victorious lion.
Calvin walked to the edge of the pit, looking down thoughtfully without a word.
Sting looked up at Calvin, smiling bitterly at seeing him unscathed.
“You guys are indeed powerful. I barely won against Natsu, but Rogue couldn’t even leave a mark on you, could he?”
“Won against Natsu? What makes you think that? Look at your opponent again, White Dragon,” Calvin mocked. Sting quickly turned to see Natsu standing up once more.
“That hurt, but it was a good hit,” Natsu said, still spirited despite looking a bit disheveled.
“Impossible! I used Dragon Force!” Sting shouted in panic.
“It surprised me at first, but now I’ve seen through your habits. Your attack timing, defensive posture, even your breathing rhythm,” Natsu said, cracking his neck and stretching, emitting snapping sounds.
“Round two begins now,” Natsu taunted, motioning for Sting to come at him.
“Dammit! Dragon Force is supposed to be equal to a dragon’s power! There can’t be anything stronger!” Sting roared, glowing with white light as he charged at Natsu again.
Calvin continued watching intently, thinking, “Dragon Force, huh? Interesting power. Worth studying…”
