Summoner of the Fairy Tail - Chapter 270
After the match ended, the arena became quiet and lonely under the sunset. It was hard to imagine that just a short while ago, nearly ten thousand people had been cheering there. Now, only the unrepaired crater remained, a testament to the intense battle that had taken place.
In this deserted arena, a group of people headed towards the large crater.
They were Calvin, three Dragon Slayer mages, the three Exceeds who always accompanied the Dragon Slayers, and Lucy and Gray, who had come along out of curiosity.
Calvin led the group as they jumped into the crater and moved deeper into the cave. After a few steps, an impatient member of the group couldn’t hold back any longer and spoke up.
“Where exactly are you taking us? At least explain a bit,” Natsu said, clearly annoyed.
“And why is it just us? Does it have something to do with Dragon Slayers?” Gajeel asked, more patient but equally curious. Only Wendy, ever the obedient one, quietly followed without asking questions.
“Yes, it does have something to do with Dragon Slayers, specifically you three who were taught by dragons,” Calvin said, keeping a straight face.
“Is it… news about the dragons?” Lucy, quick-witted, immediately made the connection, her eyes filled with curiosity. Upon hearing this, the three Dragon Slayers’ eyes lit up, their expressions becoming eager.
Their greatest wish had always been to find their parents, the dragons.
Calvin glanced at Lucy, a mysterious look in his eyes. He nodded, then shook his head.
“It is related to dragons, but it has nothing to do with the dragons you know. You’ll understand when we get there.”
“So secretive, and why do you know about this place?” Lucy asked, puzzled.
“When Sting broke through the ground earlier, I immediately sensed some lingering energy. This energy felt somewhat similar to that of Dragon Slayers. I secretly sent a small summon inside to explore and discovered a shocking scene,” Calvin explained calmly.
“I’m glad I followed then if it’s something that even you find shocking,” Gray said, surprised.
Of course, Calvin was making this all up. He had known about the cave’s contents from future Lucy. While he could indeed sense some energy, claiming it was similar to that of Dragon Slayers was nonsense.
The cave was a dragon graveyard, filled with the remains of dragons that had died long ago. Even with heightened senses, he couldn’t have pinpointed dragon energy so precisely.
In the timeline of future Lucy, Calvin had just felt something unusual. Natsu had insisted on exploring after learning about it.
The group continued, passing through a narrow and long corridor until they reached a vast open space filled with giant bones. The Dragon Slayers immediately recognized these as dragon bones.
Even Calvin, who already knew it was a dragon graveyard, was awed by the sight. Hearing about it and seeing it firsthand were two different experiences. However, he maintained a calm demeanor and said nonchalantly,
“As you can see, this is a dragon graveyard. Your dragons disappeared only fourteen years ago, while these dragons have been resting here for an unknown amount of time,” Calvin explained.
“No wonder you were sure it had nothing to do with Igneel. But what happened here? Why are there so many dragon bones?” Natsu asked, his tone heavy.
Everyone was puzzled by the ancient scene until Wendy had a flash of inspiration. She suggested using the Dragon Slayer technique “Milky Way,” taught by Porlyusica, which might communicate with the souls of the deceased dragons.
Without hesitation, Wendy drew a magic circle on the ground and began chanting.
Soon, starlight shone above Wendy’s head, shaking the dragon bones. This continued for a while until Wendy found a lingering, faint dragon soul in the area.
A moment later, the light converged in front of Wendy, forming a ghostly image of a dragon with emerald scales and twin horns.
The Emerald Dragon introduced itself as Zirconia, a dragon known for its bad jokes. Zirconia recounted the events of 400 years ago, revealing the startling truth that Acnologia had once been human and that all the dragons here were killed by him.
However, after revealing this information, Zirconis’s soul dissipated, passing on.
Calvin already knew these details but acted as if he was hearing them for the first time. The three Dragon Slayers, however, were deeply troubled, learning that Dragon Slayers could potentially turn into dragons was terrifying.
At that moment, a strange voice spoke up.
“That’s impossible. Acnologia is the only exception.”
“You’ve been hiding for so long, and now you finally show yourself? Who are you?” Calvin demanded, his tone serious. He knew who it was but played along for the sake of appearance.
“Allow me to introduce myself. I am Arcadios, the Captain of the Cherry Blossom Holy Knights of Fiore.”
“And I am Yukino Aguria, a temporary Sergeant of the same order,” said a short-haired white-haired woman beside him.
“I see. Now, continue with your explanation. What do you mean by Acnologia being the only exception?” Calvin continued his act, while the others remained silent, letting him take the lead.
Arcadios took a deep breath, organizing his thoughts before speaking slowly.
“We heard everything the dragon soul said, and it aligns with our historical research.”
“Have you heard of Zeref’s demons?”
“Demons created by Zeref, right?” Calvin replied.
“Correct. Acnologia is something similar. According to our research, Zeref transformed a Dragon Slayer into Acnologia. Thus, the first step to defeating Acnologia is to take down Zeref, the mastermind behind it all.”
Everyone was stunned by this revelation, except Calvin.
“Defeating Zeref won’t be any easier than Acnologia,” Calvin said calmly, though his eyes betrayed some uncertainty. This was part of his act.
“No one is more credible than you to say that. After learning about Acnologia and Zeref seven years ago, our kingdom began a secret plan,” Arcadios continued explaining.
“This plan requires the power of Celestial Spirit mages, which is why I enlisted Sergeant Yukino’s help.”
Natsu interrupted angrily, demanding an explanation for why they needed Celestial Spirit mages.
“Natsu, calm down and let him finish,” Calvin said coolly, though his eyes were cold and filled with killing intent. This wasn’t an act; he knew this man had tried to capture Lucy before.
Natsu grumbled but obeyed Calvin, knowing that no one was more reliable and composed.
“Calvin Marcaro, it seems I can’t get past you without involving Lucy. Follow me, and I’ll explain in detail,” Arcadios said, turning to leave, as if certain they would follow.
Yukino pleaded with Lucy, explaining that the plan’s success could eliminate both Zeref and Acnologia.
The prospect of a plan that could defeat both Zeref and Acnologia was tempting, and Arcadios’s calm demeanor wasn’t without reason. Everyone except Calvin seemed willing to follow.
“None of us will go with you. Explain everything here, and we’ll decide our course of action based on what you say,” Calvin’s cold words halted everyone’s movements. For Fairy Tail members, Calvin’s words carried even more weight than Ezra’s.
Arcadios, surprised, turned back to see Calvin’s serious expression and sighed.
“You’re very cautious. Although I’d prefer to show you personally, I can explain it here if you insist.”
